Krispy Kreme doughnuts are the most overrated, mediocre donuts I've ever had. 
 Fifteen variations on the same glazed donut.  The only plus is that you can 
usually get them while they are warm.  I have a long standing loyalty to 
Winchell's I guess.  I live in California too and I just saw a TV commercial 
for Dunkin Donuts, but I can't remember seeing one around in ages.

As for American grocery stores with limited liquor/spirit aisles...I work at 
a grocery store and we have 4 aisle liquor department.  After this remodel 
planned for the beginning of the year, our liquor department will be twice 
that size.  Almost anything you want we have.  Although I have not seen Tia 
Maria anywhere or some kind of dark rum that someone wants from Canada.
