Hi - you don't know me, but i have secretly been a member of this list for some time now. I've been watching you all from the shadows, trying to build up the courage to talk to someone. I'm very shy, you see, but I've been drinking wine and I think i can speak now. All I want in life is for someone to help me find some information on a band called Fonda 500. I have some biscuits I would like to share with them, and anyone who can help me! All I know is that they're from Hull and they sometimes gig with Salako (As my band are doing at York Fibbers on the 8th of April - come on down and sit on the big sofa with me and Grace). Any help would be much appreciated... I know I've been very naughty in not really having any B&S content, but while I'm here I'd like to volunteer my services as the village postman (unless it's taken). I have absolutely no experience in the field, but I don't mind getting up early and I can whistle badly, so I suppose I could always be the milkman... Sinister: Fly like a weasel

Oh how I must post! My mind is a raging torrent flooded with rivulets of thought cascading in a waterfall of creative alternatives. Yes, my mind is just aglow with whirling transient nodes of thought careening through a cosmic vapor of intervention... That or I'm channeling Mel Brooks again. Either way the prospect is scary. So, I had just gotten my sack cloth and ashes ready, and I was preparing myself for some good ol' fashion repenting. I have been the worst pen pal EVER. Well, I don't know if pen pal is the right word to use. That always makes me think of middle age people living in Brussels who write just to keep up their English and in case they ever visit the states and need a place to stay. Anyway, I haven't written a couple of people in ages and I was preparing to plea forgiveness from them. This is when I noticed an e-mail from a one Lucy Alder which said that she *gasp* was NOT familiar with "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". After a period of convulsions and mourning for poor Juicy Lucy and the depravity which must define her life, I decided that I would see to it that she would no longer be destined to roam life's corridors without the joy and harmony which this Dr. Seuss classic provides. Then, I realized that I actually had never seen this in book form -- only in the movie special which comes every year when we roll the old Yuletide log out (and hope that it doesn't slip from the fire and burn the house down while we writhe on the floor because of the violent stomach cramps brought on by Christmas's traditional mix of good food & seasonal happiness). Does anyone have a copy of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" left over from their childhood? Has anyone ever seen a copy of this book? Am I just giving people ideas for Ebay? Anyway, I checked my handy Books In Print which I have on cd now (which sure beats those huge books I used to have to lug out every time someone wanted to order a book at the store) and found a copy of it so at least it's still in print. *whew* Once Geisel's books stop being in print I know that it's time for me to retreat from society. Speaking of retreats, this Sinister Village seems to be coming along quite nicely. Massive Massive props to Simon for offering to take Sim-Sinister Cyber. However, I was disappointed when no one inquired about wanting a job with me in the bookshop. I've decided to take the initiative and seek people out personally to come work with me. Well, I say 'work' very loosely since my motto has always been that 'work is fine for killing time but it's a shaky way to earn a living.' Plus, hard work never killed anyone who didn't do it. So, I'm soliciting people to come and hang out with me in the bookshop under the term of employee. It should be grand fun! (Honey, you're always welcome to just come in and sit in one of the soft comfy chairs. I'll teach you how to crochet and you can be the shop's resident Crocheting Cute.) Since my personal e-mail endeavors have failed lately, I'll just ask via this post. It's just a tentative list and if anyone else wants to join in on the fun -- do let me know. So far, I would love if the following would come & be residents of the book shop: Jim 'I'm so hip I have trouble seeing over my pelvis' Gilmer, Llwelyn 'A rose by any other name still doesn't have 2 L's', and Colonel 'I hate my name being mentioned at all & prefer to be unknown. I asked Rob about it and he came up with the lovely idea of having a little connecting hallway with big glass windows and ceilings that peak out onto the cobblestone streets on one side and a cute little courtyard on the other. There'd be tables where people could drink tea and read the newspapers/books. (That is almost a direct quote from Rob. AKA Pelican303). Though I do hope that those monkeys just stay out in the fields and aren't allowed in the shop. Unless, one of them is Gleek the Space Monkey of Wonder Twins fame. They were part of the "Superfriends" gang. Anyway, their (wonder twins) powers were activated by touching their fists together. There was one episode (the only one that I actually remember) where they were tied up several feet apart and couldn't quite get their fists to touch, so Gleek got right up between them and put his nose between their fists, and it fit the gap just perfectly. The Wonder Twins were always transforming into something that was only indirectly related to what they were trying to do. Like instead of just turning into two 50-foot dinosaurs and stomping on the bad guys, they would turn into a flying weasel and a bucket of ice. Anyway, Rob, if one of those monkeys is Gleek then hook me up! Oh well, here I've written this pointless post and now have no energy to e-mail those I really should. I'm sorry. Lucy, if it's any comfort you can always stay at my house if you ever come to the US. Laura 'meeting all of your Laura Llew needs since 1977' PS - What the hokey are Jaffa Cakes? I saw someone else ask this but I never saw an answer to the inquiry. I've heard of them before but I've also heard of people snorting a chain up their nose and then pulling it out their mouth. I thought we were going to be single forever together and open up that art bookshop? Sinister: The dreaded bean and men in skirts.

Now look here...just because I look like hell in a skirt (snake hips...what can I say?) doesn't mean I don't have ever right to make an ass of myself by wearing one. (I like the way it breaths...kinda tickles...hmmm....anyway). Our dearest bookworm, Laura, happened to mention (innocently, though, I should say) the idea of a coffee shop in the village. Now this raises many issues...I mean you go too corporate or too indy and it ends up the domain of the fascist elite either way. Not to mention the fact that those coffee oils are just no good at all for tea leaves. However, I suppose there must be some place to get that "Lord-get-rid-of-this-hangover-and-i'll-never-ever-drink-again-until-next-week end" cup o joe. Oh my, what a horrible dilema! I will of course always have a big hotpot of PG Tips that has been brewing in itself all day, and that'll turn your head twice as quick as coffee, no? Well...just throwing this out there because, where I am from, coffee houses just happen to be the very center of social interaction. Oh dear....any ideas you guys? As for currency, I think expecting people to save delicious edible treats when they have a difficult enough time saving nonedible paper...well isn't that asking a bit much. Why my stomach acids would quickly liquidate all my assests, if you see what I mean. Now someone (I fail to recall who and I'm too lazy to check the old e-mails...pleeeeeese forgive me :) ) had said they wanted a store that sells shiny things. Well how would you feel about just using shiny things for currency. I mean everyone likes shiny things...and they're much more fun to play with than money. And then you could run the bank and sit all day in piles of shiny things and swim through them like Scrooge McDuck at the begining of DuckTales. Eh? If not shiny things, well I have a growing pile of monkey feces (someone pleeease take one of these buggers off my hands) so I"d be quite happy if we adopted monkey poo as the currency. Why I'd be the local millionaire. I agree....cars are gay. And with that, he hopped on his mod scooter and zoomed off. Well, good morning all...i actually got to work all bright and early... Ugh, as some of you on #sinister knew on Monday I was a little under the weather. Well I broke my pact on going to doctors and saw one. I now have an appointment for an MRI (or something)...to get me little head scanned. He also wanted to take blood tests...was joking about how sensitive the tests can be, that if i've even been in the same room as a pot smoker it will show up...he's gonna be pleased as my tests will surely come out completely green so to speak. (one would think that maybe this is the source of my problems...) Had bizzare dream with b&s as the soundtrack...i think the dream was regarding the many facets of my personality and there was bwtas playing in the background. oh yeah...everyone should hire highschool co-op students. They provide free labour and a cute distraction from the mundane. the angel blackwell... Sinister: Minutes of the meeting of Up-Sinister Parish Council 29/2/2000.

Meeting 29/2/00. Present : Councillor Evans. 1) Councillor Evans agreed that the ancient by-law banning the consumption of alcohol and Jaffa Cakes on the villiage green during the lunchtime showing of Neighbours was in fact a good idea and has been reinstated following the decision by Councillor Evans at the meeting of Up-Sinister Parish Council on 31/1/00 that this was in fact "Complete Cack". 2) Councillor Evans approved the plans of Chief Engineer & Transport Officer, Adrian Evans that the Sinister Bypass Expressway should be built "right through the middle of" Up-Sinister. This required the demolition of Miller Cottage and the Dastoor Gazette buildings, and also the concreting over of the village green thus removing the need for the implementation of the Non-alcohol/Jaffa Cake prohibition type thing as laid out in item number 1. Councillor Evans (New Edition Party) defended an attack from Councillor Evans (New Order Party)that these plans were insane and would completely destroy local tourism by agreeing plans for a new train station to be situated on the plot of land presently occupied by the "Fox in the Snow" Public House and the Up-Sinister Post Office. 3) After viewing his Triumph Acclaim being clamped in the up-Sinister Parish Council car park, Councillor Evans decided cars were in fact "gay" and that the money set aside for the Expressway should be used to fund a second, bigger train station to be located at the present home of Up-Sinister AFC (The Ups), The Relegation Ground and to cover the cost of lunch at the recently closed (pending demolition) "Fox in the Snow". 4) After careful deliberation, all parties agreed that Steps were in fact, better than Belle and Sebastian and would do them in a fight no-probs following the departure of hard-man Stuart David to concentrate on concentrating. 5) At 12:15pm the meeting was adjourned for lunch to be reconvened at 4pm. 6) No Other Business. 1/3/2000.
