Sinister: i found love on a two-way street

there was a fire in the elevator shaft
at work today. i was in the basement,
on the phone with my best friend up in
seattle, when i heard the alarm go off.
while debating whether or not i wanted
to follow the others in their single file
formation an announcement came over the
intercom system that said...

"please evacuate the building! there *is*
a fire on the premises. this is not a drill!"

flash to me on the sidewalk with all my
belongings, lost amid lights and ladders, and
firefolks rushing by with their crowbars and
hoses.

somewhere in the clammor, i notice this cute boy
on a razor scooter coming right towards me...and
he's wearing a 'gentle waves' t-shirt: the first
one i've seen. naturally, i stride right over,
through the smoke in my 'le tigre' t-shirt, but
when i got there, my vocab was bare, and all i
could say was...

"the gentle waves! you're a belle & sebastian fan!"

duh.
