Sinister: depression, eh?

Before anyone else gets cross, let me just make myself clear:

I'm not denegrating people with depression. Read my post again. Jesus, enough
of my friends and family have suffered from it / are suffering from it for me
not to be so stupid. I was resenting the glamorisation of it, such as Zoe's
friend seem to be expressing.

>Depression is something i'm sure we've
>all experienced at some point in our lives

Err - I'm not sure you can really say this, but I suppose it comes down to
definitions.

I appreciate that the bit about wearing one's illness on one's sleeve might have
appeared inflamatory, but it wasn't actaully meant as a slight upon anyone. It
just occurred to me to make the (separate) point that even if an artist is
suffering from depression, it needn't necessarily be explicit in their work.
People may choose (or manage) to concern to shift the focus away from that.

Neither am I slagging off Nick Drake:

>that is wrong, but don't misjudge himself just
> because *some* people tend to do that.

Err - I didn't. I made no comment on Nick Drake's music at all, only on the
attitude that B&S aren't as important as him *because* he was a depressive.
Incidentally, I might be wrong about this, but I'm not sure he was
*manic*-depressive - people often attribute manic-depression to artists just
because they think it sounds more interesting. I think he was just a plain old
unipolar depressive!

For the record, I love his records to bits.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.

Friends?
