hello list :)
oooh, i had a temptation to join the discussion about kid a earlier on.
however, it's a list about b&s, not radiohead, so i didn't. let's just say
i'm glad the band has moved on and avoided recording the second ok computer.
now to the gist of the mail...
polish music press is rubbish. i don't even know why someone bothered to
write a review of fishyclap when:
a) the cd isn't on sale here anyway
b) all interested people have already got hold of the album and/or read tons
of reviews about it.
since someone did write it, though, i translated it and so here it is:
belle&sebastian - fold your hands child, you walk like a peasant. 3,5/5
----they're young and so boring, that it's worth seeing----
after the definite departure of stuart david (looper), belle&sebastian's
leader stuart murdoch has brought the situation under control. no more
electronic outings and experiments. with their 4th album, the group of
scottish friends comes back to the times when they were charming by
antiquated melodies, simple forms and delicate guitar sounds, enriched by
strings and soothing brass. having heard 'fold your hands...' once, though,
one already has a sense of an omnipresent deja vu: this spanish trumpet ('i
fought in a war'), these lazy piano keys ('the chalet lines'), these naive
duets ('women's realm')... belle&sebastian have grown old sooner than i
had expected. i forgive them, however, because they're boring in a way which
would make nick drake proud.
originally written by jacek hawryluk.
make out of it what you want, but i think the guy *did* like the album...
...and i'm off to school.
take care all :)
