Sinister: Calling unsigned bands

Bit of a cheek considering this is my first message to the list but here goes anyway... A couple of friends of mine are in the process of seriously looking into setting up their very own record label.. The idea behind it is as follows. They would release a very limited (500) hand numbered CD single from new shiny bands This would NOT be a profit related venture, just a chance for new bands to actually get their stuff pressed up, and sold to the public. They would push the bands, sending copies to papers, radio stations and the like... (yes it is true that the bands could do this themselves, but not many do!) Basically we want to know if people would be interested in this idea. If anyone has any comments, suggestions, offers of help, or even demos could they please contact either Siobhan (Siobhan(a)GREENERGY.co.uk) Gareth (armadillo(a)ccm.co.uk) or myself. (Who knows perhaps one of their releases could end up to be as wonderful a thing as the georgeous Tigermilk - and we all know where that has lead!!!). Sinister: volume is pleasant

i was reading this article in some magazine, i think maybe a.p., but that's not important. it was about all the new things going on in ol' athens, ga. you know....neutral milk hotel, elf power, olivia tremor control...all those bands. but then it went into the history of athens.....something i lived through....and it brought back many good memories. of the music that is. i hate the town. bunch of fucking fratboys and people who think they're cooler than you.....and there's an athens way of talking. it's hard to describe it in words, but everything sounds like a question. "i'm gonna go to mcdonald's?" "this is my demo?" but anyway, that's not my point. well....screw all this nonsense. the whole purpose of this letter is wasn't pylon one of the best fucking bands ever? i dug out all my stuff. the pylon albums, the love tractor albums, the athens ga inside out comp., squares blot out the sun...all of it. i even started listening to my old rem stuff again which i hadn't listened to since i realized what a fucking waste "monster" was. but back to pylon...can i get an amen? duke? that perfection as a hipster guy? anyone? surely there are fans on this list. i reckon anyone who likes the first couple of go-betweens albums would love pylon. i even liked their short lived reunion album. and that band on the athens ga inside out album...the bar-b-q killers..."oh oh oh shit" i'm rambling. anyone else had these songs and bands and albums as their middle and high school soundtracks? or is it a georgia thing? -brad ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . I, too, tried to go to the nyc sinister picnic around, say, 4:00, and couldn't find anyone! I looked all over the meadow, and saw no sinister sign, no milla, heard no strains of Belle and Sebastian wafting through the air. But I had a lovely boy with me from Boston so we had a picnic by ourselves and ate the gazpacho we made and the watermelon we brought. Then we had raspberry ices and turned our mouths blue and took pictures. So, you people missed out!! On homemade gazpacho! ("It's tomato soup served ice cold.") OK, also, I think at least one person on the list has a crush on me because I received a secret admirer e-mail right after I informed the list about that website. So confess!! Please?! Does he want us all to think that he is in league with the DEVIL???? Did anyone else click on the Loaded advert at the NME site? Bad idea, most distracting. Messers Hopkins, Ragtag and Watson should all be receiving bowel-threatening tapes soon. I finally got them posted! Yay! Tomorrow I'm off. I'm going to the delightful mining village of Barruelo de Santallun in northernmost Palencia, where I will no doubt engage the local shepherd in lunatic conversation, as per usual. He says all women are whores. To their faces. I think I'm his only friend. I taped the last two (70s) CDs of The WHO box set for the journey. Back soon, so don't get excited. Sinister: The REAL story of Sebastian and Belle the singer

He began to spread the rumour that he'd found some great friends who could play a variety of instruments. It all began to get out of control when his rigging of the Stow College student vote resulted in attention that would necessitate live appearances. After rejecting the life-size models of the band in clay option as too much like hard work, he panicked and went out and kidnapped the first six street urchins he came across. As local church warden, the evil Murdoch found a suitably soundproof hiding place down in the crypt, where he keeps the children chained up subject to unspeakable acts involving Murdoch's collection of arab straps and assorted sado-masochistic paraphernalia. They don't scream anymore. His campaign of terror has been so fiendish that the poor little innocents have been led to believe that any attempt at escape will only result in them falling into the hands of the spectre of wicked uncle and aunt 'David & Katrina'. As for pretty 'Isobel', yes that is her in the NME photo. BUT ONLY AFTER EXTENSIVE FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION. No wonder you didn't recognise her. That press shot of her in the surgical mask - that's not some arty prank, you know. The wee thing just wasn't pretty enough for the Mad Murdoch's sick fantasy of what a band should look like. Word has it 'Chris' is next for the scalpel. Apparently it wasn't enough that his jacket and hair resembled Johnny Marr's - he's got to look IDENTICAL IN EVERY DETAIL. Come on, you must have had your suspicions. The lack of press interviews, the obscure publicity shots, the sinister album titles. Surely none of you fell for that totally implausible 'we all met in an all night cafe, where we found we shared a love of Ladybird books' story?
