Sinister: Don't look back, like moz in the adverts

hello all my sins,
Tired of watching little white lines on my tv screen
due to poor vcr quality (read 1985 vcr quality) and
still only getting 13 channels on tv (read 1984 tv
set), I accidently went out and bought a new vcr on
the weekend with the money I don't have. But it was
worth it. Except that I watched tv straight for about
6 hours the day I bought the blessed vcr and ended up
having terrible nightmares (which I won't get into b/c
no dream analysis book in the world is gonna be able
to help me out.) I still can't believe there are over
60 channels on tv. I'm a little overwhelmed, having
not had cable for about 6 years and only flipping
around a little at friends' houses (no serious remote
control control.) And to top it off: that
how-soon-is-all-we-cherish-going-to-be-exploited-now
car commercial was on - and just who the hell is that
aimed at? Certainly not Smiths' listeners - who do you
know who wants to (never mind is able to) buy that
"luxary" automobile? But then maybe it is aimed at
fans who know that it is "how soon is now" and
understand the nuances of the song and rush out (like
really fast, like now now now) and buy the car.
Teenage nostalgia sells middle-aged commodity. Now,
would our feelings be different if it were an ad for a
gen-xy volkswagon? Um, no, not me. I am in the used
bicycle price range. My "one less car" bike sticker is
just an environmentalist front for my poverty.
Now that no one's listening anymore I will actually
talk about B&S. I was in Zulu, a record store here,
and they were playing the Bowlie live cd and I
couldn't leave the store, all mesmerized and what. The
thing is, I didn't buy it, I have no idea why. Perhaps
in too much shock.
This was all before my b&s gear arrived in the mail
the other day! Joy! A stow t-shirt, badges and tijamrs
cd. Take that credit card! I am happy. I will have to
alter the neck of the shirt though into a v-neck b/c
it is way too high and confining. It's doable (gulp. I
think it's best to hand over to the mum for that
delicate operation.) Very happy that the rest fits
well though. Also, played the cd all day at work (yaay
for cd rom drives and computer speaker systems!)
Well, looking forward to Mogwai in mid-Sept, and,
though it's geeky, I will be wearing earplugs as
wearing them makes a world of difference and you can
actually hear things *better* (during and after). I
think I'm on the cusp of tinitis as it is...
Places named after people: I have my own refridgerated
trucking company called Robyn's. It used to be Robyn's
Reefer Service (in bright red on white trucks), but
maybe too many people laughed, this being the west
coast and all. But it gave me a good rep for a
while...
Have a lovely weekend all,
Robyn
