Hey chipmunkz, It's been a rum coupla weeks and no mistake. Nimmo, Springfield, Kubrick - all newly arrived in that sandalwood-scented VIP lounge in the sky. Especially tragic as we'll now never get to see Stanley's 185-minute satirical psychodrama 'A Vicar on Jupiter', with Dusty and Wendy Carlos spazzing Analogue Memphis skank-soul all over the soundtrack. Back on topic before Andy Dean smacks my legs... Those of you in the London area may already know about tomorrow night's "200 Troubled Teenagers" event in New Cross - an event I'm at least a little uneasy about but shall probably attend out of sheer curiosity. It surely can't be as bad as all those Smiths nights they used to have at two-bit Indie Clubs in the late 80s. Not that I ever attended one of those, alone, clinging to the walls all night with a Southern Comfort or anything. Oh no. For some reason, Time Out have elected to list this event in the Gay section. Now, this could be because the venue is one frequented by South-East London's gay community or (and I prefer to believe this possibility) TO have genuinely jumped to a particular conclusion about B&S and their fanbase. They even refer to "Belle and Sebastiane" throughout the piece. Derek Jarman and rivers of spunk. You know the one. 1975, torture and martyrdom. Cor blimey. I say we all embrace this inadvertent act of pigeonholing. Pam and I intend to paint the Bowlie double-decker pink, and I *demand* that the entire Camber Sands event be renamed Fopstock. Copies of Trousers' pamphlet "How To Cut It As A Straight Man In A Gay World" are available from the Poetry Cafe. That is all. Sinister: stolen kisses

I am very glad Sinister is back. While it was away at the spa, I had to keep sending messages to myself, to cover the absence in my inbox. Myself and I had a disagreement; it erupted into a flame war. However, we talked it out, and now we, erm.. I, see my own point of view. The Looper album didn't arrive at my local record shop today. I searched the stacks; I searched the new releases. Eventually I asked the man behind the counter, but there was still no Looper. After the disappointment, I still might find the courage to go back to that store. Two kitties live in it, guarding the store. Record and cats--a little bit of heaven. Besides, he said the album should be in tomorrow. Brian and I are journeying to this Bowlie. Could anyone put us up in London that Thursday night? We are very clean. Sinister: Covent Garden Looper instore

Well, I got to the Rough Trade shop early yesterday and spotted a couple of shifty looking characters taking photos outside the shop. I'm glad that I spent a few minutes stalking Stuart D and Wee Karn (for it was they) as I didn't see them at all during the show. Instead I got to see the back of the heads of people peering between the record racks, who in turn only saw an occasional glimpse of Stuart D's trousered knee. That shop is a bit on the tiny side at the best of times, and the prospect of being in close proximity with Stuart D in an enclosed space was a bit worrying given his reputation, but luckily there was no discernable odour. The man from Select was tapping on his notebook in time with the Ballad of Ray Suzuki, so I think he liked it. He didn't smile during Columbo's Car though, and I reckon that anyone who fails to smile during Columbo's Car has no soul. Anyone who fails to be enchanted by our transatlantic visitor Jennifer also has no soul, and sadly I didn't even realise it was the same Jennifer I had exchanged a flurry of emails with last year until it was time to head home. Sorry Jennifer. dear friends In the Sunday times ECOSSE section, on 7/3/99, there was a huge article on the b&s brits win and stuff about the ''vote rigging'' (does 'sour grapes' mean anything to pete waterman?). (If anyone wants me to mail it to them, mail me, cos it's quite good. I'll just give you a nice quote from it (it was somthing like this; I'm doing it from memory) "meanwhile, the rest of the band were back in glasgow, and listening to the radio coverage of the event. When Nick cooke was halfway through his acceptance speech, an extremely confused Stuart Murdoch cootoned on to who was speaking, and said "huh - have we won something?"." I liked this. It also said that TBWTAS had gone gold, with 'sinister' reaching sales of 60,000. Once again - does anyone else have a stow puzzle cube - they are the ones where you slide the squares around, and one square is missing, and you need to remake the picture. I love mine dearly, and it has pride of place on our mantlepiece. see you soon, folks.
