yay, it's a tori amos reference! anyone want to disembowel me on the spot? i'm waiting....*tapping toes impatiently* Tori rocks my socks, dude. chickens get a taste of your meat, mmm good! well i'ts 6:30 pm on x-mas eve, and guess who has yet to buy ONE single gift. i'll probably be out late tonite cos the family (sic) will be over tomorrow. here goes a stiff instant orange cappucino for me. not to turn this into the radiohead list, but i must defend those boys, out of principle. i've seen them twice in concert and they rock!! thom and jonny are really nice, too. and whining is good, it makes me cry. i think his voice is lovely. nothing wrong with rocking, as long as you do it well. all been done before, just comes down to how well you rip off what's come before, and they add their own mentality. to me their music epitomizes(bigwordalert) a certain simultaneously modern, and yet timeless, sense of ennui, desperation, impotence and the struggle to remain individual in the face of conformizing mechanization (If those are even words...) and expresses those feelings as well as anything. I've felt that frustrationevery day of my life and "letdown" still crushes me to the verge of collapse. it's yummy emotion, tugging at the heartstrings, and it's purty, like the Gate. nuff said. now let's shut up about radiohead...and continue to canonize the members of b&s. (SARCASM!!!) i dont' know if anyone ever mentioned momus on this list before, but i saw an old tape of mine that has the French and Saunders show on it, and it had those two guys who sang and played keyboards, and i realized that's exactly what momus sounds like, EXACTLY like that singing guy. that's why i dont' like him, he's goofy as hell. AND i saw a clip of the show "Man about the House" on a program about sitcoms, it said that AWFUL "three's Company" show was based on man about the house. the guy on that show was no where near as repulsve as john ritter, though. and their apartment was much uglier, so it looked tons more enjoyable. does anyone know why american sitcoms constantly rip off british ones? i have never heard of a british ripoff of an american idea. but it seems like every american sitcom came from an english tv idea. things that make you go HMMMMM>..... petermiller, may i use your wonderful phrase "a beacon for the mentally unhinged" as the slogan of the wee world? i'm not really sure if that was meant as a compliment, but as it was funny, i dont' really care. all these hugs going around, and someone's going to catch something nasty, like boy cooties or girl germs. you better all wear thick anoraks and fuzzy gloves when doing your holiday loving. and you'll all catch whiny holiday depression from me, i hear it's dangerously communicable. now for your holiday cheer, i present for your despisement the introduction of a new society of wonder, that the gods wish to spread throughout the next millenium as a symbol of hope and bonhomie for the disparaged and disgusted masses. may i present to you, the stuart murdoch Shiny Apple Posse. FAQ Q: What is the S.A.P.?? A: An illustrious society united by the bonds of goodwill represented by an eccentric popstar's curious and mysterious boon. Q: Aren't you afraid of being called "sappy saps"?? A: no. Sappiness is a badge of honor. Q: Is it sanctioned by Stuart M.? cos if it's not, i'm gonna tell and you'll get sued big-time. A: While not officially endorsed by Mr. Murdoch, it must be remembered that he chose to grant the apple of his own free will. We're legally home-free. Hmm i just dreamed last night i was supposed to be on a flight to Munich and then to Italy, but i got scared and started crying to my mom i didn't want to go, and they were going to make us march in some stupid parade in Austin Texas, and i was bitching about that too. then i was walking around this museum dressed in a suit hta tmade me look naked, and i was trying to cover myself up. i kept trying to smile at this cute blond girl on a walkway above. then i was walking in a crazy funhouse neighborhood in the smithsonian. at one point i was taking a class in breeding chickens from this redneck guy, and he was making me lift up the legs of girl dogs to tell which sex they were, but the dog was just like a girl person and she smiled at me, and i felt sorry for her being in a breeding program, but i had to check her gender anyway. it was very humiliating. there was a movie about cutting off the heads of chickens. Hello all, Whats with all the pessimism. Here I sit in Iceland, which is a loevly nation when its not dark 23 fucking hours a day. Yes Im a bit pissed but who cares. Happy xmas to you all and try not to let shit get you down. Dear List, maybe some out there are feeling grumpy as people have been pointing out..but right now im just bursting of joy! tuesday was the last day of school for the holidays and it couldn't be anymore perfect! (well actually 2 disastrous things happened..but who cares! problems happen..we must not dwell on things sweethearts,lets do like this on list as well) i went for my first class..physics where we got to eat lots of candy and then left and went shopping and then fun things in the bathroom with my dear pal. You mean,the rest of you DON'T rummage threw Belle and Sebastian's garbale? You SICKOS! *genevieve looks lovingly at the half eaten crusty ham-sandwhich that was once embraced by stuart david's lips resting on her bookshelf* When I get a moldy orange that was once touched by a member of Belle and Sebastian,I really FEEL like someone..not just a faceless fan.I feel they ARE a part of me now,and that I have control over their souls. anyways,I hope you all have a most wonderful Christmas..I always love Christmas Eve best...the sheer anticpation! hot chocolate and cats snuggled up wearing big red velvet ribbons and fire places and procelain christmas dolls and stockings and christmas cookies and beautifully wrapped presents..the wonderful before moment! mmmm yum! yum yum! i could just eat the moment,it's so good! to top it all off it's SNOWING right now...not wimpy flakes..big lustrous heavy cottony ones that make you feel like you're floating when you stare up straight! and there were even some gorgeous does out earlier...but it doesn't matter,where ever you are,whatever...lots of love! hello. i just read this poem and i thought i would share it with you all in this holiday season. :) it is by the fantasy writer Neil Gaiman. Nicholas Was... older than sin, and his beard could grow no whiter. He wanted to die. Sinister: RE: where's all the holiday cheer gone?

I'd like to second your notion alexandra, I haven't been keeping up with posts lately, but, I would definitely like to say that I have met some very, very nice people on this list and I'm glad you brought up the fact that we all have a connection (something in common)... not that it doesn't have particularly nothing per se to do with belle and seb, but, it's nice to know that we have a common meeting ground! I just wanted to say merry christmas to everyone around the world who writes in and I hope that you all have sugar sweet sugar plum faeries jumping around your beautiful heads this 'eve! And as for Sandra passing out at our party... she did a fantastic job of cooking (a killer white bean dip!) and being a wonderful hostess when everyone arrived... tree trimming was a wonderful idea for a party, because this year i don't think either of us could have afforded to even decorate our tree otherwise (not that it REALLY matters)... but now, every time I look at our tree, (with some of the most thoughtful ornaments, homemade and otherwise) I see all the love that all our friends brought to our house that night (we even have a picture with like thirty people in front of the tree!) and I think that I hope everyone else is having such a good time at that moment as well! does this make sense? I hope so! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday! Sinister: i have the city sickness

this morning the snow didn't look real. my mom looked out the window and began talking about the pollution and whatnot, but when i got up to look, i understood what it was. the snow was falling over the rising sun, which made it look like tiny crystals falling from the sky. like someone was standing on top of the building in which i live and grating silver. the beginning of the snow queen is so beautiful, the part about the mirror. the elves, or maybe goblins, some creatures who lived above the earth had a mirror that could look at anything, no matter how beautiful and reflect it as something ugly and evil. this mirror was dashed to thousands of pieces which fell to earth. many were lost in the snow, but occasionally a minute shard would lodge in someone's eye. he or she would feel a tiny prick and then nothing, and nothing would be visible as it was so minute. but it would be there, and as time went on, it would make things slowly turn ugly and evil, and make the bearer unable to see the beauty in the world. it looked like these shards were falling this morning. it must have been beautiful when that mirror broke. it happened over scandanavia, so swedes beware. merry christmas, to those of you who celebrate the holiday. xox megan +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: where's all the holiday cheer gone?

Christmas eve all over the world and I keep wondering why we bother when so many people are grumpy. I've been wondering that as I watch all the shoppers shove each other away to get at that last sparkly swizzle stick they don't really need but just want. I've really been wondering that as certain listees seem to slam (yes, I'm exaggerating!) certain other listees for no apparent reason other than to post something clever, funny or sarcastic depending on their mood or personality. Who am I to say anything about it? I don't know you guys (well, some I do, and those I really like). All I know is that there are a helluva lot of people out there who have more in common than they realize, and it's not just the we adore Belle&Sebastian frenzy. I keep thinking about Lesley Jo who's feeling bad for doing exactly what everyone else on this list seems to enjoy doing, i.e. expressing their thoughts and opinions. Maybe some sugarcoat it in sweet little images/polaroids, others have a verbal wit and verve you can only envy and some just say it straight from the heart, I hope. And then this morning as I'm getting excited about leaving work for a holiday in Toulouse, I see my own words come back at me and I'm briefly perplexed: Alexandra wrote : I might be if I wasn't nursing a red wine hangover from a tree trimming party we threw last night for all of our friends. Someone wrote: Is it just me or is this just the most piss-poor excuse for a party in the world ever ? Tree-trimming ?? I don't need an excuse to party....I ROCK. I also own three radiohead albums. Oh right, cute, I think. So you rock. Maybe I pop. What's the difference? And I doubt there is a single piss poor thing about throwing a party for all your friends who end up having a good time, irregardless of one of the hosts passing out. A party's a party, man, and the world needs more of them. And for some weird reason, I think this has more to do with my comment about Radiohead's lyrics than tree trimming. So I do think it's just you. As for Radiohead, I own all their albums, I like some of their music, I've even partied with Tim and Colin a few times, but I don't think they are god's gift to the modern rock world. Gimme The Piper at the Gates of Dawn or Loveless or Sgt. Peppers or Harvest or IYFS or anything by Nick Drake, and then we'll talk about gifts. So on this setting the record straight note, all you sinisterines, party til you pass out, have a wonderful Xmas and New Year. I'm unsubscribing for the holidays. I have looked it up in the dictionary, because that's the kind of tedious buffoon I am, and this is what I found: Pop - 1862. Colloq. abbrev. of popular concert Heavens to Betsy! What fools we have made of ourselves! In Spanish it means music derived from black musical styles and British folklore music, which narrows it down quite a lot if you think about it. Anyway, I'm going to opt for "popular concert" and I urge you all to do the same. It makes sense for "Top of the Pops" at any rate, the upper reaches of popular concerts - spot on! Here's another definition: Pop singers, pop groups - those whose records sell in large numbers and who are most popular on radio, TV and in discotheques Top of the pops - disc, etc which (calculated by sales) is most popular during a given period of time. What utter poppycock! More pop pondering is required. Keiths are notriously irreplaceable in pop circles. Imagine the Stones without Keith, and reel back in horror at the sight of The WHO without Moon the Loon. Not to mention the obvious decline in Mike Batt's Wombles after Keith Emerson left to pursue a solo career with Emerson Lake and Palmer. So it comes as no surprise that I find myself pining for our own Keith Watson. Keith, it's gonna be a blue blue Christmas without you, Big Tackle. This morning I stroked a donkey and a baby cow. Beat that, popular concert pickers! And while we're on the subject, don't despair if you fail miserably to get a Christmas snog, New Year's Eve is just around the corner, and everyone gets a snog then, regardless of physical repulsiveness. Sinister: slip it in, miss ponsomby

Right - post champagne-on-Xmas-eve thoughts for everyone. 1. Love to honey. It's not the same without him around - I can't help feeling he's given up on us. For those of you who actually still have love and soppy thoughts about the Sinister Mailing List, we owe it to both him and ourselves to pull ourselves together after the season of goodwill has shone its beacon of, erm, goodwill on us. It's been all squabbling and depression lately, and that just won't do. I have never subscribed to any other lists, and I would never want to. Over the last eight months sinister has given me so much more than I could have hoped - oodles of genuine, lovely friends, days out, nights even more out, a gorgeous girlfriend and, most importantly, the most exciting, funny, moving and intelligent prose/poetry/stream of consciousness that I've ever had the privilege to be one tiny part of. I would be so chuffed if I met just one person into Belle and Sebastian at a party, on a train, whatever - having the opportunity to get to know 800 of you is something that I'm sure I'd miss like crazy if it ever went away. I think that's it really. I too am going to abuse the system just a tad and send my Xmas messages of love to all those fab people I've met and corresponded with during 1998 - it'd be silly to list names, but you know who you are, and you're all GORGEOUS. As are the rest of you, come to that. I'm writing this in my office at half past noon on the day before Xmas - I really should go home and deck my halls, matron.
