Needless to say, I have decided to dedicate a huge section to Belle and Sebastion next month. So if anyone has any quotes you would like me to add or just really obscure facts, please send me them. I'll be really nice and snail mail you the section when it is done too. For once this section won't be about hip hop and that awful cartoon on comedy central ( I can't even bring myself to say the name.) Oh, one more quick question is the Toronto or Philadelphia show sold out? I am being so irresponsible and planning my college visits around these concerts so I can go. What is even sadder is that I am selecting colleges based on how close I am to cities that get all concerts I want to go to! Ta! Sinister: there's something wrong with my toast

Oh, just run out of marmalade. Funny how it makes the bread look different. I'm not sure if all the British listies realise just how un-twee it is to be living in Toronto. It's a nice city and all, but distinctly lacking in Britishness, and hence Belle and Sebastian-related ambience. Having to miss out on all the fun little picnics and pub runs brings a tear to my eye *sniff, sniff*. I've just ordered TBWTAS (aka Twattybus), hopefully it will be arriving in my mailbox in a very short time because I hate waiting, I especially hate waiting for music to arrive because everyone else always seems to be giddy with the excitement of a new release, and then here I am ready to buy the cd but poo, they're all sold out so my only reasonable option is to do a little mail order and wait for 7-14 days for my shipment to arrive, along with Operation: Heavenly and the new Saint Etienne (won't this be a lovely delivery? yes, I do think so). However, I do have one concert ticket under my belt, so I can be quietly joyous with the knowledge that ha! I'm going to see My Most Favourite Band and perhaps others will miss them, of course I'm not wishing this on any of the lovely people on the sinister list, but any snooty obnoxious people who would only go because it's the cool thing to do. Which I don't think is the case in very many circles, but so long as there are no people there speading misery or bad vibes, then share and share alike. It's been unusually cold here lately, I'm wearing a big fuzzy sweater and woolly socks and outside I had mittens on. I don't mind this cool weather, really, in fact I'm quite looking forward to being able to wear my woollen coat and snuggly scarf and big furry russian sort of hat. But it is a little early to have frost and be seeing your breath in the mornings. And it's certainly too early to put away my sandals and cover up my toes. And to top it all off, I seem to have picked up a cold somehow - sore throat, headache, stuffy sinuses. Suffice it to say, I think I'm feeling pretty sinister. bundle up, sinisterines. truly, jessicaxo, a little sad that noone has a mental image of her. Sinister: a dream (a nightmare ?)...

Hi everyone :) Last night I made a strange, short dream. Maybe someone would be able to explain it to me... or give me some help ! I was working with and for Tony Blair (why him ? I hate him !) at 10 downing street. I was talking to him, and suddenly I saw a book on his desk. It was called "180 unpublished photos of Belle & Sebastian" (true !)... Curious as I am (well, 180 photos of them, it's not so common, you all know that), I couldn't help opening this book. But the content had nothing to do with the tittle. In fact, the book contained everything that Blair should know about the british nuclear bomb and its use... The dream stopped here. I'm so scared... How a french boy can dream of Tony Blair ? How is it possible to put both Blair and Belle & Sebastian in the same dream ? Does Blair love Belle & Sebastian ? Is he on the mailing-list ? Why such a cover for such a book ? What do Belle & Sebastian have to do with nuclear weapons ? British listees, do I need some help ? Am I ill, doctor ? hello list, I'm going to tell you all about the Manics and Mogwai gig in Stoke because...well just because I want to really, but because some of you might be interested as well, and it's all very amusing. So fast-forward if you couldn't care less. I've never seen a performance like it before in my life - anyone who's seen Mogwai live before knows how incredible they can be. But Mogwai playing to a Manics crowd? - nooooo, I thought, this cannot happen - for all their walls of white-noise, they're gentle lads at heart - the eyelinered-ones will tear them limb from limb, (what, no lyrics? but how can they be POLITICAL and DANGEROUS with no lyrics? - burn the witches!). Oh, how wrong I was - never in all my years have I seen hecklers dealt with in such an admirable way! One tune to go - numerous witty ejaculatiuons from the crowd, ("MANICS!", "GERROFF", "BOO!") - Dominic gives them the two fingers for the third time -Stuart takes the mic: "This one's for all you cunts out there who......(it goes incomprehensible here but you get the picture)" Then it's straight into the most blinding version of "Like Herod" you are EVER likely to hear. The quiet bit is drawn out for a simply unbearable amount of time for those in the know, who, like the band, stand grinning from ear to ear, in joyful anticipation of what is about to happen. And then.....BANG - like an electrical storm it kicks in, and the feather boas leap three feet into the air before their collective ears begin to bleed in a most satisfactory manner. I take such enourmous pleasure from seeing the two girls in front of me with their fingers in their ears, that I begin to question my human decency, but then I think sod it, and cackle away gleefully. Call it indie snobbery if you like, but I was there and I know which side the intolerance was coming from. And the irony is that what Mogwai stand for in music now, is exactly what the Manics stood for in 1991. Never have I seen a band treated so rudely, but like I said, never have I seen a crowd chastised so severely for doing so. The Manics were shit by the way. And I speak as a long-time fan, who was deeply saddened at the fact, but felt I got my money's worth anyway, thanks to Mogwai. And who was the boy in the blue Belle and Sebastian T-shirt? st. etienne are quite pleasant synth-pop type stuff... very sophisticated in a sugary sort of way... in my opinion, they have little to do with belle and sebastian, but when i first heard them, i thought they sounded like a synthier (see what i mean with the "uneloquent" --- which, come to think of it, is an even less eloquent construction) version of prefab sprout. i have been surprised not to hear any references to prefab sprout in these parts. in my opinion they are the greatest pop band of all time and not entirely unlike belle and sebastian... please berate me if you feel the need... Not that you're paying attention any more (see last posting) but this will probably be my last post for a while as I'm going to Uni, and while I'll keep subscribed I'll probably be too busy to contribute. Well, it's been a fun-ish few months, and I suppose I wish you well. I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know I'm too tired to be as depressed as I was when I wrote the last message Yes - depressed i.e. not pissed off. It just read like that. Sinister: Belle and sebby tribute band

One B&S tribute band I know of is when my boyfriend and I tool around on instruments in our living room trying (very unsuccessfully) to duplicate their beauty sound. We could be called Chris & Dan, or Simon & Boris (after 2 of our beloved pets) Saint Etienne is a nice group of glamorous kids!
