So who fancies a pubnic before this Saturday's gig? The Melbourne Sinister Massive will be convening at the Portland Hotel on Russell St (between Little Collins and Bourke St) at around 3pm, if anyone's keen. There'll be shelter, warmth, food, drink (both alcoholic and non) and banter available on the day. There will also be some special guest SiniSTARs from sunny Auckland in attendance. And I'm totally going to bring my Uno cards with me, even though the missus almost certainly doesn't want me to. Regardless of whether you're a visitor to Melbourne, a long-lost friend, or previously-unearthed lurker, we'd love to see you there. Drop me a line (dhewitt at gmail.com) or just turn up on the day. Sorry to pester you again so soon, but in the organising of the Melbourne Sinister Pubnic, I've discovered that my second-best mate Jeremy (formerly of this parish) has a spare ticket for Saturday's show. If anyone fancies it, please drop me a line off-list (dhewitt at gmail.com), and I'll put you in touch with him. Come to the pubnic then come along to the gig - it'll be grand. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm officially excited. Australia making its first World Cup appearance in 32 years, and a Belle and Sebastian show off the back of their best work in what feels like almost as long. I've been lurking for a few months here (don't know what took me so long to look for a B&S list, I've loved them for about 7 years now). I was going to post about the two New York shows back in March but life kept me too busy to do so (they were fantastic and cemented my boyfriend becoming a convert to B&S). I'm Nancy, a librarian in the suburbs just north of New York City. (No, I don't have a bun and I try to keep shusshing to a minimum. Get that stereotype out of your head! *grin*) Anywho, the gist of this post is: can anyone in NYC drag along a friend on the 27th to score me two tickets for the July 4th show in Battery Park? I have to work that day. I was going to try to take a vacation day but looks like half of my small library's staff will be on vacation then already, so I can't even leave early *sigh* and being a 35 minute train ride outside the city I can't get anywhere in time to get tix that day. I was wondering if any listees are going that day to get tix and can drag along a friend who's not interested in the concert to get me two tickets? I would be eternally grateful. Please contact me off list at bonslivres at gmail.com. I've been watching their website, and waiting for their mailing list to announce details on how to get tickets for that show. What a huge disappointment when I checked the website today and found out there's no way I can get to the ticket locations on time. Thanks for listening to me whine. I've really been enjoying everyone's posts for the past few months and look forward to more. Hope you don't mind me popping in with a HDIF email. It's been an exciting few months for me - I've been working on a HDIF compilation and we get the actual finished CDs next Wednesday. Woo-hoo! It's all very scary and exciting. I've been dreaming about doing a record label forever, but now suddenly it's all happening and it's going to be real. I'm not entirely sure I'm in total control of it, but it's too late to stop now...! But before all that, there's this. We've very very pleased to announce that this Saturday, HDIF returns to the Phoenix on Cavendish Square in central London. Our guest DJ is Darren Hayman of Hefner fame. Darren turned in an excellent set last time he DJ-ed at HDIF, so we're really looking forward to this. As it's our first night back at the Phoenix and our first night on a Saturday, it's super important that we kick off with a bang. So please please please come along and support us in our new home. I'm sorry there's been so much upheaval over the last few months, but hopefully this will see us settled for good. The indie track of the week is: "If Looks Could Kill" by Camera Obscura The soul track of the week is: "Mississippi Delta" by Bobbie Gentry And please let me know what you'd like to hear. It's always better when I've got a load of excellent requests to boost my set...! Hope to see you on Saturday! Ian x --------- How Does It Feel To Be Loved? They're an absolutely great band with three great albums (Biggest Blue Hi-Fi, Underachievers Please Try Harder and Let's Get Out of This Country.) Their first album sounds like a more-guitar led (especially the last track) B&S - understandable perhaps, as Stuart Murdoch produced it and Richard did the drums. Underachievers was a more instrumentally diverse album, and it moved the band away from being a very B&S influenced band to one with their own sound. Their newest album, Let's Get Out is a great album which you should all purchase. If you can find the EPs as well, check those out, as they've got some great songs, like "Let's Go Bowling" or, "A Red, Red Rose". Seriously folks, check them out. They're got everything a B&S fan will enjoy; literate lyrics, chiming guitars and a lovely voice propelling it all. Oh, and hello! This is my first posting here. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: I wonder if I may be permitted to 'third' that emotion. Camera Obscura are a fantastic outfit with really really great songs. They feature the bewitching Carey on keyboards who is formerly of this parish. Or perhaps she's still here, in which case 'Hi!'. I bought 'Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken' and am playing it over and over again, which is something I rarely do these days. Brilliant, reassuringly familiar indie pop tunes, with enough sophistication to keep the discerning ear interested. And to bring it right back on topic, I saw them play in London some years back with a certain fey ginger songsmith acting as roadie... But, forgive me, dear ones. Forgive me. I was allowing memory to have the better of me. Geoff ___________________________________________________________ To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo! And kinda cheap :) As for this coming Tuesday's concert: a) let's pray for no rain (it's a bit too much like England here lately) and b) it'll be awesome.
