Now look here you winy twee bastards, the verdict is in and upon repeated
listen the new album stands up just fine. There simply is no "best" b+s
album. They are the rare band whose entire catalouge lives up to their
reputation. To be frank, every belle and sebastian album is rather boring
upon first listen. They are exceedingly subtle, and the quality of their work
doesn't become apparent until multiple listens. The non stuart murdoch
members are finally writing good songs and, while we'd all like more murdoch
numbers, it's a fine, and fairly successful, stab at democracy. I understand
that b+s fans tend to be the moody, meloncholy sort who are eternally
nostalgic for their treasured albums of the past, but let's face it, as soon
as another album comes out it will get the fyhcywlap treatment and this album
willl be bumped into the cannon of b+s classics. I suspect that this arab
strap is moving up in status as I speak. Go eat your tea and crumpets you
whiny brats, and enjoy the new album.
"i may very well be responsible, but i'll be damned if i'm going to take
responsibility."
