Here goes. Enjoy - Katrina tells me it's on Mick's band site anyway,
if you've been there today but if not, well, it's here too.

DIARY OF A BAND
27th October 1999
Stuart Murdoch passes the baton on to Chris Geddes for the next Belle and
Sebastian diary

Being a Guardian columnist has afforded me a lifestyle I could previously
only have dreamed of. After my first one was published, my friend Andrew
Divine and myself were invited to DJ at the London girl-group night Da Doo
Ron Ron. The night went pretty well, if you'll pardon my unchecked egotism,
even though Andrew wouldn't let me play the Roxanne Shante record I had with
me. It was probably fair enough. Most folk there were pretty 60's doing that
London mod dancing. We dragged them right up to date though, with a set
ranging from 60's female soul right through to 70's female soul. Somehow
they kept the roof on, but the night was livened up with the presence of a
fair Glasgow contingent. Among them was Stevie Jackson who along with
Richard had been at an awards dinner the previous night. Also at the dinner
was living legend Ronnie Wood. Woody was allegedly too inebriated to speak,
so Stevie, ever the gent, gave him a glass of champagne as he was leaving. A
typical evening for both of them, obviously.

I briefly attempted record shopping this afternoon, but my head was too sore
to do much so I went for the train to see my parents. Mum is going to Canada
with her sister to visit their other sister at the weekend. I've not been
down here since Christmas so I thought I'd come through to see her and Dad
before she goes.

The upshot of all this jet-setting about is that this time the deadline
catches up with me in Essex. It's not all glamour, though; I missed the
'History of Pornography' to write this. Anyway, I'm going to have to submit
this by electronic means which is quite a leap forward considering I walked
into the office with the last one scrawled on a reporter's notebook. Times
change fast.
