Sinister: Radio 1/Don't tie knots in your hair

Did anyone else go to the Radio 1 roadshow in Great Yarmouth on Thursday? The bands weren't great, but we saw Comedy Dave which made up for it all! Shed 7 were proud of miming, and decided it would be really funny to just prance around the stage without moving their mouths, just to show how cool they were. Well I don't think much of miming, but it's even worse when you're actually proud of it. Frigid Vinegar were cool. Apparently it's a plasterer's mate from Milton Keynes. People keep mentioning bumping into other Sinisterees. How do you do this? In a country with 58m people, I would have no idea how to bump into a Sinisteree. Does it require practice? happy birthday! my news: as of tuesday i have been living in a different house, which is quite exciting (well, as exciting as living in a big, old, spidery house with your grandmother ever gets.) am reduced to sneaking home to email and steal food. odd. i will be celebrating sinister's birthday entertaining a friend from newcastle who is foolishly squandering all his funds on a train fare to visit me. we will be attending a free art/jazz/food/garden thing at the castle in nearby lewes. i used to work there, but i am determined not to be co-opted into answering stupid questions or picking up litter. this friend, if not quite introducing me to nick drake, certainly nourished my interest, and in return i have bestowed b&s on him. i fear, however, that the conversion has not been as total and triumphant as most of my other attempts - perhaps this weekend i will have to sit him down with 'my wandering days...' and 'get me away from here...' until he succumbs. i refuse to belive that *anyone* can not be melted by those 2 songs. 'boozy blokes beware' said that stunningly short-sighted review. doesn't this just make you cry laughing, thinking about the average sinisterine? we're not exactly teetotal, from what i can gather. we even have our own booze explosion, though admittedly a female one. so nyah. Sinister: Birthday Treat

Well, isn't it grand, a birthday and I get my voice on the same day! It's all a bit strange though, a bit like taking your first dive - you know once you've done it you'll do it over and over again and enjoy it very much, but the first time's still a bit nerve-wracking. Don't want to make a fool of myself. Like, do I put Sinister: in the title? Or is that done for me? OBLIGATORY BIT ABOUT HOW I GOT INTO B&S 18 months ago, Storm FM, Manchester - DJed once a week 2am to 7am, real graveyard-zone stuff, but it means you can play what you want and GMAFHID was on regular rotation. Grew from there. SOCKS Personally, I prefer black. At school, we used to say that wearing red socks was a sign of sexual frustration. I've been put off bright colours ever since. Don't want to give the wrong impression or anything. Knee highs are also good, especially now that our two-month summer allocation has been all used up. I find the longer they are, the less chance there is of chills (when you're sitting down) in the gappy bit before your trousers start. Finally, can I say how much your emails cheer me up (and more often than not make me giggle) during the long, dull daily grind? Thank you. i know im a bit late, but i'm a-jumpin' on this headings bandwagon: BOWLIE TOO got my tix yesterday. yay or something. well, when i say "got", i mean they arrived in my sweaty little palms yesterday, i actually bought them, like, *aaaaaages* ago (i think it must have been late december back in '63. it was a very special time for me, y'know) anyway, i was reading all the "instructions" on the back and it said "keep in a cool place". so i left them on my bedside locker, between a black beret and a miles davis cd. i hope that keeps 'em happy.......... THE 70's WHO i was reading keith moons biography last week while i was sick. it was really good, but it kinda spoiled it for me, knowing the end an' all. who'd have thought that poor old moonie, sharply dressed cutie that he was, was eventually going to sprout some rather unfortunate facial hair and think nothing of hanging about with men who think corkscrew perms and fringed waistcoats are THE last word in fashion, eh? incidentally, our own RICHARD HEALY broke his foot whilst expressing himself through the medium of dance to "sister disco" by THE 70's WHO at a so-called "indie disco" last weekend. he must have *really* been getting jiggy with it, eh kids? THE 60's WHO are the new 70's who, if you ask me. Sinister: The Golden Treasury of Drug-Addled Nonsense

People tend to forget that the Beatles crammed a lot into their few years together. Their crap 70s period started in about 1966. Besides which, I like it when bands have a crap 70s period. They're often perfectly OK, it's just that some of the excitement has gone, which is reflected in the reviews from the time, which in turn get treated as BIBLICAL TRUTH and humanity spends the rest of eternity thinking everyhting was crap in the 70s. Plus the junk was kicking in. I've noticed people are a bit wary about admitting to liking the Beatles. I've been to that Beatles shop too. It was in the pre-CD era. They had Bulgarian editions of George Harrison albums, and a button badge of John and Yoko as nature intended. There was a lot of talk about Johnny Marr and Oasis, but no one mentioned Noel's new haircut. Blimey! Hope it catches on. I'm looking forward to the Exeter picnic. For me, Exeter will always be the epicentre of my sinister inner landscape because of all the fantastic listees that come from there: Duke of Harringay, Alistair Fitchett and Piezoleptic Unit to name but three. Plus the human whoopee cushion, Adrian Evans, and Ted Hopkins. Do you think we should put an age limit on boasting about drinking on the list? I think 14 would be about right. Of course, Ted Hopkins would be exempt from any ruling. Hey! Exempt from any ruling! Get it? That was an accident. THAILAND NEWS: an elephant called "Motola" is receiving treatment after stepping on a land mine on August 15th, but they need some more money. In the end, I did watch a bit of that Benicassim festival programme. No Arab Strap, but Damon from Blur was wearing a t-shirt with the word "NORTHY" written on it, and Brett from Suede did a bit of lassooing with his microphone.They both did that thing where singers hold their microphone out so that the ecstatic crowds can sing along. I wonder why they do that? Does it make them feel less ALONE? Is it lesson 46 on Rockschool? Or are they demented? If anyone ever does that to me, I'm going to shove their microphone so far up their arse that we all get to hear the amplified sound of a ruptured spleen. Mercury Rev were on it. I don't think their singer's ever going to get the chance to be a deserter, to be honest. The contrast between this whining ninny and the partcipants in the world 100 m dash championships earlier in the evening was more than my fragile mind could take. The wobbleboard was missing too. The guitarist was good though, he's a rockabilly rebel, from head to toe, gotta keep a-rocking everywhere he go, everybody come join in, we're good company, be a real cool cat, be a rockabilly rebel like he. Well, that was the message I was getting anyway. I think I must have been attacked by a cross between a mosquito and a woodpecker.
