JE SUIS MUSIC PRESS RELEASE,JANUARY 1999. "200 TROUBLED TEENAGERS" When a Japanese tourist offered je suis MUSIC DJ Joe Egg £2000 for his copy of "Tigermilk", the legendary first album by Glaswegian recluses Belle and Sebastian, he knew the time was right to hold the first evening dedicated to the first group since The Smiths that really turned him on. Fellow devotees and je suis MUSIC DJs Nervous Stephen and Agent Mike will be joining Joe in co-hosting a special one-off night they're calling "200 Troubled Teenagers" at The Paradise Bar in New Cross, the home of their cult Sunday evening 20th Century Pop Music Club. The title comes from a Belle and Sebastian song called "Beautiful" which they'll be playing amongst a selection of the other 52 songs the mysterious eight piece group have released, including those which only featured on the aforementioned "Tigermilk" LP, of which only a thousand copies were pressed. And yes, despite the pleas of that rich Japanese tourist, Joe Egg does still have his copy , and he will be bringing it along to"200 Troubled Teenagers".[The Paradise Bar will be hiring extra security to guard this most precious piece of vinyl.] The evening will also be sound tracked by other "related" records; Nick Drake, The Pastels, Francoise Hardy, Stereolab, Nancy Sinatra, Morissey, Momus, Scott Walker, The Pale Fountains, Weekend, Saint Etienne, Sandie Shaw, early Pulp and others from the glorious je suis Music under-ground record library and trumpet duo MAJORCA will be performing live acoustic interpretations of songs made famous by Belle and Sebastian and other people. So if you want to know why Belle and Sebastian are the most important group since The Smiths, or you know already, "200 Troubled Teenagers" will be thickly felt penned in you exercise book diary. "200 TROUBLED TEENAGERS" - an evening dedicated to Belle and Sebastian, THURSDAY MARCH 11, from 9pm till 2am at The Paradise Bar,460 New Cross Road, London SE14.
