Hello beautiful ones... Well... it's Sunday... I remember my first post to the list under a different name... 'twas called: EvErYdAy'S LiKe SuNdAy Why do I hate Sundays so much? I do hate them ever since I was a child... but that's not what I want to talk to you about... I had a terrible aCciDeNt last night... I fell with my scooter... 'twas horrible! See, I was out with the guys last night; first we went to this place where they serve this grate HoMe-mAde WiNe and then we went to that place called CohiBa where our friend Nick was DJing... mmmmm... we were dancing and did all crazy stuff... Nick played a lot of lounge and easy listening and some bossa nova as well... there was that girl there with the most amazing hair ever... she looked like... mmm.... Kim - bluddy - Karnes Eventually we left and I was riding my scooter alone in the streets of the city.... I had my walkman on and was listening to one of the most lovely, desperate songs ever "HoMeBoY" by Adorable... suddenly I saw a cab in front of me... I pressed the breaks... back break doesn't work - I wanted to have it fixed for so long but it costs so much - I pushed the front break... and I started slipping... slipping.... and fell... my scooter crashed on the back side of the cab where as I was on the street... it was a grate fall mind you! very stylistic... not to mention that I was wearing my white fairy jacket... fortunately I had my helmet on, so no head injuries... I hurt my knee quite badly tho'... and now I have a swollen blueish knee to the size of a tennis ball... I hurt my hands as well... I stood up and saw in a blur the cabbie with his two passengers getting out of the cab... they lifted up my poor sputnik (my scooter) and tried to persuade me to go to the hospital, but I refused to go... I mean, I don't know, can't really tell, but it must have been quite a scary fall as these 3 people looked so pale and frightened... after I re-assured then I was fine and I was in a position to get back on my scooter and ride back home, they asked me where I was from and what I was doing here... so, I told them that I worked in the uni... the highlight of that amazing evening... the one of the guys in the cab made a pass on me... YeS! Now can you believe that? I was all shaken, trembling cause of the shock, my knee was killing me, and he was just standing there asking me if there was a café in the uni and if it was any good... I said "yeah, there's one and it's really good... for the students.." and left... bastard! I got back on my scooter, put my walkman on and started half-singing half-crying as I was riding back home... what? "LoVe is BettEr tHaN WaR" by the TELeViSiOn PeRsOnALiTiEs As soon as I got back home I put on the CD by FeLt "poem of the river"+"forever breathes the lonely word" that Richard made for me... I guess he justifies his role as the SiNiStEr SanTa ClAuSs so well.... BeLLe & SeBaStiAn contexxxxxxx well, Mike and StuartM. were in jeepster chat last night... yes!! I got there late myself, so I didn't get to hear anything interesting... except from the fact that Stuart was watching Telly at the moment... that's it... the weather's great here but I wish it was raining... oh, that was so boring... sorry about that.. I have to go now and watch "Dawson's Creek"... somethings are so dumb they're charming... Spooka-Dee-Loops my dog gave me a lick on my hip bone last night when I came back after the accident as I was putting my jeans down to check the bruises... that was quite comforting... Oh!!! another thing... Just wanted to let you all know that I picked up FYHCYWLAP today at Penguin Records (at Queen and McCaul). For some reason, they got it in today and put it in the bins right away. Nice. So get down there. While I was there, one of the new girls from MuchMusic was doing an interview with Blackalicious (me thinks it was) in the corner. In the same corner of the shop is a wide poster of the cover of Endtroducing, and the one guy, looked at it, and laughed, since he's the one up front going through the bins. Funny. Hello,little ones... Since I have not seen many episodes of Ally McBeal I do not think I correctly point out the Stuart Murdoch character to Sister Disco.It's the one who's always hanging out with that nerdy looking guy in the singing bar. I'm not even a teenybopper and I do squeeeal about Stuart on covers but I think that's because I'm a bit abnormal when it comes to my adoration of Stuart,but oh well,you know,we all show our love in different ways.But I'm never wrong about him...oh ages ages ages ago..I had visions of him with leopard-print y-fronts, (psychic visions,yes) and now theres all this talk of mysterious photos of leopard print bikinis.I dont think he looks 'cute' on the cover,its more the look of rounded cherubian face with secret dirty thought. I didn't read the words cos it looked pretty long & boring,but I gazed at the pretty pictures.I wanted to buy it,for the cherub's sweet face..but 6 dollars..woah..sorry Struanna,my love is cheap. I have a poetry question,and seeing as we're getting back into the poetry spirit..what is 'troaich triameter'?it would be much appreciated.I can't find anything on it,but maybe I am spelling wrong. See,I get bonus marks if I write a poem in that style,but my english teacher wouldn't define it for me,he merely smiled and shook his head mysteriously...ohh! Honey mentioned B&S on MTV. Judging by the address - MTV.com - this is American MTV. I guess a likely outlet for this sort of thing in the UK would be M2 (which is now perhaps MTV 2?). i've just scared my mother in a way only a 16 year old tee totaler can... my mam won a bottle of vodka in a raffle last week, so my auntie Fiona brought it over. we didn't think anything else of it, and mam decided that herself and dad would save it for a big occasion that needs celebrating (like when i leave home)...anyway, cut to this evening, i'm sat in my room having A Deep And Intellectual Conversation on the phone with a very very good mate and Fiona suddenly appears in my room. Not in a magic way or anything, she just sorta walked in......anyways, it turned out that vodka bottle#1 was filled with water "for a joke on your mother" and she handed me vodka bottle#2, unopened... (heh heh heh)........so, me being me (i.e. extremely aggravating to the parental units) i ran downstairs, opened vodka bottle#1 and went through to mam and downed the lot.* the colour drained from her face and she shouted "good god amy, what on earth have you done!" and she then went to phone the doctor!! i burst out laughing, by which time she noticed i hadn't collapsed and she saw that it was water in said bottle. sadly, she found bottle#2, so that is no longer in my possession, but kids, if you ever want to scare your parents, that is the way to do it, believe me! i still haven't got "legal man"............................ only one more exam, then i've left school!!! then on the 9th of June i'm off to Glasgow&Edinburgh until tuesday which'll be, in the words of Ali G's Borat from Kazakhstan "very nice"! otherwise......haven't done much.........oh yeah, i wonder if B&S will have the study at stow t shirts on on friday? and i wonder if isobel will do the "mid-air aqua aerobics" dance? time can only tell... big hugs, littlebelle xxxxx (supporting aberdeen fc and annoying her parents1983) *remember, this is not big and not clever. especially with Real Alcohol ################################# "Dougal, I'm on the feckin' wheel!!" ...spending warm summer days indoors, writing awful subject lines... hello list. i'm _not_ feeling sinister. nor do i much feel like painting lines. /me finally gathered enough courage to try jeepster chat, and found it a pleasant, if a bit embarassing experience. everyone seemed to know everyone else, and i had nothing interesting to say. i'll do it again tomorrow though. even though the bone that was the london picnic has been picked completely clean, i really have to add my two pennies. press delete now. THE GLORIOUS LONDON PICNIC IN CAPITAL LETTERS after a scary minicab ride and a lung-bursting climb up the hill, there was the sinister massive. and a grate lot you were too. there was much gaiety and i met loads of lovely people. whose names i instantly forgot. the two pubs after the picnic were ok and dire, respectively. one male list member, who shall remain nameless*, was quite crap in Nokia Snake, if you must know. 2ktt was unbelievable. every third song a b&s one, wow! i'm going to start my own indie/poetry/cafe kind of thingy in helsinki. after i win the lottery. FISHYCLAP ...supposedly came out yesterday in finland, according to the friendly neighbourhood indie record store. i cannot confirm or deny this before friday though. we'll see. oh yes, we'll see.** on friday, that is. EVIL DREAMS Meredith said something about evil dreams. i had one sunday night. all my workmates were vampires in it, and they took me to a scary graveyard, and proceeded to chase me, threatening me with all kinds nasty things. i woke up before they caught me though. i'm now carrying a flask of holy water on my person at work. just. in. case. BIG CAPITAL PROPS AND SHOUTS OUT TO CALUMN ...for putting the london pics on the net. and i'm in two of them! look out for the boy with the silver hair... WORKPLACE PARTIES IN WEIRD PLACES WITH LOADS AND LOADS OF FREE BEER. GOOD/BAD IDEAS? DISCUSS it's that time of the year again. all 800-900 of us are heading to the countryside to drink in traditional finnish style*** and go to sauna at the same time with the different sex etc. the office gossip will positively flourish in the following days. Juno _____ BELLE AND SEBASTIAN Toujours tres discret dans la presse, Stuart Murdoch, le leader des Belle & Sebastian. Et c'est peu dire. Alors il faut user de stratageme et devoyer Mick, trompette du groupe pour qu'ils nous livrent quelques impressions, alors qu'approche la sortie de "Fold your hands child, you walk like a peasant". A quelques jours de la sortie du quatrieme album de Belle and Sebastian, dans quel etat se trouvent les membres du groupe ? Bonne question. Enthousiastes. nerveux peut etre. Je crois que les gens vont aimer cet album. Comment s'est passe l'enregistrement de l'album ? Il fut difficile au depart. Il nous a fallu un peu de temps pour que les chansons sonnent comme nous les aimons. "The Model" par exemple, fut enregistre en trois occasions differentes et a chaque fois il y eut peut etre cinq prises de la chanson. Alors il y a au moins quinze versions de ce titre qui trainent quelque part. Une seule fut la bonne ! Mais a partir de l'ete dernier, on a decide de s'amuser un peu. C'est a ce moment que "Legal Man" et "Judy Is A Dick Slap" (deux titres du EP qui doit sortir fin mai) furent enregistrees. Est-ce que vous croyez que le groupe a ete affecte par le depart de Stuart David pour Looper ? Je pense que ce fut une chose positive qu'il parte. Il etait deja tres occupe par Looper avant, donc d'une certaine maniere cela nuisait au groupe. Au bout du compte, il a pense que c'etait plus honnete de quitter le groupe. C'est comment de travailler avec Stuart Murdoch ? Super, c'est un garcon adorable. On se marre bien. Et il est toujours pret a accepter les idees des autres. On pense tous qu'a la fin de la journee, la chose la plus importante c'est la chanson. Comment contribuez-vous aux chansons de Belle and Sebastian ? Est-ce que chacun vient avec ses idees ou est-ce que tout se deroule lors des sessions d'enregistrement ? Non, la plupart des chansons sont ecrites avant que nous entrions en studio et sont generalement assez bien arrangees a ce moment la. Quelqu'un, que ce soit Stuart, Isobel ou Stevie... apporte sa chanson avec les paroles, la melodie vocale et les accords, et alors le groupe cherche ensemble des idees pour l'arrangement. L'exception de cette session fut "Legal Man" ou tout le monde s'est implique dans l'ecriture des le debut. Qu'est-ce qui est nouveau sur cet album ? Je pense que "Don't Leave The Light On Baby" etait un nouveau son pour nous (enfin, evidemment pas "nouveau", plutot nouveau dans le sens ou, par exemple, des vetements d'occasion sont nouveaux lorsqu'ils viennent d'etre achetes), tout comme "Beyond The Sun Rise". Nous avons fait des experimentations avec du clavecin, des carillons d'orchestre, et une grande section de cordes aussi. Qui sont les Maisonettes ? Comment vous est venus l'idee de faire une chanson avec eux ? Les Maisonettes sont une blague entre Isobel, Sarah et notre amie Rozanne, qui chante sur "Legal Man". Quand nous etions d'enregistrer, elles parlaient de maisonnettes et le mot est reste. Il n'y aucun rapport avec le vrai groupe, les Maisonettes. Nous esperons qu'ils ne nous ferons pas de proces, ce qui serait assez ironique avec un tel titre: "Legal Man" ! Un magazine francais parlait de Belle and Sebastian comme de la plus belle escroquerie des annees 90. Le dernier groupe a avoir recu ce traitement fut les La's, vous sentez vous honores ? Je ne comprends pas ce qu'ils veulent dire. Est-ce que c'est parce que nous sommes consideres comme ne faisant rien de nouveau ? Ca ne me gene pas. Nous n'essayons pas particulierement de faire quelque chose de nouveau. Peu de groupes qui essaient de faire ca sont bons. Avez-vous prevu de partir en tournee cet ete ? Ou ? En Amerique d'abord, puis dans le sud de l'Europe et enfin au Royaume-Uni. N'est-ce pas un peu schizophrene de jouer a la fois dans un groupe de ska et dans Belle and Sebastian ? Je suppose que oui. j'aime un tas de genres differents. Ca me permet d'avoir plus de cordes a mon arc. Le trompettiste de James avait ete accuse par la presse d'avoir sabote l'album "Seven" qui aurait du porter le groupe vers la gloire et la celebrite. Est-ce que vous sentez une certaine pression ? Je n'ai pas ecoute celui la. Je me sens quand meme menace, nous en sommes au quatrieme album, et on ne m'a pas encore accuse de cela... Quel est votre influence sur la musique du groupe ? Hmm, assez difficile a dire. Nous ecoutons tous tellement de musique. Je presume que j'ai du apporter une petite touche de jazz, particulierement sur "The Boy With The Arab Strap".
