Sinister: Eyes to the sky, nose to the ground

Hello? Mmm, yes it's me again. Today I went into town and appeared to have developed *the mysterious stare of the hex*, as everyone I looked at seemed to fall over, or hit their boyfriend, or have a spastic fit. Oh dear. Just when things are going okay, I'm bestowed with a gift from the devil. Just my luck. Whilst looking for Christmas presents and buying NONE I decided that this season of goodwill I would give myself to the world of literature - you know, books - and so I bought a copy of Father Brown Investigates. I averted my eyes from the bookseller as I did this, just in case. He'd never suspect my affliction if I just keep my head down and hand him a book about a Catholic priest, I thought. Last night I was entertained by Lionel Blair with his devouring smile and Linda Lusardi with her doubly devouring thighs at the city pantomime. The place was full of fat mums, purple-rinsed grandmas and spoilt kids, all joined together in the festive spirit of laughing at a man in drag and seven tiny little men. They were very small - I suppose that's why they provided binoculars. Tiny, little, men. Seven of them. Dick Whittington it was, I think. Lionel Blair reminds me a bit of Lenny The Lion with his luxurious, ever so manly mane. If only Lenny could tap dance, maybe he'd still have a career. I was discussing the Willenium yesterday with my mate and he said that if someone knocked on his door on New Years Eve dressed in a beard and sandals, like Jesus, he'd go bonkers. I think I would too. So I've decided, that for the Willenium, instead of going to some crazy party, I'm going to dress up in a beard, sandals and a comfortable pair of pants, tie my feet to a couple of barrels and float down the Thames, as if I was "walking on water", singing songs from "Jesus Christ Superstar". I wonder what would happen. On the B+S website they mention that they've recorded "over twenty" songs for the new album but don't know which ones to put on it yet. Sounds to me like they need a helping hand with deciding. I vote for a Pokemon-style face-off between the band members to sort things out. sorry about the subject line, but that's all i can remember of a fantastic alternative christmas carol composed by some boys in my class at school when we were about eleven. the only other comparable song i can remember was a beautiful version of the lulu classic which went something along the lines of 'you make me wanna fart' those were the days... sigh!! while i'm discussing obscenities, brad said >fuck the parrot no, really a weeny bit of list abuse before i continue, if anyone's going to be in the leeds area over the christmas period, get in touch with me at feegrr(a)hotmail.com (not here coz i won't get it) i seem to have managed to not stay in touch with anyone at home, bar a couple of my bestest mates and i need more people to go out drinking with. yesterday, i bought smash hits, not just because its always a fine read, but because it was the poll winners party results edition. also, as some kind of a christmas gesture they had various pop stars dressed up as different people. who would have thought that billie would actually make a convincing marilyn monroe, no really. i was disappointed with adam rickitt as john travolta in saturday night fever, somehow that just didn't work, i can't imagine why. what could we dress the b+s kids up as? it doesn't even bear thinking about. december 16th and i haven't even heard fairytale of newyork all the way through yet this year. no wonder i don't feel festive. they've started selling christmas trees in sainsbury's, i'm not sure how you're supposed to get them through the checkouts without getting needles stuck in your mince pies, though. as the guy from robot wars would say, cease!! so i'll wish you all a shiny, self indulgent christmas, and a willenium you won't remember with any luck. i might speak to you all before then, or i might not, i shall just leave you hanging. stay beautiful, fiona ****if you're in fashion then you've got to think there's something wrong +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". first in a series... i must apologize for yesterday's short horrible post, especially to the fellow who chastised me about it. it was very late, and my mind wasn't in the right place. but my heart was. maybe. that's a cliche. so fuggit. to the lad who's teaching himself the guitar: i'm doing the same. i've had good luck with modern rock song, just because it's beautiful, lovely, and only has three chords. DAG,DAG over and over again. the instrumental break takes some practice, though, and sounds like shit without a trumpet solo. sigh. i've also tried the state i am in, but since i've only been playing it with three chords (G, C, and D), i know for a fact that i'm doing it wrong. and mayfly is nice, except for that nasty Bm, which i'm learning now (see prev. post) i scratched up my dad's guitar rather badly, playing a dan bern song too loudly. he didn't get too mad though, so that's good. i haven't bought any christmas presents yet. at all. oy. and i've been reading the new york times, because it's good for the brain, you know. good stuff. i still have the wilted rose that a girl gave me after the show... it's sad, because right after must have been when she decided that she didn't want to "be more than we are." of course, i shouldn't mope about it, because she has far more important things to be worried about, like being kicked out of her house and getting into college with no income. but the rose makes me feel sad anyway. kill me, i'm so twee. - adam aconover(a)optonline.net Tempus Fugit is at: http://www.i2.i-2000.com/~conover/tempus/main.html +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". hello and indeed goodbye this is my last post till February and I'll be unsubbing in a few days in order to go home for christmassss (damn keyboard) and new year. hello, and also au revoir to everyone who's leaving their pooters for xmas. i suspect that while mother archel is watching the vicar of dibley and grandma archel is asleep in front of it, i shall have nothing better to do than look at festive internet porn/sinister bodyparts. <sigh> HISTORY young roddy spoke of violence erupting while watching the bootleg beatles. said band played at my graduation ball and hence will always connote worse things than thuggish threats: drunken lovey-dovey couples the male halves of whom i had previously had my heart broken by, my own soon-to-be-ex boyfriend not there, feeling stupid trying to do the twist in a huge ballgown, not getting drunk enough, saying goodbye to the happiest days of my life. if i ever see them live again i'll probably have a nasty flashback and the tears held back for a decade or whatever will all come flooding out. hm, that wasn't very cheery. anyway, i accidentally heard the westlife cover of 'seasons in the sun' the other day, and that made graduation seem like a picnic (a sinister one of course.) NAUTICAL NAUGHTINESS did you know that the names 'morrissey' and 'murdoch' are actually quite closely related, etymologically? they both derive from words to do with the sea, murdoch means 'sea warrior' i believe. which will come as no surprise to those of us who've seen struan's longboat. ie. owen. Sinister: the soundtrack of my life

I have been thinking for quite a while about it. Before coming to uni, the everyday soundtrack of my life was R.E.M.In my schoolyears, they were there everyday.Gave me inspiration and influenced me.Then,this summer my dream of seeing them live came true.Then i left my house-and litterally everything- behind and started a new life.And the soundtrack of this new life is Belle & Sebastian.The first cd I bought here was Tigermilk.I have met some beautiful people because of B&S.It is weird that a band can bring so much happiness to a person's life.It's not only the happiness that the music gives.It's all that has preceded the music and all that has come afterwards.The thoughts and the feelings. hiya kids, this is my first post, so i wanted to introduce myself, even though it'll be kind of cheezy. but here goes, anyway. my name's andrea. i'm a student (art history). i was born in that super year 1977. i live in portland, oregon (since 1977). i know a little bit of french and little bit of italian, but i can't remember much of either (i'm hoping to go to france to study sometime in the next 2 years). i like macintoshes (the computer), and printmaking (i.e. acid and drypoint etching), NES emulators (especially Super Mario 2), pop music, cats, sock monkeys, riding bikes while listening to belle and sebastian, etc. my main hobbies are reading books, drawing and printmaking, and doing my radio show (at my school) every week. a short list of bands i like (so as not to be boring): b&s (duh), joan of arc, cap'n jazz, damien jurado, built to spill, quasi, bobby conn. i wish i could be a travel photographer. sometime soon, on a day when it's NOT raining, i hope i can learn how to use my camera, and then i'll go around portland and take pictures of all the places that are fun to go in portland (not the normal touristy places), and then make a neat little webguide for the savvy traveler. ok, last thing. my belle and sebastian story for the day. when joan of arc came through town last summer, they were playing belle and sebastian's if yr feeling sinister over the sound system when joan of arc was setting up their equipment and tim kinsella started singing along with the song (i think it was the boy done wrong again). anyway, i just thought it was cool that he likes them. sincerely, andrea kittenmouse radio (mondays 9.00-10.00 pm PST) kpsu 1450 am portland, oregon kittenmouse(a)hotmail.com www.kpsu.org can't look at the sky without looking right thru it ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net".
