Sinister: Erm, this may or may not be my first post...

Ok, so I'm feeling a bit absentminded at the mo, as I can't remember if I've ever posted to the list. I've been a bit of a lurker since I was released from the nursery, so if I have posted, it's been a "hmmm, yeah, me too!" kinda post, I'm sure. That's me. THE "hmmm, yeah, me too" kinda guy. Anyhow, I come to you now because I need help. Not THAT kind of help - actually I do need THAT kind of help, but that's not why I'm here...or maybe it is, hmmm. what is THAT anyway? My dilemma: I'm in love with Grandaddy's song "Jed the Humanoid." It makes me well up because it's so sad and simply amazing. See, I've always had a soft spot for robots, I think they're shiny and sleek, and advanced, and misunderstood. Humans blame them for things they themselves programmed into the robot. Robots throughout history have provided physical proof that humans are consistently blame someone else for their very own mistakes. That makes me sad. And now that it's Xmas (I will from here on out refer to it as Xmas, because I was always yelled at as a child for calling it Xmas, as it took the "true meaning" out of the holiday, AS IF THERE EVER WAS ANY!!?! XMAS XMAS XMAS, so there!), I'm once again reminded of my favorite stop-action animation specials like Frosty and Rudolph. You know the one with the last-year's-forgotten-xmas-toys? They always put a dull ache in my heart and a lump in my throat. The song Jed The Humanoid makes me feel just that. It blends the two realms of sadness in a tale of a forgotten, neglected past toy robot. With all kinds of great bleepy noises. And nice lyrical phrasings. On with my story... Now that I've heard one of Grandaddy's songs, I'd love to buy something from them, but I don't know where to start. The local indie shop I used to frequent for information and help in these kinds of situations simply turns up its collective nose (as they are a collective, y'see) at me anymore when I ask questions - since I've stopped going in there every other day and spending my life savings with them they have no time for me, not to mention that if I do ever make it in, I have to go on my lunch hour from work which means I'm in a suit'n'tie and therefore not hip enough to warrant attention. So I've had no help from them. My newfound trusty friend CDNow turns up a fair amount of stuff when I search on Grandaddy, and I don't know which one to buy to begin my collection. Can anyone suggest a good starting place to introduce me to the world of Grandaddy? Erm, if you need some shape as to what music I generally like, I like most everything. (how's that for vague?) I am a breakbeat DJ in my other life, but tend to lean towards the bleeps and warmness of Boards of Canada and electro-pop Baxendale lately, and have found a retrofitting of 90's Shoegazing is enveloping a lot of my listening too. I own most of the Sarah collection (anyone looking to buy some records?) and I love B&S, the newest Darla compilation, and Once Around The Block by Badly Drawn Boy is what I hum in my sleep lately, so I'm only partially out of my 60's-ish pop fetish. Oh, and speaking of B&S - my required B&S comment is that I have been listening to "Loneliness of A Middle Distance Runner" on repeat for seventeen weeks, and I think it is starting to warp my head. It's definitely my current favourite B&S song. Cheers to the nice boy who put the MP3 up on his website! Now if I could only remember his name or web address... Well, that's enough for a first post, I don't want to wear out my welcome too soon (I'm pretty bad about that, actually, and may have already done that. Let's hope not!) tis a sad day for Julia Butterfly. her beloved tree had been vandalized, cut two thirds of the way through the trunk of the poor tree. if no one knows who Julia Butterfly is, shes the lady who lived two years in a red wood to help stop logging and deforestation of the giant red wood forests. to be so dedicated to something. just to see it destroyed right before your very eyes. tis a sad day indeed. ahh. to be on the road and working again. the start of the week is the worst and the best. the start of work. we drive. countless hours. winter landscapes pass by through a sheet of glass at 70 miles per hour. through dark forests. barren naked trees. until the ocean dark creeps up to the right. casino lights reflect of her moody face. shadows and head lights drive along side and pass the other. so of course i put on some music to go with the scenery. dearest Sini, i have posted mainly out of fear of being damned as a lurker, but also because i'm sat in a hot computer room, so i'm in the mood for posting. firstly, a cuss to idleberry for spoiling Honey's surprise pressie. if anyone is interested in this still, please email me with 'honey's pressie' in the subject. danke. secondly (this is despite me getting upset whenever other Sinites do this without mentioning me) an 'it's me, mum' wave to eric, miles and loz. and to all the rest of you who aren't very happy but are a bit lonesome. tonight. oh, so here's the news. i came out to my best friend at uni, and he has been grate about it. i also came out to a couple of my other friends, who have also been grate, so things are looking a bit up. next in line is my folks, who i will tell maybe at the christmas holidays: Pops: Shall i carve the turkey? Ma: Wait, aren't we forgetting something? Jonny: Oh, yeah, I'm gay. Can i have some stuffing? Matron. -scene fades- that will be fun, hem hem. my flatmates are still Prime Swines, but i have won the Porn Wars. They found a porn poster (an woman dressed in her best Grange Hill uniform, only with her mucky old pants showing, with the hilarious tagline 'Study Hard' - geddit?) which they put on the kitchen wall. For some reason, it kept falling down, almost as though someone kept loosening the blu-tac (did you know that that is actually how blue-tack is spelt? ridiculous), and eventually, they gave up putting it back up again. there was a bit of a revival the other week, but by then i only had to look at the poster and it fell down, never to return. tragedy! however, they are having their revenge by assaulting me with the finest selection of AOR - Knights in White Satin, Kissed by a Rose, early Genesis! shoot me and do it now. they had a conversation about trying to fit two people into our single beds the other day: Flatmate 1: it's really hard trying to sleep in those tiny beds FM2: yeah, every time you turn over you nearly fall out Jonny: you think you've got it bad! try fitting in there with an 18 stone builder called Keith who's three feet across the shoulders! then tell me it's a squeeze! Lightweights. -scene fades again- in case you hadn't guessed, the amount of news i have is minimal. i have converted one whole person to B&S. i have started with tigermilk, and the EPs, but what next? all tips and suggestions to the usual address. oh, and for those of you still puzzling over my one clue Sini crossword, here is the answer: clue: erica macarthur and eric d. brasure lose their surnames and meet an e-mama (7, 7) answer: america, america. surely that was obvious. oh well, there goes the Grate Sini Christmas Crossword. Sinister: not for all the tea in china

Hello everyone.. Well christmas comes but once a year and this year it's going to be lots of fun... Actually its not because I have a job now and thus I have no prospect of having time off until march so excepting the day itself and boxing day it's going to be a bit like any other time of the year. Kind of sad really. It's another vestige of being young that has disappeared in the last months. Like untaxed pay, which was something I always appreciated. But I am really worried more about having the time of listen to all of my music. At university I always did my essays and assignments to the strains of music. Now I don't have to take work home so I don't have the same opportunity. And here's the irony- i now have the money to buy lots of CD's. I would laugh if it didn't annoy me so much...I am using the last remaining days of freedom til i start work listening to 69 Love songs and the new gentle waves stuff. Anyway there are more important things in the world than getting to listen to music all the time. i really like the B&S contribution to the christmas album. it's very soothing and peaceful which I guess was the idea. That's another thing about getting a bit older. I now want music that is very peaceful and quiet. Shouty vocals and loud guitars don't do it for me anymore thus I am scorned by the Slipknot and Limp Bizkit kidz who skateboard their way round London. Not that i am crying over that. Did anyone else hear the story of Low doing a radio session that was so quiet that the station's emergency tape, which activates itself when there is silence, kicked in? I like that lots. Hello to anyone who was at Track and Field in London on friday. I didn't say hello to anyone there but i was wearing a Hefner Tshirt and an odd brown "grandad top". Sinister: Judy & the dream of... sild

Dear Sinister, I write on this dark & gloomy day, where things arent actually all that bad. I had social dancing today in school, in preparation of the senior Christmas social. Which was grate. I was literally bouncing just before it; I was so wound-up. Its a bit odd being the only boy in the year that actually enjoys it, and I looked kind of out of place being the only person to dance with some zeal as if *gasp* they were actually enjoying themselves. Unsurprisingly, the hard kids called me a poofter, but that doesnt change much. I know they yearn to have nimble feet, if only to kick the crap out of the quieter kids more efficiently. Well, the dancing was really the only good thing of the day. But it was grate enough to make the rest of the day worthwhile. School is hell. I used to adore the thought of carrying out a schedule every day, with all your work planned out in front of you. But when you see the work itself, it just demoralises you utterly. Oh, for the course to be over and the exams done & the summer holidays to myself! This weekend is going to be a little more erratic, fortunately. I am going to see *drum roll* AC/DC at the SECC in Glasgow. I know, I know, theyre totally crap & the night will be totally rubbish. But if I could get out of it, I would. Please believe me. My friend has put me in a position where I have to go now, but I couldve said no in the 1st place. Which I should have done even more naturally than to say I love auntsadie. So Ill be in Glasgow with my totally anti-B&S friend. Hell probably drag me around shopping & stuff. Jen, if you still want to meet up, we can. Youll need to get back to me as quickly as possible though. As for these accusations of darling Jen to be made up. It tears my heart to see a dear friend of mine to be claimed as a phoney. And a warm thank you to Mr David Moore. Its gigs that sound like that which motivate me to keep ploughing away at my schoolwork & to migrate to the city in a few years time. Sinister: The Not-So Mundane Life of Mister Stout

Good evening After a crisis meeting with my bank manager on Thursday, I stepped onto the escalator that leads from my bank manager's ivory tower to the sodden streets of this fair city. As I glided down the staircase (1), my oblong bag swinging like a briefcase by my side, I felt like a proper man. If I was asked when I was twelve what I would be doing when I was grown up this would be it, and there I was doing it. I felt like I was a real person, who could be in a book called "Robin Makes Waves" or "The Not-So Mundane Life of Mister Stout". I stood up tall, and braced myself for an afternoon of conferences and crisis-meetings. Then I remembered that I'd only been to see my bank manager because I was broke and aimless, and walked home to watch Fifteen-to-One. A funny thing to do when watching Fifteen-to-One is to name all the people after how they look, so a bald person would be Mister Bald, and a scared old man would be called Mister Trembler. Usually, whenever I do this the winner is Mister Beard. On Thursday evening, I went to see "Belle and Sebastian" DJing here in Nottingham. Of course Belle and Sebastian turned out to be Chris and Richard. After being let in an hour late, we realised that Chris had in fact been replaced by a fat man with breasts, so "Belle and Sebastian" were in fact "Fat Man and Richard". It was a good nite, though. I got hungry just before they finished so I ran out to the chip shop and bought a box of chips. As I waited outside for my friends, eating my chips, and the bouncers stole half of them ("Oooh, vinegar, that's great. I love vinegar - it kills the grease"), I spoke to the girl on the door. "Don't you think it's a bit crap billing one person as 'Belle and Sebastian?' I think some people were a bit disappointed" "I suppose. I don't think we could fit in the whole band, though. There's thirteen of them." "Oh" "Hey mate, can I have another chip?" "If you want" So in one night Belle and Sebastian went from having seven members, to two , to one and then to thirteen. I was very confused. Let's be honest, I'd have been in bed already if if wasn't for those dreams about obstacle courses. Well that was last Thursday. Since then I've been economising due do the wise words and steely gaze of the bank manager, and just staying in and working (2). If anyone has any ideas for fun things I could do without spending any money, I'd like to know. At home at the weekend my mum tried to fill me up with dumplings so I wouldn't have to eat for a week, but it doesn't work. Tonight, though, a certain someone will be cooking a meal for the two of us, and we can do inexpensive things all evening. Greetings! Hey there Special K, wuzzup Ree, yo James, and hello you hottie of a princess honey. Ok, I think that'll cover everyone who will actually read this... Will someone butter my bottom and call me a smut muffin?! If Ole' Dickie, Smut Blake, Rousing Ree, Inebriated Julie, & Erotic Erica didn't all just favor us with posts recently to make me feel all sinisterly fuzzy right there where my heart should be. Mmmm - yay! I personally think that Ree should be worshipped and adored by all the Sinister masses. Did you see how she artfully styled it so that an innocent beautiful Christmas Carol turned into a workshop full of smut? Plus, she had an ace Parker quote. So impressive! I'd bow down to her but there's really no telling what she'd do with me in that position of supplication....Now, all we need is to hear from Jygsaw Dave, Walkn Steve, and Reid Dossinger. One of those was my first list crush but I can't remember which one. Probably Reid because I could never figure out if he were gay or not. I always find it wiser to have a crush on someone who you know from the beginning that you don't have a chance with. It makes life easier. If I had my way, each person would come with a floating sign behind their head that only I could read. It would have their name, age, where they're from, and my chances with them: Kevin, 25, South Carolina, No way - I'm gay even if I won't admit it Bill, 28, Chicago, Maybe if you keep wearing those tight shirts Jim, 23, Long Island, Go away. I'd rather have a pet monkey than a girl Will Porter, 24, Oregon, For the love, I'm Will Porter - as if you would EVER have a chance with me! Hmm. Maybe this might not be such a good idea. After so many "maybe if you were a buxom blonde and didn't have that annoying southern accent you might have a chance to play with my dog" I would get depressed and become embittered (and I'm so far from that now...) "Well I'm in love with a certain boy He's a simple person..." After a couple of years of hearing about it, I *finally* heard "Rhoda." Listening to it makes me feel as if Stu is sitting there gossiping in my ear. Anything that involves Struan, my ear, and whispering is 'all right by me. It has much more of a personal feel than a normal song. "And on her arm there's freckles and scars. Do you know what they are? Do you know where they came from?" The best part is the lyric of, "And a fag in the morning with her Special K. " Where's a good lighthouse and a spinisterine when you need one? Of course, "Loneliness ..." is still my favorite unreleased song with "Lord Anthony" as a close second. I refuse to believe McMc-eys last post where he said that according to Mr. Murdoch "Loneliness ..." might never ever be released. This simply can't be! (Of course, I also refused to read much of his post after he started going lovey dovey about scenes on park benches. There's only so much I can take before I gag. However, Mcmc, when you stop drooling over that picture of St. LOOSE(u)SEE could you please send your list my way?) Oh - the Sinister Photo page. I don't know who Honey thinks he is fooling but I refuse to believe those latest pictures are of actual list members. A topless SueMi and a Pickle Prince donning a cowboy hat. Pffft! Thanks to Brier Random (who has a new picture on the page with him doing a great Mirah impression), I now know what my name looks like in a urinal. Trust me, Erica, stick to aspirations of having your name in lights. I also know what my name looks like mispelled scrawled across my chest in blue letters on a thin white tee. Quite good if I do say so myself (and I do.) It is one of the best gifts I have ever gotten and is now my new night shirt. Mmmm - the milk ain't the only thing that is spoiled. This is getting long and so I will save my list of what I want for Christmas later. I am in the minority (as usual) with my love of the holiday. greetings sinister folks.... ...'tis me again...back to pester you with more tales of shitty small town westcountry life..the subject line may seem deceptivly interesting by the way but i have probably misled you.....i have finally recovered from the weekends 'fun' which consisted of stting bored and lonely in a nasty dive of a club whose music policy consisted of neandarthal men in big shorts whining about how they always get the blame for everything....but it was my freinds 18th birthday so i had to go and get him drunk....a mission which was succesful in so far as by two o clock he was slumped in a corner wearing a bizzare hat and muttering about corned beef....i slept for the rest of the weekend with snow patrols marvellous 'when i get home for christmas' playing on repeat.... ...it was a suprisingly nice morning today so i took the oppurtunity to skive college and wander aimlessly round for a bit...(this is how i plan to spend the rest of my life)....i discovered a deceptivley small looking little wood in the middle of one of the rougher areas of town....of course it wasnt nearly as attractive or small when i got further in.....in fact it was full of plastic bags and upside down umbrellas.....i stumbled round for a bit and then discovered that i was in fact extremely lost and starting to feel like a small boy from a paticularly grubby fairy tale before droppeing my lighter in a puddle and poking my eye on a branch....then to top it all off i was nearly savaged by a mad dog who i heard barking long before i saw him going for my paticulars...it was like the blair witch project but with a jack russell and less screaming....luckily his owner yelled an undecipharable command at him and i was spared a biting....i finally found my way out but it took me the entirety of tigermilk which was on my walkman at the time(see that cunning slipping in of content there?)to find land....ho hum.... ..thats the fascinating events of my life in the last few days....i promise i wont take you through EVERY event of my existence i future but i had nothing specific to write and just felt like a small post....thats it for now people....i'm going to go and dance to duran durans 'hungry like the wolf' for a bit.....ta ta.... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Have any other digestives noticed that whenever Princess H posts, her mails are ALWAYS the last one in the digest, almost as if she's craving the last word...? Hello. I too haven't posted for a while as I've had nowt to say. Really. I did have a *moment* with B&S the other day, when I was frustrated and moody, and I slipped the Black Sessions tape into my increasingly-more-erratic car stereo, and remembered how startlingly good they are. Very nice, but not very interesting. I also need to work lots or I'll be fired. Which won't matter very much, as I'll be leaving soon. That's it in a nutshell, so I won't bore you rigid with the long version. Talking of Tiger Milk, some of the more bilious of you may remember Kevan Cooke's Catastrophic Cocktail Cabinet that we took to Bowlie. The highlight of Mr C's offerings was a tipple by the name of The State I am In. It was made by taking a bottle of this sweet Slovakian wine, and introducing it to whisky and gin. In moderation, natch. I think I still have the bottle, if anyone would like to take it off our hands. Any listees going to be in Edinburgh/Glasgow over the new year? Hope to see you then, then...
