Sinister: Smoke lingers on the platform...

So I've not e-mailed this list for a while, but I now
live in a completely new city, and am feeling adrift,
and sometimes feel like a cog in a machine or like the
only living boy in New Cross (well, I don't live in
New Cross actually....or am a boy...oh, sod it, that's
the last time I reference Carter USM..)

So the day after London blows up I find out that I've
been offered a job in London, one that's tangientally
connected with the crazy world of Teletext. I have
nowhere to live, few friends left in Mancland and had
just been for an interview at a dodgy accountancy
college where I was asked only about my A-Levels and
whether I liked Rod Stewart. Oh, I love Manchester,
but like a childhood sweetheart sometimes you need to
move on to keep your fond memories. A train trip and
two 'borrowed' luggage trollies later, I MOVED TO
LONDON.

And now I'm here...well. Still not used to it really.
The first sunny month passed in a blur of bright bus
journeys soundtracked by Spearmint and Maximo Park, a
dalliance with an Aussie biker and being courted by a
vicar's son (I turned him down after realising that I
could never love a man who only listened to comedy
records), conversations about bad pop videos and
non-league football, and wondering how to make friends
without people running away in fear. It's hard, but
I'm hoping it'll turn out to be the best thing....

....but how strange to be living somewhere that I'd
never even visited until I was 16 - that for years
lived only in songs and films and books? I remember
listening to Blur's 'For Tomorrow' and not knowing
what 'but we're lost on the Westway' meant. Two days
after coming here I was sat on a bus going down it. 

Oh, but do you really think you've made the right
decision this time?
