Oh dear I just took a gander at the Jeepster press release, and got and eyeful (or five pages, anyway) of "AAAAAAAA" Nevermind, I'm sure it's a problem with my computer.. Haha! loved your letter re: the fanclub, Leeann Which brings me back to this: Where are you all hiding sweetie darlings? There are obviously other listees in California (pronounced "cal-if-fore-NYE-aye" like in that on song of theirs... which one was it?) but I have never ever in real life run into anybody who has even heard of Belle and Sebastian? So where ARE y'all?? Hmmm I read somewhere that Mark Eitzel lives in my neighborhood...maybe I should track him down... sadly I don't think i'd recognize the man if I tripped over him "Don't Look Back" was very interesting, thought I admit I am such a poseur, having not even heard of the film before "Like Dylan in the movies". But that's alright, isn't it? If the band can influence people like me to seek out a film or what not.... or perhaps I really am just a saddoe... Lines from songs... oh some of my faves have already been used!! Like the line from "Beautiful" about being slightly mental. "Fill your head up with things you like" from Kenickie is a current favorite, also one from another of their songs which goes: "We don't have time to be sad!" enough from me, love tarabelle the parappa. OH!! I just remembered something actually relevent to the band!!! Whilst record shopping yesterday, I went into Reckless Records on Haight Street, and their #2 selling release for the week was "IYFS". way to go... we rule the school.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . in about three days, someone will write in and say something to the effect of "could we please lay off the p.e. stories please? this list is supposed to be about belle and sebastian". but until then, here's my p.e. story............ we had this coach named coach ford. he was about 60 years old and he liked to wear really short shorts. and his nutsac kept falling out whenever he walked or bent over or basically moved, so one day i laughed at him and told him we could all see his nuts and he sent me to get a paddling. so i walked around the school for a while and came back holding my ass going "ooooh" like i was in pain. and his nuts were still hanging out. that's my story. he also had this really old toyota something or other that a bunch of us would get together and tip over on special occasions. he'd get really pissed because he couldn't set it back up right on his own so he'd have to go and call other teachers to help him and he'd get all upset. and he called the bigger guys "big tackle" and the girls "catfish". i'm not sure about the catfish remark. -brad ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Sinister: the debilitating effects of chumbawamba

I have to admit after hearing the vitriolic, bile ridden invective towards new labour in the lyrics of chumbawankers last two singles i am now a dedicated hater of tony blair.My god that majestic line "he drinks a whiskey drink he drinks a cider drink................ with its will to power its sheer incitement of the underclass to rise up against its oppressors ,this band are truly magnificent .Also daniel nobacon(or brain) is soooooo controversial wearing a skirt .It just made me think about the loathesomeness of being a man.i am now going to cut my penis off.oh and that biting irony in amnesia like do you suffer from long term memory loss?.............i cant remember.......ha ha ha ha GEDDIT .Chumba.. should be severely spanked for their actions as they are contributing to the return of those anti christs the tories .It is just as well no one takes a blind bit of notice of chum until theyre drunk in the student union and sing the chorus of tubthumping..........................................anyway on a different point i would like to have a rather heated debate with all you manic fans ..................sell out anybody?.......... cormac rafferty(NOT EIMEIR MC CARTAN) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . So I was left with a pile of Imagination and Police LPs that none of the secondhand shops in Nottingham were willing to take off my hands. There is a moral to this story somewhere. The Flashing Blade had an even better theme tune. Occasionally they showed that Jerry Lewis film where he plays the part of an alien who can't kiss anybody without his nose bending. No wonder the French consider him a genius . My lamp has broken. Is that a good enough excuse to sit here spouting shite instead of working? on the bizarre recent thread of psychopathic p.e. teachers i had one when i was seven who refused to believe i couldn't swim. was convinced it was a wee fib and so promptly picked me up by my arms, pulled me along the pool to teh deep end and promptly discarded me into the deep end. it was only when i singularly failed to resurface that he thought better of his cynicism and leapt in to save me. i would save his embarrassment and not reveal his name. i'm not usually a vindictive sort, but what the hell - he deserves it! mr ewing. american chap. terrible mullett and moustache. avoid the man. though i tend to have kept quiet on this list, due to workloads and stresses, you are still teh most singularly entertaining and interesting people i have met for a long long time. all of you. thanks for making my life less dull! see ya chris "i get by, got a lot on my mind i get by, got allotments on my mind" half man half biscuit - turned up, clocked on, laid off ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Greetings people There was no sign of the weekly poem on the list yesterday, so I thought I'd post this lovely cummings creation - not strictly b&s content I know, but it's a wonderful poem nonetheless, and I know quite a few of you on the list are partial to a bit of eec. -------------------------------------------------- The first of all my dreams was of a lover and his only love strolling slowly (mind in mind) through some green mysterious land until my second dream begins the sky is wild with leaves; which dance and dancing swoop (and swooping whirl over a frightened boy and girl) but that mere fury soon became silence: in huger always whom two tiny selves sleep (doll by doll) motionless under magical foreverfully falling snow. Sinister: 6th form shite

Hmmm, sorry Sarah, still think Manics stuff is shite, I have listened to it, I'm not just judging from outwards appearances, I've read almost all their interviews since from when they started too, and I think they're great like that, I still just don't like the band though. No 6th form shite in Belle and Sebastian, there's nothing pretentious floats around there - no sly references to Willem de Kooning or the like, at least, none which are not used in a damning way (c.f. Le Pastie) Still "Until I believe in my soul" by Dexy's is top, again, no "intelligent" reference points, just kind of what Kevin Rowland's good at, being very straight forward. Will love that record till the day I die. Oops, just remembered Burn it Down's stuffed full of references. Never mind, it's got a top brass break. That's what makes sense to me really, a lot of black music works this way, just being completely straight down the line, no need to have some prior knowledge of something to make sense of it which I like, cause it means it's likely to appeal to a broader range of people, not just rich kids who attended public schools in the south of England. There is the argument that it could get you interested in certain things which does hold some weight too, but personally I love the way Marvin Gaye says "War is hell, when will it end, when will people get together again".
