Sinister: looper: london

looper played an instore at the virgin megastore this evening. it was
ok, i guess, spoilt by the waiting and techno pagan octopus messiah
bloke that went on before. 'doesn't it make you proud to be an
american?' he kept asking. but i'm not an american and neither was
anybody else in the crowd. a lot of them were japanese, some were
undoubtably scottish but i didn't see any americans. except him, on
stage, with the see through-shirt and the dastoordly looking orange
trousers, spouting crap about doing drugs. not big or clever. look what
happened to zammo.

looper played half a dozen songs, er, up a tree, burning flies, ray
suzuki, the one about the wee girl, a new one written on the american
tour, the one about him and karn meeting and 'who's afraid of y2k?'. i
think that's it. he also read a six minute chunk of his new book
beforehand, the bit about the bloke stealing leaves so that the winter
lady wouldn't know it was autumn. it made sense at the time but i'm not
sure if it'd stand up in any court.

afterwards he signed copies, he's probably still doing it now, but given
that he finished at something to 12 rather than something past 10, well,
i didn't hang around and will have to pester the bloke in books etc,
hammersmith for two copies tomorrow.

oh, and afterwards i saw trousers holding a girl's hand. sorry to have
to break this to all the ladies out there who had their eyes on him, the
list's most legible batchelor and all but there you go. i guess what
miller said about papercuts was true after all.

dum de dum, this was mentioned a while ago but i've not written anything
since someone brought it up but i will now. it may sound trite and all
that but i've felt better about death since reading neil gaiman's
Sandman.
