Has the most fantastic over the top "animal" style drumming in the world. hi, Scary Women... Mums with pushchairs in woolworths. Definitely the scariest of all. Where ever I try and hide, they are there, bearing down on me at great speed with the baby waving a mug tree that it grabbed in the previous aisle menacingly at my legs. Very scary. On the buses... Somebody mentioned a love affair on a national express coach and it just made me wonder what it was about coaches as they have to be one of the most uncomfortable ways of travelling around and yet they are this hotbed of lust and love. Everyone I know has had some sort of romantic adventure with a complete stranger whilst driving down the M6, in fact friend of mine met his girlfriend at leeds coach station while having a cigarette break on the trip up to glasgow. Hardly the most romantic setting really. I think that they must pump pheromones into the air conditioning system or something. Or spike the sandwiches. It's summer... Yesterday was sooo nice. I went into newcastle and sat in the street outside monument metro station in the gorgeous sunshine armed with a mini milk, and there was a steel pan band playing and all was really summery and happy. So here I am, stuck in the middle, where dogs go on with their doggy life, where one stumbles over the bramble of 'blackberry'. This is supposed to be the part where the limerick gets funny. We shall see. I am glad April is over. On the other hand, I'll be unsubscribing soon as my email address fades into the ether and I'll be away from #sinister probably for quite a while. quickly, as this will have very little b+s in it at all... i am in my last week of classes as an undergrad. it is fab. and oh how the work now seems completely unrelated to school, my senior show taking placing long after final grades will be done and gone, the search for a fab warehouse space begins and the tickets, so lovely and new, to across the sea, have arrived. i am on pins and needles waiting to change my personal ID info from "student" to "unemployed". :) alright, so b+s related... any news on whether i will catch the gang on their US tour, if I am gone from may25th to july 25th? any ideas? I am scared. if anyone sees them and talks to them, tell them to wait for me... if anyone wants to meet up while i am in london, in late may or early june, before i run off to greece and other locations across the continent, they should let me know how to contact them. i am very nice and not a psychopath, i will by you a drink, if i have cookies on me at the time, i will share them, so let me know. i would love to meet some of you lovely people... :) ummmm... for pittsburgh/near pittsburgh folk, the Ready Set, my little indi-pop project, will be playing on May 19th. I will let you know the address, it will be, coincidentally, at the reception for my show. If I survive these fookin' final exams, I promise I'll never skip class again. Bloody hell. Sorry, I was just practicing a bit for my upcoming trip to the UK...as soon as exams are over I'll be on a silver bird to London to frolic with the Sinisterites. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the academy, and all of the lovelies on this list who are letting Megan and I stay with them. We weren't looking forward to sleeping on the street...and we couldn't use our money for hotels because we're saving it all for Kindereggs. Big kisses to honeypie and the Lovely Linda with whom I will frolic in the Scottish heather...do you do that in Scotland, frolic in the heather? ...and of course to Mark in Lundun, but if your girlfriend gets upset, Mark, I take those kisses back...and Racheeeeeeeee-l in Manchester (oh boy, the flagship Boots store, the QAF gay bars, and two cute kitty cats!!). Oh, and I get to meet KEITH WATSON, the inspiration for auntkeith, I'm so excited. I think auntkeith has a crush on me. Every time she talks to me, she asks me if I fancy a pint! All these pints! Is she trying to get me drunk? Is she going to slip me a roofie?? Speaking of KEITH WATSON, my ex-suitemate had a boyfriend named Keith, and whenever he came over she would exclaim "KEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIFY!" in a shrill voice which was so mockable that I soon found myself joining in. Keith could no longer step into the apartment without three girls screeching "KEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFFFFFYYYYY!" at him as loudly as we could. But I'm sure he loved it, three gawgeous women shouting a relative term of endearment at him. Now that Joanne and Keith are gone, I may have to transfer my screeching at this other laddish Keith. Hmm. Now. Belle & Sebastian! I must say that from what I've heard of the new album (which is perhaps 4 songs), I think I am going to like it very much. It may become my summer soundtrack this year. (Last summer the Magnetic Fields Wayward Bus/Distant Plastic Trees album was my summer soundtrack, no WONDER I'm always depressed) This may be a good opportunity to share with you how I got into Belle & Sebastian. In the fall of 1998, I returned to NYU to find that my roommate was none other than Miss Megan Lehar. This of course didn't mean jack to me at the time. But anyway, we moved in to our wee room in the Samuel Rubin International Residence Hall, and I thought she hated me, so I spent most of my time curled up in a ball in the corner. Eventually we discovered a mutual love of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and things got better. Soon this TWATTYBUS album came out, and she bought it, and she played it CONSTANTLY (on my stereo I might add! Roommates, hmph!), I couldn't escape it. Soon after there was a cry of "BELLE & SEBASTIAN ARE PLAYING IN NEW YORK!" and everyone was all excited and I felt rather dizzy and I wasn't sure I was allowed to go because all of these people I didn't know were going (Brian and Matt and Laurel and...) and I wasn't sure if they'd want me tagging along. Then Megan bought me a ticket to one of the shows for my birthday. After the show, Stu D asked me to come back stage where there was an enormous party, replete with an ice sculpture and a champagne waterfall. We all danced til dawn, then went to the top of the Empire State Building to watch the sun rise. Oh, what a night it was! Um, okay, that last part didn't happen. But I did go to the show, and it was fun, and now I'm anticipating the new B&S album with the eagerness of a full-blown sinisterite. Next, I'd like to say some nice things about WILL PORTER. Sorry for saying sorry." i do this all the time, saying sorry for saying sorry and then you catch yourself doing it twice and then need to apologize for saying it in the first place and then stutter and say something like, "i'm sorr...er...i didn't mean to say sorr...er...fuck!" and it leaves people staring at you and you then turn red and smile funny and change the subject. hmmm. SIBLINGS are any of your siblings on this list? just wondering cause my brother recently subscribed and is in the nursery. of course this means we can all mock him and possibly slander his name before he gains a voice and make a grand time of it all in the process! his name is david/dave and he was introduced to b+s by ME. thank you. you're welcome. Hello folks, I've decided to emerge, like Mole, blinking into the glare of exposure to the list - however warm and friendly its embrace. I hope you tolerate this kind of pretentiousness (Yes, of course you do.) Quite. I'm annoyed, because I was all set to go to the Glasgow meet-up, to find some people who actually appreciate B & S. I was going to bring scotch eggs and pop in a glass bottle (refundable to the tune of of 20 English p). It's quite unusual for me to have any sort of plan fur das wochenende in advance 'n' all. But alas, on checking the work diary this morning through the glazed eyes of a weekend dominated by late nights and bad videos, I discovered that I have to work Friday night and Saturday...merde et aussi triste. But at least I get Thursday off. What a prospect. Thursday in sunny Perth. I know nobody, so I think I'll just buy a haircut and watch some paint dry. Maybe indulge in some wanton act of vandalism in the name of anarchist revolution. Maybes no. I used to go to Uni in Edinburgh, and met all my friends there, so now I've got a job in Perth and am living with my parents again. It's ok, if slightly boring and lonely occassionally. Still, I can amuse myself with music, books/films, daydreaming, cocoa, and all the delightful sinister post. Oh yes, content. Legal man is bluddy grate (?) and does sound like Eurotrash. If anyone is thinking of going to T in the Park, do they fancy meeting up ? I get free tickets from work, but not a complimentary person to go with them, so some company would be nice. Right, that would seem to cover it. I'm off to finish my song about Anna Kournikova, the sulky Russian starlet. Night, night. I don't entertain the notion that b&s made the song with the explicit intent of getting on the charts, but it sure sounds like it. the beatles got away with this sort of thing 'cause, well, they were the beatles. I just don't know... and it's certaintly not fair to play this game until we've all heard the album. Hello people, its been a long time and i thought that i should probably show my face [metaphorically speaking of course, none of you i suspect are REALLY bothered about seeing it], just because i felt like it and that the issue of B+S popularity has risen again from the great undead mass and i never got round to commenting on it in the first place. My thought, if such it can be called is this; B+S make quite glorious P!O!P! and the idea of music is at some level to be heard and felt. The implication of this is that music is an individual experience and thus does it actually matter how many people listen to it? judging by the number of say, REM fans knocking around the list i should say not but thats not to say that any of you see REM, or indeed B+S in exactly the same way, its just that both hold a certain appeal at one level which the members of this list find sufficiently to share, albeit as part of 'communities' of differing sizes [though to be fair, REM have been at it a hell of a long time by P!O!P! standards]. Hope someone amongst the c. 1300 found that of some interest... Noticed the word 'Townies' in a couple of recent posts, now sorry to sound ignorant, having had a rural upbringing and all, and thus not sharing such cosmopolitan language [or if it comes to that being deliberately thick, just for once, i seek information on something that bothers me...], its just that where i come from, 'Townies' are annoying people who leave gates open whilst wondering in the wrong direction wearing green wellies and allowing their dogs to chase small children. however, i suspect from the context that it means those perpetually dressed in sportsware whilst being Destinies Child/Stereophonics fans. Sorry if this display of petty ignorance annoys anyone, or indeed offers the impression that i am but a simple country boy [heavens, Tony Blair claims this folks], but it makes a change from people asking for a definition of 'Twee'...
