I've tried to listen to them, but I really can't say that I got it. Don't know why. And tomorrow it's a day off for us from the neverending cycle of worklife. Thank god for Jesus. Without you and your daddy-o we couldn't go out tonight (well we could, but we'd be pretty tired the next morning). And I don't even know why we don't have to get out of bed tomorrow. But then again, I'm an agnostic who's not paying any taxes for the church, so why should I care? And now for something conserning Belle & Sebastian. Hmmm... How should I put this... Is it true that Jeepster is going to stop selling B&S- merchandise? Heard it from trustworthy sources. Well, I don't care anymore, since I've got my buttons, "Study at Stow"- t-shirts and "If youre feeling sinister"-shirts. But is there a a specific reason for this, or is it just because Belle & Sebastian is getting too commercial and all those dimwits who got into B&S after TBWTAS think it's a credible thing to wear a shirt of a band they've only really dug for about 6 months or so (and yes, this is supposed to be irony)? And like they said in Select-magazine, does it make you a better person when you can say "Yeah, they used to be better back in the good ol' days when they weren't this big." If it does, well then fuck off. G'day chums! Jarkko Frantila was a bit dubious about the flaming lips. What can I say. Go and see them live. They are orgasmic. Hey, they are POST orgasmic. I saw them supporting Mercury Rev (who made my head go funny, I don't know why!). The lead singer was sex in a duffle coat...and he walked past me and smiled before their set. I am truly blessed. They had a big gong which they hit repeatedly, although never with their heads which is what I was hoping for. They also had backing singers in the shape of a shark hand puppet and a nun hand puppet. It was very bizarre, and just a little bit scary which added to the fun. Hey kids! I've just been let out of the nursery so thought I'd say hello to you all as I've been dying to do for ages. It's a bit frustrating in there as I'm sure you'll all remember, kind of like seing photos of Bowlie when you weren't there (which I wasn't either, boo hoo!). I'm in Durham (a grim place) revising for my finals at uni and getting v bored. And B&S are providing the soundtrack to my life at the moment. Anybody got any thoughts on the image of women in the media (preferably in German)? Sinister: day three

hello yous, I found a little pot in oxfam with 'Camber Sands' written on one side and 'playing cards' on the other. The pot was empty (the irony!). I didn't get to go and can only look in from the outside and dream of what filled it up. Like the pot. But I found a pair of Frank Butcher sunglasses after that which cheered me up no end. (*note to non-brits: Frank Butcher is a character in the best english soap Eastenders, he looks a bit smelly and rough around the edges, but he's got a heart of pure gold. Or at least geunine gold plated. He wears brown tinted glasses, you may have also seen jarvis cocker sporting a pair. It's funny how Jarvis used to look so sexy in grandad clothes, but now just looks drap. I would have tried to make him feel famous if I did go to bowlie though, I'd feel so sorry for him I'd have probably camped outside his chalet one night. I mean, everyone deserves to feel special don't they? espcially if they're famous and no one cares. mwahaha! ). sorry, that's a load of all hat. You may wonder what I was going in oxfam during study leave. You may not. but The Answer is that I was trying to waste some time now I've coloured every inch of my revision timetable in coloured pencils, and gone over all the pencil in biro. Sinister: What kind of a pet shop plays rambunctious jazz music at three in the morning?

What-o, neglecterinos. I need your help, oh musical know-it-alls (maybe I should just mail Kevan? (1000 voices cry "yes")). I need to find some speakeasy jazz music, as heard in Moe's Pet Shop when Homer was the beer baron. I intend to turn my room into a speakeasy, complete with a small slot in the door that you have to say the password through. Any recommendations? I tried to find 'The Best Speakeasy Jazz Album in the World...Ever', but all the shops in Reading must have sold out of it. Why I'm looking forward to a remastered Tigermilk: Will we finally be able to identify who is give Stuart oral pleasure during Expectations? On the third or fourth generation copy I have I can hear the zip coming down but nothing else in any detail. Michael PS Does any poor soul out there have my tape tree tape? Apparently the merchandising is a great money spinner but it's taking up too much of Jeepster's time, at the expense of things like singing new bands. Anyway, at least this contradicts the view that Jeepster are an evil BUSINESS just wanting to make MONEY, since a sensible capitalist strategy in these circumstances would surely be to take on more menial staff to send out all the T-shirts and badges. Maybe they fear that these workers will realise that they are buttering Mark Jones' bread and seize the means of production. Or something. I'm not very good on Marxist theory. A nice French boy posted a great treatise on the subject a while ago but got shouted down by some nasty American man who said 'Hey, where do get off on spouting all this political shit?' Note my insidious demarcation of 'boy' and 'man'. I have no idea what their respective ages are but boy = good whilst man= bad. Oh dear, I hope the American man isn't still on the list or else this might constitute one of those flame things. I'm sorry. I'm surely you are lovely and my memory is addled. Sinister: 10 Roddington Place

Gene Simmons is in this week's NME, sharing his favourite records with us - one of which is "I wanna hold your hand" which Gene must find amusing I would guess seen as he's allegedly had more than a billion women! He also points out that he's always been a fan of Jonathan King, and that his record for New Year's Eve 1999 is Jonathan King's classic "Everyone's gone to the moon", he's a fan of the way Mr.King is able to make music and do business. Great stuff, Gene is apparently good at making music and doing the business! On a similar note, the wonderful Beta Band have been forced to rerecord a track which includes the lyric from the catalyst of all things Welsh in music, and starting point for Catatonia, the Manics, the Sterephonics etc. Welsh rock princess Bonnie Tyler's "Total eclipse of the heart". Apparently Jim Steinman (Meatloaf songwriter pop-pickers) refused the Betas the right to release the track as he plans to ressurect the track soon - there's one to look forward to. The Beta Band play in Edinburgh on June 12th, and I advise everyone to go and see them, they're really bangin' There's a program on the telly about Mercury Rev tonight too, it's on about 10 past 1 in the morning. Hello...I'm a little bit nervous after going into exam-enforced hibernation for a few weeks. Not that I posted much anyway. Now that I'm back though - can I ask the regular list peeps what happened to the Monday poem? That was one of my favourite brighten-your-day bits of sinister.
