Yes! Patch, the dog on wheels from, urrrr, DOG ON WHEELS, is missing no more and can now be seen gracing the front cover of the new single from the 'dancey' band ( I say that cos I don't really know if its house/techno/garage whatever) Animals on Wheels . Anyway its on on Bovinyl records, I THINK its called Baits bite, haven't the faintest what its like but the cover caught my eye. He doesn't look too well though. Also, and this is rather embarassing to have to admit, but hey! I'm the only one who sees this right? I was shoppping in Sainsburys and seeing as its SUCH a cold winters day an' all I decided to buy some oats to make porridge with. Well, when I got to the checkout and the box of Scotts Porridge oats went through , I picked it up, saw the DRAWING of the man on the front in a kilt throwing a shotput and actually thought Phwwoaarrr!! But duke, don't be afraid of getting back to basics, what's wrong and right. MY pop can and will never include Stairway to bleedin' Heaven or Smoke on the Water. Let those who want to incorpaorate those moments find their own words for their macho, thoughtless unchallenging guff. Let them have rock, or whatever, if it makes them feel more manly. Because the joy of the self-making that pop allows is the ability to place yourself _against_ as well as (more than?) _for_. ---------------------- Stairway to Heaven and Smoke on the Water do not make me feel more *manly*, I just like them. I don't have a problem with this, indeed however I have a tendency not to like macho kinds of music, perhaps just have a different definition. I figure I'm just going to have a hard time bottling up all the types of music I like and calling it something - it's just not going to happen. Actually, that above stuff its just total toss, it's basically down to you don't like it and figure that you're right and others are wrong. Sinister: obscure, dodgy and downright shite...

on the dodgy record front... the first record I ever bought was 'Japanese boy' by annika (for my mum, bless...) closely followed by Spurs fa cup squad feat.chas 'n' dave with 'ossie's on his way to wembley'... my girlfriend reckons the first record she ever bought was a jam 7 inch, but I think she's showing off As for obscure, I once saw The Bardots supporting someone at the Harlow square, and was so impressed I went up to the lead singer and bought their 'Sad Anne' ep. He looked very chuffed, and then rather embarrased... I've also got lots of rare jazz/funk/soul from my dodgy days as a glasgow dj, including an album called 'poetry in the cellar' featuring lawrence ferlinghetti reciting poetry to cheesy jazz background music. nice. There are two mentions of B&S in the latest issue of Select: 1) 3,6,9 Seconds of Light is at number 10 in the Select writers' Top 30 Singles of 1997 2) In a section where people are asked what Oasis should do next, Colin Greenwood from Radiohead says "I'd like to see a Oasis/Belle & Sebastian collaboration. Oasis' sensitivity mixing with belle and Sebastian's full ahead rock. I'm sure it'd work beautifully." Rod. Anyone out there driving up the M1 past junction 14 to get to the Manchester gigs? Anyone want to give me a lift? And maybe a compadre of mine too? Didn't think so. Oh well. Did I read on one of the websites that they're touring in the new year? Or was that a dream I had? (Had a lovely dream last night, I imagined a pub where stella only cost 1.20) Oh, is 'Modern Rock Song' the songs full title? And does someone have a date for the Radcliffe sesh its on? record collector 147? i take it that's the december issue? i spent all friday reading, ingesting and digesting every advert / set sale / auction in there and only recall coming across Tigermilk once, and that was in a record shop's 'wanted' ad, i'm sure. as i remember, although this may be wrong, they were offering £65 for a mint condition copy. i'm afraid i don't recall coming across a copy for sale, although again i am probably very very wrong.
