I'm only lucid when I'm writing e-mails I'm afraid to say that madness is beginning to permeate through sinister and there are now at least 2 people who are in serious need of a good psychiatrist. I'm sorry to say this but these people are in need of help before they endanger themselves. Who am I talking about? Well the 2 idiots who have voted for me on the list crush site of course. On a different note I've just read the diary of a band (keep posting them Honey, I like them) and felt that I ought to add a further recomendation of Gil Scott Heron, his was one of the best gigs I have ever been to managing to be deep and meaningful yet totally uplifting, I was there with all my mates who are ravers (CJ Bolland was on the same bill) and even they thought he was great. The only other time that's ever happened was when I took one of them along with me to see Damon and Naomi and he was almost moved to tears by them cos they were so good. good morning everyone. i'm sitting at work reminiscing the past 2 days & i thought i'd share them with all of you. on wednesday night i went to a disco with a car full of boys. the half-hour drive was an absolute riot. we talked about 'buffy the vampire slayer' tv show & generally made fun of each other. a few times i almost ran us off the road because i was laughing so hard. i'm currently taking applications for boys to ride with me in my car everywhere i go. it's really the best way to travel. when we got there, in the parking lot i started dancing & singing "and my disco hair gives me a certain disco flair, & when we go in there everyone will stop & stare", a song i made up as i went along. then my ex-boyfriend started singing about my hair to the tune of 'shaft'. it was hilarious. and i was right - they did all stare, at our superior dance moves. i slept at a friend's house with 2 other people & we stayed up until an ungodly hour talking & listening to b&s, which was nice. among us was an engaged couple & i just kind of observed them for a while. i can't relate to being in a relationship anymore. it's been over 2 years since i've had a boyfriend. and that's really sad for someone such as myself. i think i'm attractive (i'll put up a picture soon to prove it), i've got a sense of humour, i'm not fat, & i can drink way more than most people i know. but that's not the point. the point is that love is a wonderful thing & for those who are lucky enough to find it, hold on to it. the 4 of us had dinner yesterday at denny's, which is a chain-restaurant that hasn't updated their furniture since the early 80s. we went around the table & said what we were thankful for, in a mockery of thanksgiving tradition. i gave thanks for polly-o string cheese, friends & family, & oral contraceptives; in that order. i don't remember what the others said because i was looking at the crooked red & black b&s sticker on the back of my friend's car. we caused a ruckus, being deliriously hungry from sleeping the day away. the waitress got mad at us for calling her pie girl & then we went home. i didn't have nearly enough alcohol & that's why i recall all of these details. this may not happen again for a long, long time (some sinisterines let out a heavy sigh of relief). good-bye, darlings. misbehave. -heather e. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Hello all and sundry, I'm most dulled. So much so that I actually took up the offer of playing snooker this lunchtime. I was quite pleased as I successfully managed not to rip the baize. Actually that sounds like a good euphemism for something smutty. Hmm... Answers on a postcard please. I went round some couply friends house the other night and found that all 4 of them are addicted to low fat junk food and jogging pants. It was another world, where cigarettes and alcohol were not King and Queen, instead in their thrones were sitting low fat chocolate hobnobs and a pair of Nike drawstrings. I must admit though that the carrot cake they had was quite moreish, it was moist and everything. But I did not succumb to their comfortable trousered, diet naughty fooded ways. So instead tonight of chewing the low fat to the shows television yields I think I shall be supping with D Matt to the sounds of Track and Field. Umm.. I think I'll nip my poetic contribution to Archel in the bud now and concentrate on ripping the baize. Maybe... Only if its a good thing mind... Today I've been mostly thinking about Love. The band that is. Obviously, I don't mean the other thing as that involves girls and they're far too scary. I've sent my top ten songs of Love that came into my mind and why to the B & S site. Which killed at least 5 minutes of another busy day at the office. Then after checking my "more Scott Walker CD's please!" order at HMV, did my top five movies of the millenium. I'm now starting to think ,though, that maybe Spaceballs isn't the best film of all time. Oh well, go with your instinct I guess or maybe just carry on ripping the baize. I'm sure I had something to say. Oh well, just so this mail isn't completely fruitless I shall add some random bodily parts to up the big Bodypartometer. Gosh - who remembers Luther Blisset's hattrick ? Even Ricky Hill played in that game - if ever there was an act of contempt towards the oppostion. Sorry all this talk of footy has somewhat aroused me into writing my first post in yonks. I've been sooo busy. DAVID WILKIE Firstly the King of Thailand (who's birthday it is on the 5th so I'll see you all in Athena tommorow) enlisted my Duncan Goodhew-like talents to teach Madame Ooon how to swim. She prefers elephants to water, but by the end of my stay I had her playing water-polo like a rock-hard bastard. BEEF AND MUSTARD Sorry to all of you who didn't get a postcard from us, but I can whole-heartedly suggest you cut down on your biscuit nibbling and save your pennies for a trip to Krabi in the South of Thailand. There can only be a few places left in the world so beautiful - Mountains, rainforest, paradisial (?) beaches and coral reef and because it is relatively untouched by commercial tourism, sunbeds ten a man. That kind of takes the fun out of being an Englishman on holiday - no ritual towel dunking at dawn !!! SPOTTY BACK Talking of elephants and football, we went to a show of football-playing elephants. They all had cute shirt-like things with famous footballers names on. And true to form Shearer was a complete tool. Davor Suker had a shot on him that would break your average goalkeepers legs, and Oliver Bierhoff laid the biggest turd you've ever seen. KEVIN CAMPBELLS JOCKSTRAP Talking of elephants and football, tomorrow is the game that should see the biggest gathering of great football minds, and the biggest gathering of shit on one small paddy field ever....Exeter vs Torquay. So if Mark C wants a fight and a ticket for the Everton cup game he better turn up at The Park tomorrow. Right that's enough from me - I'm just glad I only have poor-mans telly and missed that dreadful Tube revival thingy on Sky. Sinister: A Confession...

I will be honest. I always thought it would be quite impossible to dream about every member of the bellend sebastian. even more difficult and unlikely, i thought, to dream about them playing instruments in a gig situation, with each member playing the right instrument. With me recognising each member because they looked SOOOOO life like. And arse me if i wasn't right. I had been considering (in real life, not dream world...) putting on gigs at the arts cinema i work at, and it has been occupying my head rather a lot recently. Evidently, when combined with going to sleep listening to B&S it results in dreams about me putting gigs on with B&S playing. But here is the crucial bit. There were 4 Isobels, all the same but with different hair. They seemed to be doing most of the boring stuff that doesn't involve being The Murdoch and looking quite angry. It was definately Belle and Sebastian though because someone in my dream deemed in neccesary to stand up and shout about it being to quiet. The others were there, but they all hid their faces from me.... Suffice to say my promoters aspirations have been somewhat dulled, as i have a feeling this gig wasn't a sucess. I think it was a sign. But then again, maybe it was a good sign. i'm trying to think of bands suitable to sitting down events. mail me off list if you have any particually wonderful ideas....bearing in mind that, as yet, sitting down isn't the new standing up and being noisy and all excited. yet. anyway... Honey Said: "bizarre to see them not dropping guitars or suffering from hilarious banana-skin incidents on stage." no, but it happened in my dream probably, so normal service resumed. So, how was everyone's Day of Overeating? Here's a quick recap of mine: There was boredom followed by dullness with a dash of echh. The big contemplative question of the day was "Pecan and Pumpkin Pie: Previews of Heaven or Tools of Lucifer?" The answer is still being fought out - cast your votes now. Honest Honey said, "Trivia fans: "Laura" mentioned below is the same Laura responsible for the fabulous cartoons on the Sinister WWW site." Dang you mummy. How am I suppose to keep living in a deluded world if you insist on spouting the truth all of the time? I want to having bulging bags of records. I want to draw fabulous cartoons featured on fabulous websites. I want to have just spent time catching up with friends with Chris Geddes. But Nooooo. I'm thrown out of my world of delusions of belle and sebastian greatness back into a place called reality where things like that don't happen. Oh well, I do like Honey posting the diary to the list because then we get to hear more from him - which I like. *YaY* Not to dis Chris (sorry I just wanted to rhyme), but I think that Stuart Murdoch might be my favorite Sebastian. Not that I know the band at all well enough (as in I don't know a dang them about any of them) to have a favorite, but yes its Stuart. Most likely because he has a bicycle with my name. Thinking out loud (when I found out about this), I was trying to come up with similarities between myself and a bicycle. I had to quickly change the subject as someone suggested something about handlebars. *ack* My latest endeavor has been making a mix tape where Belle and Sebastian will reign mightly on side A. My other favorite group, The Pixies, will prance headily along on the second side. It has been quite the challenge trying to narrow down which songs should go on the tape and in what order. Right now, I'm listening to them trying to come up with which ones of the Pixies Song to choose. I feel like a beauty contestant judge. Cecilia Ann is Miss Congeniality. That wasn't tough with with 'Break my body' and 'I bleed' for competitions. Does anyone else feel like getting Frank Black a cup of hot tea after listening to a Pixies cd? You know his throat has to be sore after some of those songs. I also just finished submitting my list of Top 10 Pixie Songs to the belle and sebastian site (though I did it with someone else so the songs are vastly different from what I would have chosen had it been a solo project). I feel like I left so much out. I don't think I will ever attempt it with Belle and Sebastian songs - it just hurts too much to leave good tunes by the wayside. Oh well. Just think, my little list will be amongst the likes of such great lists as Top Ten would-be phrases from American Talk shows. Wave of Mutilation right up there with "Yo' pinko blueberry muffins yo couldn't even do a sunny-side for the Minnesota Moose Haulers." Sucker Punch Jensowl said, "Yada, yada yada - knitting - yada, yada yada." Ok, so I'm paraphrasing. I was quite excited to hear that someone else has 'grandmotherly tendencies'. Although I don't knit, I do crochet. It is a habit of the devil. i don't really like it but its quite addictive. I make blankets rather than scarves though - so place those orders with Jen and not me. Is anyone else disturbed by the new body part section of the list? The one leg picture wasn't all that bad and I'm sure that people everywhere with shoe fettishes will quite enjoy it. I always liked Christopher Morley's quote about high heels being invented by a woman who was kissed on the forehead. I was just about to go into a detailed paragraph trying to mention all of my body parts in random ways so that I might be able to add another tally to the list (and get harrassed by the 'enforcer'. Oohhh just the thought makes me *shiver*) but I'll restrain. Being poor the only thing I can afford is self-denial, so I'm quite good at it. i am listening to an early ray charles record....oooohhhhhhh.......fantastic...... i may just keep playing it for the whole night through. i bought it yesterday along with an alberta hunter record - anyone know a thing about her? well the record is also fantastic and there is the most darling photo of her on the sleeve, oh she is an angel. thanksgiving was lovely. there was a birthday cake for my twin brother and i and everyone sang and i got to blow out candles with him and everything. blowing out birthday cake candles is one of my favorite things in the world. and it was the first time in a long time that i didnt make a wish that in someway referred to unrequited love. oh. but i am a tall girl and i can fall hard. the day was only dampered a bit when my aunts reprimanded me for not doing a very good job of being a proper lady. i laughed. proper lady my arse. z-z-zoe asked: >WHAT IS/WAS THE BOWLIE? he-he what wasnt the bowlie..... b-b-babychris made this statement: >The smashing pumpkins did a song called >landslide they coverd it. originally done by fleetwood mac. which is a nicer version because crazy stevie nicks adds more of a haunting-ness to it. j-j-johan told us: >i have no interest in horses i think horses are lovely. galloping around on a horse an amazing experience indeed, a bit sexual, a bit mad. regardless, this post is really fucking long and has no, eh, b&s content whatsoever. Hi all, I'm writing with a plea for kindness. My car was broken into the other night. They stole the stereo and a box of tapes. I was doing a tape inventory today to see exactly what I was missing. Well...it turns out I was stupid enough to leave my only copy of the Barcelona 97 show that I had in there. Also on the tape was my only copy of "Rhoda" ! Hello it's me! First off I can't take credit for the new quotation in the footer, although I think it's peachy, but I did correct it recently having been nudged by List Lawyer Carsmile Steve that we didn't want to be sued for an inaccurate quotation. OK, so there's no bare skin yet, but you get the idea, AND you can take a peek at Damon's fabulous bodypart inventory of list content in the last week or so on the link from that page as well. Lots of you have mentioned your bodies in posts to the list, you frisky things, and not sent in photos, contrary to the new list rule - Damon will be popping round to your house soon with a Polaroid camera to rectify this. I pick my words carefully, and Mr David Moore, wash your mouth out now. So send your contributions in now before you hear a knock on the door. Ideally the thing you send in will be capable of growing hair or perspiring, and may not be recognisable. And to get you in the mood, you could do worse than pop over to www.cat-scan.com. I'm hoping for our very own hate-mail collection too one day. Talking of cats! Hands up who lives in Reading, or has visited a post office in Reading, or slept with a postman in Reading or SOMETHING! Splat the Cat who lives with me and whose meeow you can hear on the Sinister site got a package from Reading (UK) with her own voice sampled to within an inch of its life and singing 6 TOP POP HITS from the 1980s and 90s including Boyzone, Joan Jett and The Gate! I have a hitlist of 4 likely candidates on keyboards - yes you, sniggering at the back. Anyway, I'll MP3 some of it sometime soon if anyone wants to hear - and believe me, you do. So sue me. Yes, the site of the band doing Loneliness on TV at the weekend really was worth waiting for, for me anyway - bizarre to see them not dropping guitars or suffering from hilarious banana-skin incidents on stage. Apparently that bit where Stuart stopped singing and giggled at the breakdancer in the crowd was because he'd actually suggested someone breakdancing out front before the cameras started rolling, and someone took him up on it. I did like the whistling fade-out bit though, like in Bridge Over The River Kwai. Oh and! I really really really want JENOWL and GEORGE to marry and have lots of sinister babies. Is "Jeepster Own My Soul" grammatically correct? Just wondering. Finally, Katrina's sent on the latest band diary from the Guardian. It's on the band WWW site but no-one's asked me to stop sending them here yet, so you're about to get it here. Do tell me if I'm being a pain. Mummy xxx DIARY OF A BAND 24th November 1999 I had a holiday for a few days there. It was great except that in the ten days I was away they might as well have abolished the game of football for all I've got left to cheer about. I guess I should be glad I was away really, and only came back to see Scotland win at Wembley. I'd got up early on Saturday to try to see the Hampden leg in New York, but every Irish bar was full at eight in the morning. I suppose in some ways it's pretty good to have been on the other side of the world for the Lyon game and the old firm. Still, I shouldn't moan. Laura and myself both caught up with friends and came back with bulging bags of records. We were in San Francisco as well as New York, two pretty contrasting places. In San Francisco there are streets in the city centre where from the top you can see the countryside beyond the city. From New York we drove for about an hour one day without ever really being in open country, which isn't to say there wasn't a good view. The city at night looks great from a distance. The Burritos in San Francisco were better, but on the other hand the record shops in New York stay open later. Surprisingly there are less homeless on the streets in New York, but only because the police move them all on. I saw a rat there the size of a small dog. Also I was lucky enough to see Gil Scot Heron play. He was powerful and funny and funky and uplifting and hard hitting from one moment to the next. His band were named amnesia express because they had forgotten why they were called amnesia express. The piano player Brian Jackson was one of the best I've ever been lucky enough to see. I was glad to come home too. We've been back in the studio this week and tomorrow we're getting the train down to Newcastle to record songs for the Tube. Everyone is pretty excited about it; there's an Ikea and good record shops in Newcastle.
