Sinister: Strange Meeting - Barcelona

I spoke to Mister Jordi on the phone last night. Some of us are supposed to
be meeting up tomorrow, Thursday, at 1 o' clock, outside Cafe Zurich or Bar
Zurich or whatever it's called. Some bloke called Annie's coming with her
mate and someone else and Mister Jordi. It's all a bit vague, but it would
be very nice if hundreds of people turned up, so come on down if you're that
way inclined and in the Barcelona area. Don't be shy, I can assure you that
you won't be as frightened as me, and I'm 32 years of age with a wife and
several houseplants to worry about. So that's where we'll be, outside the
Cafe Zurich. I might try and squeeze into my Study at Stow t-shirt, and will
be loitering Clouseau-like at the newspaper kiosk. It's going to be BLUDDY
GRATE, even if I'm on my own.

This morning I thought I'd sort this Floyd business out once and for all, so
I rummaged around and found my Floyd record, the first three singles. It's
BLUDDY GRATE, especially "See Emily Play". Three minutes of pop perfection
worthy of Nick Heywood in his heyday. "Wearing a gown that touches the
ground". Lovely. I confess that it brought a tear to my eye. Great
production too, especially the cello or double bass or whatever it is that
sort of takes things down a level every now and then. "Scarecrow" is good
too, suitable for Gentle Waves fans. Of course, this kind of Floyd stuff was
a big influence on the eighties indie scene, and therefore a big influence
on B&S. And Stereolab. My view is that when Syd went away, he took all the
personality with him. That's why later Floyd sounds dull, and also why so
many people like it so much. Once I'd run out of Floyd I had to seek out a
track from something called "Nick Mason's Fictional Sports" featuring Robert
Wyatt. It's terrible. Then I had to listen to The Orb. Much better. I like
the Floyd better than the Straits. I recommend Queen for grandiosity.

Quiz question: What have the Floyd got in common with the Kate Bush? I
enjoyed Kate Bush's appearance on the soundtrack of "Felicia's Journey",
really fitted in well, I thought.

So we're counting down to the Queen Mum's birthday, are we? Should be a real
cliffhanger, that should. Have Go-Kart Mozart been used on any TV tributes
yet?
