Sinister: Have a look round--it's Mr. Pound

Hello, dearlings.

For some reason, while out walking yesterday afternoon, I was reminded of a
shop in London called Mr. Pound. Does anyone know of it? Does it still
exist? I think there were several of them when I lived in that fine city a
few years back, but the one I was most familiar with was on or near Oxford
Street. My friend Chris and I stumbled upon it one day, drawn in by the
recording being blasted out onto the sidewalk: "We've got dustbins, sponges,
washing up soap, writing paper, toilet bowl scrubbers--all just a pound.
Come in on, have a look round--it's Mr. Pound."

We were amused to no end.

We have similar stores here in the US, but somehow they're much less fun.
They also tend not to have such, uh, emphatic marketing strategies.

San Francisco is turning to fall (as in Autumn, not the band), which is
actually sort of nice, as it means that I get to wear my new wool coat.
It's both funny and a touch disturbing that the month and a half of
summer-like weather we have out here has become sufficient for me, as I'm a
summer baby and used to be much fonder of hot weather.

I was in Zazie, a fab little restaurant, last Friday, and when the din of
the crowd died down, I heard Sinister on the stereo. SF listees, now you
have two reasons to eat here: because the food is yumlicious, and because
B&S seeps through the air. Mmmmmm.

My latest favorite Onion headline: Bill Bradley [US Presidential Candidate]
Denies Being Into Spin Doctors in Early 90s. So damn funny. I wish I had
the same mordant wit as the people who write these things.

Right, then.

Reminding you of Johnny before he went electronic,
emily
