Sinister: Friday's Brighton Gig

A quick de-lurk to report as requested.
Brighton Dome:
Stevie wore a mod suit and looked hip - I think he wanted to do some
sort of Buddy holly song at one point but the drummer was impatient with
him. Oh well, he had fun with the Strokes song 'Last Night' (they had a
'bigger' gig playing around the corner so you can imagine the jokes) and
as for his robotic dancing...
They didn't try 'We rule the school' this time, but I remember State and
Judy and *almost* 'Lazy Line Painter Jane' but alas "had no-one to sing
the girls part" Did anyone in the crowd know the part? Sure enough a
random girlfan stepped up, but it was seemingly just her 'get me onstage
ploy' though ;-) Stuart gave her a tambourine and she happily sang
backup on something I didn't recognise instead.
Stuart was charismatic and even gentle with 'shouter outers'
'we love you belle & sebastian' - 'thanks. We'll take all the love we
can get.'
'<random song name shrieked for the 3rd time>' - 'your request has been
noted. by the man backstage who notes everything.'
'Belle & Sebastian are the best band in the world!' - 'Not yet but we're
working on it. One country at a time. We've got Scotland...'
Stuart also endeared himself to all by leaving the stage while walking
the entire handrail to sing among the crowd.
This was the first time I've seen B&S live, not only were the songs
delivered with panache but they really come across as liking their
audience. It was a great night.
Best Wishes
Fiona
