Sinister: part 2

Did I forget to mention there was a part 2 to my post of last evening? I
guess that was intentional.

Yesterday there was yet another high school shooting. This time it was
in Toronto. Some of the people on the list are from Toronto, I myself
live close to it. Luckily nobody was killed this time, but for sure
there have been far too many of these in the last year. Although a
motive was not given, in the other shootings the reason they took place
were because the shooters had felt that the victims had treated them
poorly, or they had been made feel that they didn't matter. Although
this does not excuse the behaviour of the people who have done the
shooting in these cases, I do think we should stand back and take a look
at the world.

The purpose of my post last night was to make you react. For some of you
it did work. Albeit it was the sledge hammer approach, sometimes that is
necessary. Everybody is guilty of thoughtless behaviour at some time or
another, and I do include myself in that. Last night it appeared as
though I was calling you all selfish assholes, and that is exactly how
we are preceived at times by other people and we don't even realize it,
unfortunately our behaviour can sometimes result in getting ourselves
killed without ever really knowing why. Road rage, suicides, shootings,
and all kinds of other things happen and they always will, but it seems
as though they are happening with increasing frequency which is so sad.

Too many times people are quoted on the news as saying that they never
imagined such a thing happening in their town, but reality is that
anything can happen anywhere at anytime. Personally I have known 3
suicides, two murder victims, and a few people who have died in alcohol
related car accidents. I am sure that everybody has had their lives
touched by this type of thing so I am not talking about some vague
concept. For those who haven't, pray that you never do.

I am completely aware that I have pissed some people off. Others have
said that the world needs more compassion. Both responses are entirely
acceptable because they have you thinking about the subject but I hope
there isn't too much indifference. Sinister is a really good place with
really good people, and I love you all, I really hope some day that we
stop killing each other over this type of thing. Just as Rachel is
sometimes overwhelmed with the urge to flee, I get overwhelmed with my
own urges and I really don't want to see anyone sad this Valentine
because you all matter.

Okay, if you are still reading, then back to borking stuff. I am sorry
to hear that StuD is leaving, but he will still be involved in the
studio so he isn't completely gone and the door isn't completely closed
so he just might not wander too far.

My friend Lily who is a wonderful pianist is playing in Toronto this
weekend. she was Bridget Fonda's piano coach in some movie and saw her
and her boyfrined, some other actor, sneak away for sex on the set a
few times. She plays blues, so if you are into it, here's the
details....

Still here? May as well offer a recipe for the sini-cookbook. This is
the Shrimp Fettucine that people seem to like......

It is really easy to make and everyone seems to like it. The recipe is
for 2 people and I will give everything based on how I make it.

First you will need to start cooking the fettucine. Use a spaghetti
measuring thing to figure out for 3
people, or just take a big handful and throw it in the pot of boiling
water. Pour some olive oil in the pot
first I put enough so that the slick on the water is about 2 inches in
diameter, then stir it around in the water before putting the fettucine
in. (I use the fettucine to stir it, one less spoon to wash!)

When your fettucine is cooked, pour some olive oil in a pan and add two
cloves of chopped garlic. Then
throw 3/4 - 1 pound of shrimp (depends on how hungry you are, or how
much you like shrimp) into the
pan and sautée them. While the shrimp are cooking, put your futticine in
a large bowl and add a bit of
olive oil, some oregano, and a bit of basil. mix that around so that the
fettucine is evenly covered in the
green stuff. I would say that I use about a teaspoon and a half of
oreganon and half a teaspoon of basil, but I go by eye so it will be hit
and miss for you.

Just as the shrimp are almost done, (this is optional) you can throw a
large cubed tomatoe in with them.
Just keep the tomatoes in the pan long enough to get them warmed up.
Squirt the juice from half a
medium lemon over it now. (if you forget to buy a lemon, don't worry
because half the time I do too)

Put a big mess of your flaky green fettucine on a plate, then dump a big
mess of shrimp and tomatoe over top of it. Then sprinkle crumbled up
feta cheese over everything.

And voila, you have a really nice dinner that everyone seems to like.
Serve it with a fresh baguette and a nice white wine. I like Remy Panier
Blanc de France because it is inexpensive and it is very light.

For those who don't like shrimp, or if payday is a long way off, you can
make this with chicken just as
easily.

Have a happy weekend.

Alexander
