Hi Guys...
have any of you seen the article on page 16 of today's
daily record?
They are claiming that the free secret gig at Glasgow
Uni is a blatant attempt to win stuart Rectorial
votes.
OK... I suppose on face value it does look like
that...
BUT.. I'm not as cynical as these journalists...
think about it this way...
If you are a belle and sebastian fan who are you most
likely to vote for...?
I mean, OK like myself, you might feel swayed (I mean,
my fav. author is up for the post too) but If you are
a fan you are more than likely to vote for SM, free
gig or not.
Now, if you ARE NOT a B&S fan and you're not intending
to vote for him, you are hardly likely to think to
yourself...
Oh look, a free gig by a band I don't even like.. I
must get to that and then vote for their singer as he
was kind enough to set up a gig for us.
No, you wouldn't would you?...
thus...
The gig, while no doubt trying to secure the votes
that he has already won, is mainly a way to let B&S
play to a dedicated bunch of fans who don't get to see
them NEARLY enough!
The fact that it falls so near to the rectorial
campaign is incidental...
or is it...?
Maybe I'm just too naive...
just a thought..
Neil
