Sinister: is there something you're not telling me?

well? do i have a sign on my back saying 'weirdoes walk this way'? what is it with me and london? i mean, the city is tops, but all these crazy folk that come up and start talking to me... i was on the bus on the way to the allotment today, dreaming about picking zuchinni flowers and shallow frying them in light olive oil, before adding them to my freshly prepared cep tortillini, when a bloke with a quiff the size of egypt (i've always associated quiffs and egypt - not sure why) and a big bad badge saying 'IRA' came up and sat next to me on the bus, with his matching anorak, shirt, trousers and shoes. i moved up (as one does) and he seemed to ignore the free seat i'd offered him and squeezed up as tight to me as he could. i ignored him. then he looked at me in a very pointed way, and coughed. in my ear. at point blank range. very loudly. four times. well, this was a bit much, so i squeezed further into the corner in order to get away from this obviously deranged creature. but did this work? oh no. he then proceeded to turn his head and try to read what it said on the front of my jumper, out loud in an amplified voice. at least, that's what i assume he was doing - the writing's in japanese, and so i must confess i have troubles reading it myself. but he wasn't deterred, oh no. in the end i got off five stops before my one, and walked the rest of the way to the allotment - better that than him ask me what i thought of the IRA, hear my allegedly posh accent and beat the shit out of me. actually, i think i get posh-bashed even more than i get queer-bashed... seeing as i'm not really either of the two i suppose it's quite funny. but not in a haha way. it reminded me of the time i was on the tube to heathrow, and in a hurry, and a bloke with a chestlength beard and handlebar moustache, sporting a superman t-shirt (you know, the tight fitting ones that make you look like superman, oh yes they do), a luminous green baseball cap (backwards) with 'NY' emblasoned across it and a pair of skintight red lycra shorts (and nothing underneath), oh and some jesus sandals came up to me on the tube and said (i quote) 'you know when the funny thing is and some people don't like it and there was one time where the man tried to kiss me and i said "no that's not it you don't understand" and the beautiful ladies they sometimes say yes but sometimes they don't and can i sit on your lap?' to which i replied, 'no, i hurt it playing football'. which was quite a good answer, i suppose. maybe it was lee 'scratch' perry... was anyone else confused by all that portuguese yesterday? the only thing i could work out was that it was all about god and was quoting from the bible a lot... or i think so. it might just have been a recipe for cabbage and potato soup. does the lovely posh-party envying arantxa happen to speak portuguese as well as spanish? or anyone? because it'd be nice to know what it all meant. anyway, that's about it for the moment. i'll see you all tomorrow at the betsy trotwood. i'll be the one having my face eaten :) love Marcus XXX +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". First of all, many thanks to Oon the Loon, Oxo Pam and Steady Mike for the enormous pile of goodies that arrived yesterday. Thailand must be a very strange country indeed. Older listeners will recall that I once got a letter written on a child's birthday party invitation. Oon has written to me on a small piece of paper with a picture of her dinner in the top corner. And I've always wanted a pissing boy. I put the paper in the bag with the pissing boy, but the the pissing boy pissed on it, so now it's all blurred. Pam and Mike have plied me with pop and publications. This is splendid, splendid! Unfortunately, my gramaphone has gone to the mender's, but it should be back on Friday. And the band played believe it if you like. But anyway, thank you, thank you and thank you. "What strange friends you've got" said Mrs Sister Disco. "Yes, and the worst part is, I've never even met them" I replied. I see the original Mad Dog's out of prison. Perhaps we should let him have his name back. I thought Mad Dog had been shot in a phone box ages ago. Perhaps the paper's got it wrong. Welcome to the world Lennon Gallagher! I'm an Englebert Humperdink fan myself. Also, thanks for the Astor Piazzolla information. The other day I came across a character called Paul the Deacon. Have I mentioned that already? I think it was during my lost weekend. Mark, is your mum coming to the San Sebastian film festival? More films than you can shake a stick at, and loads of poncey people poncing about. Where else can you watch a 240 minute television documentary series in one sitting? Are "The Foxgloves" Chris and Tim? If so, they should change their name to "Christopher Timothy", get a few old biddies in. My mum says books are a fire risk. I think there's a song in there somewhere. Supposedly I look like Biancaaaa, Shirley Manson and Bart Simpson (a boy told me that, boys pah!, supposedly he fancied me too, they're weird). Yay last day at work this week - and I've found somewhere to live. Thankfully we've managed to find things to do for our lost weekend. Anyone with ideas for the sunday can shout them out over my lionel Ritchie tape during the picnic. I hope that everyone has managed to arrange accommodation and is looking forward to it. Sinister: Baptiste of Fire.

Esme asked about Baptiste (the pop band). Well, I went to puny-versity in Naaarch (Norwich, to most, except kissing cousins) with Wayne, the lead singer. He lives in London, Ealing in fact (just moved). By chance I saw him recently at Uncle Bob's Wedding Reception, the first time in a long time. I've lost the ability to contact him directly, but I believe his parents can be contacted on (0181) 845 3151. Unless they've moved or something. I'm sure they would be delighted to update you with all the happenings of the boy band (plus a new chick I believe). If you end up speaking to Wayne himself. Tell him to contact me here somehow (or don't if you make his mummy and daddy cross). If you snog him, he'll like it too. Glad to help. In a message dated 9/14/99 6:35:58 PM Eastern Daylight Time, michealodwyer(a)tinet.ie writes: I'm currently in the nursery, so I can't post this to the list, but it's highly likely that this compilation will only be released in the US, and therefore Jeepster won't be connected to it. It is most likely going to contain the summer '97 ep's (DoW, LLPJ, 369), which have only ever been released in the UK. I would like to appologise to all the poor Toronto sinisters who had to be a witness to my sorry sorry dancing at the meet up at Blow up on Sat.....ohhhh...yes...drinking is a bad bad thing....ohhhhh... yes, and to all those brit boys that thought it was funny by fueling the fire by feeding me alchol so they can see me dance more manically...boo to you... oh yes, and there was my horrible 'boy' thingy that decided that it would be a good idea to have a "serious talk" once I was douced with 10 beers....or more...swiss cheese memory....and dump my ass....boo to you too...and too bad that you don't don't like belle and sebastian because you could not hear me say that your band sucks...*laugh*....*sigh*.... Sinister: Its origin and purpose, still a total mystery....

Greetings from the beautiful south (the place not the group)! Its been a weak since I've been home and its quite lovely here. Though, I am quite disheartened that I was not able to meet any sinisterines while I was in Utah and N. Cali. Angelic Alyssa Marie, Dreamy Dan Hooper, and Thrillin Tom Y. all seem to be quite charming in their own little way. Why Dan even plays the mandolin. I've never heard the mandolin (or the lute for that matter). Oh, but today I had an afternoon full of the fiddle. Ahh Mark O'Connor Jean Luc Ponty, Stephane Grappelli, Benny Thomasson and Charlie Daniels. It was marvelous! Oh, how I do love stringed instruments. Well, enough rambling. I'm trying a new thing out with my posts. That is to *drum roll please*.... actually, having a purpose in them. Yes, I do have a reason for posting. Don't everyone fall over from shock all at once now. Good thing you're already sitting down. But I have a favor to ask of y'all. And its a lot easier than the last favor asked of you all to sacrifice your first born. Boy, was that a bloody mess! This one is simple. Since being home, I haven't been up to much. Well, except for taking care of my father who just had his leg amputated. Other than being gopher girl for a few weeks, I have my time to myself and its wonderful. I've never been one for lacking to find something to do that amuses me. So, there is no way I'm bored at all. One of the things that I'm estatic to have time to do is to read. Oh how I love books! But there are so many to choose from. So, I was wondering if each of you (yes you right there) could e-mail me (personally. oh honey would have my hide if you mailed the list. Far be it from me to do anything that would make honey sneer at yours truly) with the title and author of your favorite book(s). You can send just the name or you can even tell me a little about it. Whatever. Its just that I know (or hope) that everyone has had that experience of reading a book that has really touched them, filled them with joy, or inspired them to higher levels (like doing your laundry). Something that you have read that you think everyone should be exposed to. I, personally, like to read everything. Though, I do prefer classics over John Grisham recycled plots with the static elements of a young lawyer and the city of Memphis. Picky of me, I know. I'll compile the list of books and then have a great selection to choose from. And of course, I'll be happy to share the end product with any other listerines. I figure that since you all have such wonderful taste in music it must overflow in your reading material as well. So e-mail me and I'll keep everyone up to date on the progress of the Laura Llew Literary List of 99. It'll be great fun. Also, is there anyone in the south besides Bashful Blake on the list. In October, I'll be a roadtrip maniac going to Greensboro, NC the first weekend, Northeastern Virginia the second weekend, and Columbia SC the third one. I don't know how plausible it is for any meetups but still it would be good to know other people who are in this area.
