It's funny, but everyone else already said what I wanted to in reply to Tag on sunday, better than I could have. Anyhow: The Duke Said: yeah David, there's 400 people on this list, but how many do you think would share some kind of wish and desire and have the energy to actually DO something with the love they profess? Aside from just idly chit chat and look forward to the next release? Some of us do try to do things but they always turn out crap, so we get dispirited, and we decide that it's too much like hard work to try all over again. Then we find something like B&S or even maybe something like your letter and it gives them that spark to try one last time, or to keep trying, and even if it does always turn out crap at least it's better than sitting at home watching telly, believing in all the sanitised rubbish that we get fed. Never take the easy way out guys! I'll illustrate my point by saying that I think this letter is pants, but I only think so because all my others usually are, and I hope that maybe this time it will all turn out beautiful, and even if it doesn't I'll keep doing it. Sorry. (It's all Tag's fault though - he started this.) (Soap box breaks, standing on floor now...) BTW Should I get the High Llamas LP or go for the Propellerheads? Brad - The Smiths is Dead has been around a while and sounds cool. I reckon that Placebo do teenage angst much better then most bands (and Nancy Boy by them nearly made me cry - once I had worked out what he was singing) so I love 'em. But in the same way that you like to have a good scream every now and then. Anyone else like 'em? If I was to mention any other band (you asked for it) it would be Chikinki, 'cos some friends of mine are in them, and the lead singer dances like I would imagine Stuart, Isobel, Chris et al would at gigs if they didn't have so many people watching them. They play the Louisiana and the Brewhouse in Bristol on the 19th & 20th and their name sounds a bit like Kinky. (They play cool music too, incidentally.) And I like them. Come along and say hi, I'll be wearing a B&S t-shirt probably (how cool are the new ones! I thought the old ones were good but the new ones are great and probably won't fall to bits too.) In the immortal words of Mr Glitter, hello, hello, it's good to be back... This dream business is getting quite disturbing,,, On Tuesday night I dreamt that all bands, by law, had to include a B&S song in their sets every time they played live. Last night I dreamt that I met Richard the drummer. We shook hands and he told me I had the softest hands he had ever touched. What does it all mean? By the by, I think that Stewpot and co will be hard pushed to come up with a better title for the next record than "The Song Snake". It certainly has the right level of double entendre... I'm exceedingly annoyed. Got called into work and made my flatmates promise to record alternative nation on MTV last night. Got in at 1am and they hadn't bothered. Does anyone want to tell me what was on/if it was good/ what the DOW's vid is like? I did however have a B&S dream where Stuart David was sitting opposite me in a school dining hall. However he looked like Howard Stern, (sorry Stuart!). Stuart Murdoch then walked past looking rather chubby. Sorry boys I don't mean all these things, its my subconcious I just can't control it........ Sinister: Two Sinister Lists

That sounds like a good idea in theory, but think about it this way: EVERY ONE of the chats about non-B&S related stuff came (at one point or another) from a very B&S related conversation. You might be able to have a list dedicated to just news for a while, but it'd trail off eventually. The only good compromise to this I've seen is the "Radiohead announce" list, which is just a news flash about Radiohead every so often. But once you get people with free time and an email address and access to even the strictest "news" list, there's no taming it. In other news, I read a good article on B&S this weekend that may have been mentioned here before. It was in the magazine Puncture, and was written by Tsunami frontwoman Jenny Toomey. It was pretty wordy, but very praising of good ol' B&S. It brought up some interesting points about religion in Stuarts lyrics, and had this horribly written "review" of B&S's NYC show (not written by Jenny Toomey). Anyway, if anyone gets a chance to read it, do. BUT, I need an answer to something: at one point in the article, ol' Jenny claimed that Monica Queen is actually Isobel singing under an assumed name. But I thought I had read on this list that Monica Queen is an entirely different person from Isobel altogether, and that she's in other bands. So if anyone feels like responding to this oft-asked question, ooh, that'd be appreciated. * as a member of the E.E. or why I love this list.... 1. I've just got 'meat' samosa all over the computer screen after laughing so much at Tag's last mail while having my lunch. I'm still giggling now and I've started on my Ribena, by thunder I could short circuit the whole place if I'm not carefull. But anything that can do that to me at work has got to be A Good Thing. 2. It makes me listen to other people 3. It makes me listen to more B&S and more than B&S. On a B&S point, I can't stop listening to Photo Jenny and Century of Elvis. I've just made a tape that runs those two into Speed of Light by the Fannies and I listen to it on the way home quite overwhelmed by opportunites for loveliness and beauty that our humble lives afford us. But I never used to be keen on either of those two songs, just one day I was listening and they struck something new inside me. it reminds me of my love of e.e.cummings. I have two little books of his poems and I adore his stuff. Not all of it; I reckon it's like life - most of it doesn't make sense, some of it is rubbish but then come bits that are so beautiful that it makes up for everything else. And whenever I flick through those books I find new bits. Poems I've looked at a hundred times may suddenly 'speak' to me. I read one that made me cry last week that has never meant anything to me before. It starts "in time's a noble mercy of proportion" and I ought to stick it up on my website at my earliest. B&S are like that for me, I'm still finding new treasures in an admittedly still small pool; long may it continue. the faith?
