I always thought the name Jasmine was nice...if I had a baby girl when I'm old and stuff. Or for a cat. depends what happens when I hit thirty. baby or a cat. When I was at school stuff like that frequently happened to me. I'd fancy a boy and someone would tell the world, and 'd spend the rest of the school year hiding somewhere in the library and denying that I fancied him. I remember I msaw this one bloke at school I'd never seen before. I thought he was cute. And he smiled at me. And I was completely bowled over. So I tried to smile back, all seductively and sophisticated and stuff, coy and alloof, and sexy. And he said hi. And I kept up the act. And subsequently tripped down an entire flight of stairs, sending my books, notes and specs flying. And I didn't hear the end of it for a year. And he ran to look over, with all these other girls from my year who were clever but bitches cos they bullied me, and they stood laughing and giggling. And I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole. These wrists are gentle! if I want muscly wrists, don't these people think I'd have done something to make them strong enough to wallop balls with? grrr. Gym,. I hated it. And where do schools find their PE teachers from? why must PE teachers have flopping shaggy perms, and shellsuits, and look like they audtioned for Gregory's girl?? and thats just the male ones. one of our PE teachers was a right perv. made this girl do a handstand, cos he knew she wasn't wearing a bra, and he held her feet up for her. And whenever we had country dancing with him, and he'd take us for a whisk at gay gordons, he always held his hand on your arse. Another PE teacher apparently had an affair with a schoolgirl. I hated PE. my recomendation? well, this flu thing is going about at the moment right? and the doctor on richard and Judy said you shouldn't do any excercise until you are completely 100% fit again. I can do that. Makes sense. puts strain on your lungs, what, cos of all that coughing. So cough a bit and pretend you're shaking off the flu. Brilliant for swimming too, cos you know, water, cold water, and wet hair and stuff...not good for getting rid of flu. have flu all year long. Also food poisoning is good. I was ythinking about taking a scrap of note paper, and writing a poem on it, then printing it onto a t shirt and publishing and advertising my own poetry. hello my sons and daughters of the morning....i hope the new century is beginning to twinkle with the inner brilliantness that you all know you have.. oh, shit....i forgot i was the gay dirty den there for a minute... hello, fuckers...wanna make somethin of it? yeah, that's better. so, you're asking yourself....is there some point to this e-mail...well, yes there is. here are the long-awaited (and probably long forgotten) results of the "choose a name for b&s's new album" competition. well, my dears, we had a huge number of entries, nearly making it into double figures, and it was hard to whittle them all down to a couple of favourites, but i am a matyr to my cause: in third place we have Antti Koskiranta..with the worthy "attack of the 50ft cellist". what a picture...our belle striding over the houses, armed with a bow, on a mission to make the world groovy..will she do it? who knows? such missions usually end in failure. and making the world groovy is a pretty gigantic task. but i'm sure our heroes will try their hardest. in second place..., simon gooch with 'They Don't Do Blue Coffees Here Madeline, No Style' chosen chiefly for its utter irrelevance to anything which is always important in an album title. in my opinion, more bands should append nonsensical titles to their musical creations. nice try simon, better luck next time.. the winner is...the lovely alasdair cook, for the deadly "Have a wank with...". simple, but beautifully effective, i'm sure you'll agree. no clever tricks here, just the old cliche of linking sex and music which still maintains as much relevance today as it did when dean martin first crooned "yo! bitch! come sit on my cock!"... alasdair gets the ian silver star of approval.. and the prize, if you wish it...simply send me your address and you will receive either a night with bonnie langford or an alternative prize of equal value chosen by the organisers of this contest... either that, or you'll get yourself a stalker. that's the risk you take.. well, i think its nice every so often to mention something someone else wrote, so here it is...the nameless xtensioncord wrote the following: >Pop Music cannot be fully debated and defended since it's >roots are in money and the blooming media. Q: how do you make a duck into a singer? Sinister: An appariton quick from inside the crypt

Well, if the embarrassingly poorly stocked HMV at Bond Street can have a ready supply of all B&S's singles, I'm sure a box set isn't exactly essential. But the picture of that lady making the traditional W sign with her hand is a good one --yet another example of B&S's charming way of being wude and then metaphorically running away. I'm not quite sure why I said that, but it's a motif I've noticed a few times - The Boy with the Arab Strap - ooh, naughty! - the little boy on the badge and his two-fingered salute - playing South Park music before coming on stage at the Supper Club - that sort of thing. Aren't they cheeky scamps? Having said all that, it just makes me love them more. Stuart Murdoch is the dogs, he really is. We're very lucky. Unsurprisingly, it was Another Storming Post from Ailsa that inspired this little note (I was thinking I'd accidentally subbed to david-moore-digest for a while). She also mentioned Johnny Depp - my mum had a starry look in her eyes the other night, and when I asked her why it turned out she'd just met Mr Depp, and found him rather beautiful. I must admit that if I played for the other side (which I *don't*, by the way, certain people out there who suspect otherwise), he'd probably make my heart flutter somewhat. I checked out that Onion best albums of 99 thing - who on earth are The Roots? Are they any good? Is there something we should know? Liz Daplyn wrote again, which is another Very Good Thing (/me realises how arselicky he's being, but frankly these people deserve all the bigging up they get, so ner), even if her writing style makes you feel slightly seasick as she jumps from metaphor to rhyming slang to iambic pentameter to French, for god's sake (I've just noticed Archel dropping in the odd bit of French too - see what a university education does for you, kids!)! I think I may have to stop her and Enthusiastic Pamela Hutchinson from entering my quizzes in the future - I'm no doubt contributing to a sordid slide into alcoholism, prostitution and lonely death. Sinister: Wee as well as Twee?

Hi I'm now back at work after Christmas and feel strangely compelled to comment on B&S merchandise, especially given all this talk of "twee" being banded about. Not long before Christmas I sent away for my Brown Bus T-Shirt (medium) and awaited eagerly for its arrival. The big day day came and unfortunately so did probably the smallest garment I've ever purchased. Now I'm not the largest of people (I'm only 5ft 8" and of smallish build). Foolishly (and somewhat out of pride) I forced the garment over my head. As I've mentioned I'm quite slightly built and this description extends to my head which is perfectly in proportion with the rest of me. After a titanic struggle the garment popped down over my head, covered my stomach to just below my navel and I was left feeling like I had a Frank Sidebottomesque sized head. Somewhat dejectedly I have sent the garment back and had it replaced with a large which is still a bit on the small side but my new year diet will soon sort that out! Anyway, my question is: are all B&S fans stick like in their stature? Or am I just a lot larger than my self image? Bless Leaky P.S. With all this talk of twee and kitschness, has anyone been to the Tiger Lounge in Manchester? I'll just have to wave my hands around saying the List Crush is back for those who wish to get mucky, and in a new and intimidating form to prevent the outrageous vote rigging last time, as has happened before with WWW-based voting systems. Sinister: yet another excerpt from the recent chaiers du cinema

i'm only mentioning this because you seem like appropriately twee people and you would know these things. does anyone remember an animated tv series called 'the green forest' or some such? it had a bunch of forest creatures (rabit, badger, bluejay?) having various adventures... the theme music repeated "...in the green forest, the greeeeen forest...." several times. since christmas eve i havn't been able to get that out of my head. i keep thinking and thinking about it....arg. also, if these are available on video tape i'd love to know about it... i just got a vcr. its great. (or grate as the tendency around here seems to be) one of the first movies i rented was Mr. Freedom and so to whoever criticized beck's sexlaws video for just being a terry gilliam rip off i have this nugget of information: NO! it is in fact a complete Mr. Freedom rip-off. and this makes me aproximately 38 times cooler than you because _I_ know about obscure ex-patriate american photographer/directors who live and work in france and make obscure movies satirizing american culture/foreign policy and you don't. the movie even has a serge gainsbourg cameo...that is how cool it (and i by extention) is (am). of course i wouldn't know shit about it if it werent; for my friend ben. who is superfrenchman incarnate. otherwise cinematically i've been all about watching kung fu and bizzare vietnamese music videos with the sound turned off and stereolab on the hifi and seeing how it all synchs up. and zardoz.
