Hello everyone i've been wanting to share my number one B&S mishearing for some time and now the time has come. Cast your minds back to the magnificent opening of Stars of Track and Field... "Paint a new coat everyday, to suit your affairs..." I used to think wow, what a great idea. I pictured somebody staring at an enormous wardobe thinking "hmm, which coat for today...badass pimp look, out-of-work-football manager, winsome Indy-kid, ooh and they could all do with a lick of paint..." I figured that was the way to have the girls lining up to kiss you at the back of the stairs all of them mad for your well-painted coat. At last I saw where I had been going wrong. i taped sinister for a friend and when i saw him the next time i asked him what his favorite song was. (i didn't put the names of the songs on his tape) so he had to sing it for me. this is what he sang: "me and the midget don't see eye to eye on it" and i said "it's major" and he just thought it was a funny song about being friends with a midget. -brad ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Sinister: On the sidelines again...

Just noticed on the inside of the Verve album today that "BIttersweet Symphony" is credited to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. This is hot on the heels of Allen Klein finding out that they used a sample from the Stones Orchestral version by Andrew Loog Oldham. Does anyone understand how Verve can lose their entire royalties on this point... Incidentally, it's not the main string motif that's the sample, it's much less obvious (so I'm told, I can't make it out myself). I mean, you appear to be able to make money out of doing a cover version, and when they do a completely different song with a small snatch of a weird stones cover version in itself they receive no money. Fuck... Actually I've just noticed, the credits say: Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards Performed by the Andrew Loog Oldham orchestra Is somebody taking the piss here?! Big apologies for the lack of Belle and Sebastian content.. just thought some of the people on the list might be interested. Apologies also for apologising for the lack of B+S content. Sinister: Re: B'n'S chords

Just forgot yesterday, if anybody's interested, the chords for "Stars of Track and Field" at the chord site are correct BUT they are played with a capo on 2nd fret, so the verse opens with open A, the chorus is open E and Em, etc. I think its unusual for B'n'S in using so many open chords. Here's a good one......It's of me and Tony on our first "proper" date. We went to the beach. Here we are by some rocks, in the sun. I look kind of funny cause i'm wearing my yellow, star-shaped sunglasses...He makes me feel like a superstar. All the birds were fighting over my chips, but I gave the most to this little brown one. I don't think he could fight too well. I didn't draw in the dumb people to our left. I was pretending they weren't there. Tony's feeding me cherries. Sinister: Tigermilk again and again.

It is now really difficult for me not to think of Belle and Sebastian as my favorite band now that i have lived with Tigermilk for a week. I have a couple of comments about it... First of all, has anyone noticed that the beginning of She's Just a Baby is right from the beginning of Yes' Yours is no Disgrace? Funny, eh? The melodies on Tigermilk are really intensely memorable and wonderful. Does this now replace Phil Ochs' PLEASURES OF THE HARBOR as the best out of print album? hmmmm. I also wanted to add that if B&S do sign with Matador, that is good news for all of us, considering how many records Matador lets Guided by Voices put out per year. B&S will be able to be as prolific as they want. And on an unrelated note, very excited about the coming month of concerts I am going to see: Suzanne Vega, Billy Bragg, Seely, Moloko, Stereolab and Maceo parker all in the coming month! matrix ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Flicking through radio channels as I sit on the train into college this morning and what do I come across? Something that sounds very Belle'n'Sebish... Sinister: Scottish Accents

I too like Scottish accents. Especially Isobel's on A Century Of Elvis.... It is a very nice accent, but it's that of Stuart David and not Isobel. For fans of the Glaswegian spoken word, can I tell everyone that the original Glasgow dreamer, Ivor Cutler, will be reading from his new book 'A Wet Handle' at my place of work, the Poetry Society in Covent Garden, on October 8th at 7pm.
