So Genevieve wears a pony tail at the front? Is this the latest thing in .ca? My mum's in Canada at the moment, at the film festival I suppose. Torontonians - if you get the chance, go and see "A Room for Romeo Brass", cos apparently it's brilliant and I work with the writer and he's a sweetie. The thought of Scotland being vegetarian is...unusual. I, for one, couldn't get enough of the lorne sausage and black pudding, and have some sitting, imported, in my freezer to spring on unsuspecting guests. And if anyone tries to tell me what they put in black pudding, they'll get a thick ear and no mistake. Life of Brian, wooo - possibly my favourite film ever? If, by this comment, you assume I have little interest and even less taste, you'd be right, but I have got a degree in film studies (among other things), so that thick ear will quickly turn into a cut lip and a bruised cheek before you know it. Shit, Newcastle beat Warwick in University Challenge? Gosh darn it, we used to be so GOOD. I got told off once for cheering when the badge of Wimbledon FC was flashed up on screen (this is in the studio - took a day out in Manchester to see the filming, cos I'm that cool). But the best bit was a conversation between Paxman and a girl in the audience who, as was clear to everyone in the room except the pugilistic presenter, was mentally ill. He asked if anyone had been to watch the show before, and her hand shot up - she'd been 12 times! He congratulated her, and then said jovially "keep taking the medicine". Deathly silence. Rather funny, really. Hmm. You had to be there. Lauren is crossing her legs at her lack of action...why don't my friends phone me and discuss their sex lives with me any more? Here's a little something for you all: We're going to have a peepolice here in Helsinki. I know, you've probably read about this in some "I Can't Believe That Kind Of a Funny Thing Is Actually Happening In This Universe"- section on your local newspaper, but let me refrain your memory. We have, like, a major problem here in this town. Yes, we have a few homeless people living in here too, but why the f€€€ should we use our taxmoney on improving their life? No way. So, here's what the citycouncil came up with: They are going to hire undercover agents who will fine all those people who pee on the streets/in the park/in public. Ok, that's fine. But actually paying money to people so they can legally check out if you're weeweeing? Erm... When you're, say, 16 years old (which I was 6 years ago, so don't even think I'm talking about myself now) and you have to go to the loo when you're hanging with your friends somewhere in the middle of Helsinki, you cant't. See, the agelimit to the pubs in here is 18. So they can't go in. So they have to find some not so public place and... you know. And if the local Inspector Gadget shows up, it's a bad thing, since he will fine you 100 mk (around 11£). So there you have it. Thought that might amuse you, since you're not here. I'll keep you updated. Next time: Teenage masturbation. enough of you naive ea...yes well, i may be back in the nursery soon, if all goes well... i saw two people in my building (near the ghetto) 10 minutes from York University, who looked like perfect little sinisterites: the girl had black hair and black thick rimmed glasses, and a pretty blue and purple dress on and the guy had on a pale blue with royal blue sweater, loose, worn out jeans, and a cool haircut (lightbrown) They were adorable! and they smiled at me too! I don't think this was Teri (although the young lady looked an awful lot like her) because it was 12:30 am on Friday night and I think they were out at Rancho neighbours: i met the gay iranian guys across the hall from me, but that's only cuz both our apartments were robbed the same day...it's scary not knowing your neighbours! Ugh, I found out today that 1/2 of the band that I've been playing in for the past 3 years wants to part ways. Its been coming for quite sometime now, and I must say it is a bit of relief not having to wonder anymore, but the nonchalance with which they ended it kind of upsets me. I mean, we played alot of shows, put out a record and got picked to be on some Maryland band sampler and in the end it still petered out all the same. Its alright though because for the past couple of months I've been playing with a much quieter band and I really like what we've been doing so far. I'll keep you posted... I've been working much overtime so as a result I have more money to blow on CDs in the very near future and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions they're willing to share? I'm thinking of picking up the new Marine Research and/or the new Rachel's. Has anyone heard the new Louis Phillipe record? I'm finally going to pick up the VUs greatest hits and My Bloody Valentine, but other than that its a blank slate and I hope you'll help me fill it in... Can any Glasgow listee do me a tremendous favor and put in me in contact with an Ian from your fair city? He's visiting the states til the end of this week and I lost his number to his Virginia vacation house. He's a cheery little chap with a mullet and girlfriend named Mona or Simone or something or other. He plays in a band in town as well, and he said they once opened for Golden Rodeo. If you could put me in touch with him in any way shape or form I'd thank you forever. I guess people could be thinking of much worse things than sex, although I have to agree that thinking of sex whilst getting none is hell on earth. Thats one of the few things were the having is better than the getting...oh well. Upon hearing the begining of "IYFS" a couple of years ago, i realized instantly that the void left by the Smiths and all the Sara records stuff would once again be filled. And now to learn that there are other vegans and vegetarians out there with tastes similar to mine, i don't feel so lonely in the world. Really though... isn't it strange that there are thousands and thousands of groups out there, but for some of us only Morrissey and B&S will suffice when it really comes down to it? and the fact that a large percentage of us tend towards compassionate lifestyles? i guess what i'm trying to say is, despite the fact that i'm from rural Texas and we're all a bit geographically seperated, i still feel a connection with my fellow Sinistereens. (p.s. what will we do if these guys break up? I can't stand another void. We must form some sort of sinister insurance plan. any ideas?) How ironic that I am finally given a voice on the mailing list the day I lose mine in real life, due to a terrible illness that makes me feel like my head will soon blow up. Oh yes, I am new to the list and mightily excited at the prospect of it. ME & B&S I like to play B&S in my workplace, on the off chance that someone will come in and recognize them and I shall have found a new friend in my city. Actually I have only had one person comment about the music. Scene: Icecream shop with just me working I answer politely to her order of waffles and say in my best shopgirl voice- "would that be take-away?" The lady answers "well, it will be if you don't turn the music down" I reel back in horror, mouth open, and reply: "Right, take away it is!" Actually that last part is a lie. Its what I would have said if I had thought of it and been a little more agressive, I was more shocked by the fact that someone could openly detest B&S, I mean I have friends who are indifferent (Oh! they will be converted yet) but no one can despise them, can they? In reality I stepped back, turned it down a touch, then gave her the order and promptly turned the music back up.I also made sure that everything I gave her was burnt and small. I mean I can accept that others don't like some of my music, but to openly be rude about it in a shop when I'm there for 6 or 7 hours and she's there for all of 10 minutes was just too much to take. Well whats the etiquette on that? So the moral of this story is that if you're ever walking past an icecream shop with B&S playing then stop and go on in and say something like "Hello Helen" and I shall give you wondrous amounts of icecream for free (screw my employer he's a bastard)Actually my sole purpose for working there is to give away as much stuff as possible. Kind of like a icecream robin hood. I can also make these claims with the knowledge that the chances of any of you walking past my shop in Perth ( of the Australian variety) are rather small. Oh but there was one post the other day from spencer. Wow there's two of us in Perth! Stranger things have happened... like that horse becoming Pope :) Sorry about the length but I feel totally justified in having a big rant as this is my first post. hello darlings, ahh ive missed reading email from you all. since friday america online has been completed messed up, and the number that connects me was down. ah how happy i am to have it up and running again. 3 days and no sinister and no mail, though i thought about you all, (and fantasized about jygsaw dave)...i had class today then me and my friend carly went back to her place and watched trainspotting for the billiionth time. now heres a question for all the girls. whos more do-able sick boy or renton? i say renton. oh my if you only knew the half of the thoughts i had about mr. mcgregor...i had an absolutely awesome time this saturday. once a month ths trocedero in philly has this dance party thing instead of having bands. its great! its not cheesy club music, its 80's music!! i danced all night and into the morning to iggy pop, the smith morrissey and various other deightful bands. you kids that live near me must go next month...my friend bryan made me the BEST mixed tape ever. he introduced me to some incredible bands, and i dont know how i ever lived without them. the two bands that i really love and have just heard for the first time this past week are low and catpower. do any of you like them? they rock my world...i dont know why but these past few days i have been obbsessed with sex. not that im having any at the moment mind you, which is probably the reason why i cant stop thinking about it. i tried going running and excersing to get my mind off of it, but it didnt work too well. its awful. especially when my friends call me up and describe in vivid detail their sex lives. its frustrating to say the least...alright i must be going. bye darlings. xoxo, lauren +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: may Godspeed for me tonight...

Well, I've been dreading this day for awhile now. Returning to work and university in the same day after five months of summer laziness. I had to get up at 5am, which I haven't done in, well...I've never had to get up that bloody early before. The birds weren't even chirping yet. The sun wouldn't rise for another two hours. I got to the pool (my...erm...place of employment for almost five years now) and was calmed by the weird serenity of the motionless pool surface. I had to turn on the fake smile early, when not even two minutes into the earlybird lane swim a patron cmoplained that the buoy line was bouncing too much and making her dizzy. I didn't think it was the line...but I told her I'd see what I could do. After that I had the pleasure of watching a group of 75 year olds dance around the pool attempting 'aqua-fitness'. I didn't know whether to laugh (just picure it...old people...dancing...bathing suits) or cry cause they were all probably more fit than me. I could just barely lift my arm to politely cover my yawns all morning. Five hours of watching people drag themselves back and forth through the water followed. Adding to that excitement was a terrible/painful sound track. A city mix station, barenaked ladies, guns n roses, goo goo dolls and the likes. That's all we're 'allowed' to have on. But alas, I'm off to my first uni class of the year and then on to Godspeed Your Black Emporar. I'm sure they'll erase all memories of today. Unfortunately they're not playing 3 times a week for the next five months. boo.
