boo pop kids, finally got a hold of modern rock song, and i absolutely love it, t'is superb.....Mick's trumpet makes the whole song methinks.....i must admit, i do have a bit of a soft-spot for Mr Cooke, there's something about a boy with pixie-cheeks that makes me all weak at the knees...*ahem*..... it's strange now i've left school, i've got nothing to do until the beginning of July when i start work proper, so this next couple of weeks are gonna be, erm, kinda boring......it's odd, all the time i was in school i used to dream of days like this, having nothing to do, but now i do have nothing to do, i'm bored... anyone got any spare homework they need doing? wondering if b&s will release another ep soon.....and would tony "gorilla cavalier" doogan make another special guest appearance on totp..... *chuckle* "don't leave the light on baby" is fast becoming my favourite song on FISHYCLAP, i think it's superb, i really do. the whole album is really good, although i still prefer tigermilk, i think i might even prefer FISHYCLAP to IYFS, which is praise indeed cos IYFS is/was my very favourite album for ages.......still, i love all the albums, or at least most of the songs on all the albums. even "electronic renaissance", which is pretty darn cool. actually, the only song on tigermilk that i'm not so keen on is....*ahem*....."Mary Jo", which some of you will probably think terrible, but i just never got to like it. it's an okay song, but i prefer all the other tracks on tigermilk......even "you're just a baby".... /me hides behind Honey i'm off, woo, and indeed, hoo amy xxxxxxxx XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxX how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Yoko Ono had two groups; The Plastic Ono Band and The Elephant's Memory Big Band. Rockin' Joe Booker has two groups; The PINEs and The FOXgloves. Hmmm. I've got C188 and it's BLUDDY GRATE apart from Poxendale. I thought The Clientele were going to be utter pish, but they're actually rather pleasant. Spearmint appear to like Showaddywaddy. Have they got a Barry Sheene song? Misstopher Chris has come on in leap and bound. And so on and so forth. In all seriousness, I was kind of dreading it, but you're all very talented indeed and I'm quite jealous. And that's before even opening the magazine, which makes me look like a clodhopping duffer. C'mon kids, pop down to your local newsagent's and ask him to reserve you a copy. http://www.papercuts.co.uk Liking 60% of an album is pretty good going, I'm happy if an album contains 60% material that I haven't got already - Stax this, Stax that, Stax the other, they all merrily overlap. If I were to sell all the versions of "Theme from Shaft" I own, I could afford a ticket to see the new film remake, starring Samuel L. Clemens. As for the ups and downs and high points and low points and jaunty angles of the new album, I came across a quote from legendary skiffle boom promoter DH Lawrence in which he says, "Tell Arnold Layne that all the rules of construction are only valid for novels (or long-playing gramaphone records) that are copies of others. A book (or long-playing gramophone record) that is not a copy of another has its own construction; and what he, because he is an old imitator, calls faults and I call characteristics". So stick that in your pipe and smoke it, anti-Beyond the Sunrise brigade! See if you can guess which football match I decided not to bother watching yesterday. As for this whole electronic renaissance issue. I always thought it sounded very much like an old Pat Benetar song..."Love Is A Battlefield" perhaps. You know when that drum beat comes in, it's practically the same song! Ok maybe not exactly the same but I think we're seeing some of Stuarts' real early influences. Sinister: A request (WARNING: no content)

Hi there all, Im afraid that this post has nothing to do with the lovely B&S, so if you dont want to see list abuse, please delete now. This post is actually to ask for the lists help. Its nothing nearly as serious as recent requests for the lists help, but only me wanting advice on a particular record. Im a giant Pulp fan. I mean HUGE, and I always look out for rare Pulp stuff whenever Im out and about. This afternoon, I was sifting through the back of some 7 inches at my local store, and came across Pulps first ever single, from 1981, called My Lighthouse. My god have I been looking for this for a long time. It was on the original record label that Pulp were on for the first few years, Red Rhino, and the packaging was in pretty good condition. The vinyl was in tip-top condition, I listened to it in the shop and everything was in order. When I asked how much it was, the guy said, Thirty quid mate, and I fell over. Well that bits a lie, but I was a bit surprised to say the least. I said Id think about it, and get back to him. I figure from the 1400 odd of us there must be a few really knowledgeable record buffs, who know exactly what theyre talking about when it comes to rare vinyl. I wonder if any of them could mail me privately (samwaltonyeah(a)hotmail.com) and give me some advice. Its not that Im skint, I can afford the record, but I dont want to spend £30 on something that is only worth a fiver. Please help. Dear Sinister, Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahah. Har. Yes, I am a free man. I don't have to do any exams or read any books I don't want to for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages now. My last exam, just finished it. It was OK. I thought I did really well but I made the mistake of talking to my teacher afterwards and she was like "Oh did you write about such and such" and I was like "erm, yeah", when of course I had done no such thing. Humph. But of course, you probably don't really care so I'll be quiet. Ah, you can tell I've finished studying English now because it took me three attempts to spell quiet (only two this second time :)). I'd like to say that everyone should come to the Sheffield sinister picnic on the 15th July. Even if you live in the Siberian forests, I'm sure you can still make it. No, I don't care if you're in a maximum security prison, you have to come to our picnic. Ahem. I'm supposed to work out when and where to meet. I haven't done it yet, but I promise to all the people who are relying on me that I will in the next few days. When I've recovered from the post-exams celebrations hangover. Oh yes, and I finally got around to watching all the B&S videos on icrunch. My favourite is LLPJ, I think. I say I think because, well you can't see them can you? I tried to download them rather than stream them but I got the old access forbidden thing. I think they should be released on video. Y'know the big black tapes you put in the machine under the telly. It'd be great to see the faces of the people in the videos. Because on icrunch the resolution is so low their faces look like someone from Police, Camera, Action. Radiohead released 7 Television Commercials didn't they? And there are 8 videos on icrunch, so that'd be fine. I hope you're listening Jeepster. I'd buy it, anyway. OK, my plan for tonight is to watch loads of TV and not feel remotely guilty about it. Oh, but first I have to burn all my revision notes. Farewell guys, for tonight. hello nothing much goes on here. i thought i'd write because i've got a whole lot of emails to write to people and i'm killing lots of birds with one quite small stone. there's lots of people i should have mailed, or spoken to recently, and i havent, and i am sorry, but i am crap. and most people dont care anyway. anyway, some content. the new album is something. i'm sure i have an opinion of it, but i'm a bit bored now of talking about it. i do like it though. what i like better though, are the Clientele. they're marvelous. they are living proof that you should always believe what tim hopkins says. apart from that nonsense about the earth being a globe. he's wrong there. the earth is blatantly chicken shaped. i went abroad recently, to scotland. it was nice and foreign, and i ate all of honey and linda's food. then i kidnapped their cats too, but dont tell them that. tomorow i'm going to glastonabury. this probabaly isnt a good idea, as i suspect it'll be full of stinking hippies and i might turn into one. i may try to avoid this by catching the plague. i dont have wellies, but a bit of trenchfoot never did noone no harm. anyway, my lunchbreak is over. i've eaten a range of nourishing foods (toast) and so must depart. I realize that none of you know who I am, probably because this is my second post in seven months. I usually just quietly read my sinister mail. Lately I haven't had anything to say anyway....oh yeah, there was a point to this email. The point being that I wanted to know if there were any listies residing in the fair city of San Francisco, or the area around there. I just recently found out that I will be going there for a few days, and I may even be moving there in the fall. Sorry this is so NOT full of B&S content, but I couldn't resist. Hello Everyone- This is my first time posting, though I have been out of the nursery for awhile. I was debating whether or not my mail would have any relevency to B+S. (considering the distance between me and anything truly pertinent). Luckily, I have had my first Belle and Sebastian dream. It almost feels as if I am entering a new era............. Anyway: I am running in a giant topiary garden with large marble pillars. I continue to run with no motive, possibly just for the hell of it. Suddenly I realize "The Rollercoaster Ride" is playing in the back ground. I start to look up and see all the band members sitting on the pillars. They all have their own pillar and playing their own instraments (and they are all really happy looking). I keep running and the scene repeats itself just like in cheesy cartoons where the cat chases the mouse for five minutes and passes the same window 25 time on the same wall. I thought it was great. Oh, and I'm carrying a red umbrella to shield myself from falling leaves (even though there are no real trees around), hmmm....*chin scratch* I wonder Back to Reality Other news: Since my mother refuses to put her credit card number through the internet I am ordering B+S merchandise through the mail. Unfortunatly they don't accept foreign currency. So I call the bank. No deal, and now I'm thinking of switching banks. How dare they! I call currency vendors. Sorry, I don't think so, not a big enough order.Well, grrr!! Finally, I find a run-down pawn shop/coin dealer who has some spare pounds. I had to lie and say I collect coins to get enough and now I'm shipping with a mess of pounds in the envelope, lovely. I have had a wonderful week though. The other day I went to a Ray Charles concert. He was on a spinning stage which was interesting and he had a big band. It was pretty funny to see him playing away at 69 (his age!!). Plus, my father gave me the complete set of Roxy Music cd's (I don't know if this is a blessing or a burden, I have yet to find out). And don't forget about the new album. (sigh)..... Sinister: Beaches, a silly little story, London picnic... and the perfect friend...

Hello everybody :) I hope that you are all doing well, and that this heat is not too much for you. Before you know it it will be autumn again... :)))) I don't want to bore any of you, but I have a little story. And its not a dream, which makes it even cooler!! (I was a little disturbed by the Terry Wogan dream, but, hey ho... Not as disturbed as the owner of it no doubt... ;) One night in April I was on a beach in the middle of the night. It was freezing cold but everything was ok. We were wrapped up all snug in duffle coats and such. Everyone was in a happy frame of mind. I only knew one other person there, although it was not frightening at all, as everyone was pleasant. We all shuffled closer in an attempt to keep warm and sheltered from the cold sea breeze. The fire was smoky but the heat welcome. In front of us was the sea, so black, and reaching out beyond the horizon. To the right was a power station of some description. Then something really good happened. I started talking to a boy. I think we were admiring each others scarfs. We had a race to the water, and talked for a few hours. We stayed up and watched the sun rise. But then it was time to go home. Our rooms had to be packed away. :( I said I would go and see him before I left, but the time I got to were he was staying it was too late. He was gone. There were two people there who i didn't know, and they said he was putting away the keys. He had gone. I was very sad. I wanted to see him again very much. When we were on the beach I had given the boy my address. He said that he would post me some stickers you see. To stick to my things. He had already given me one which is still on my keyring. It is a picture of Sebastian riding a bicycle. Although the boy had gone, all was not not lost. As when I gave him my address, I had also given him my email address. About a month later what turned up in my inbox... Yes!! Hurray! A letter from Oliver. He was back at University and had access to a computer! After a few more letters we spoke to each other on the telephone. He is just how I remembered. :) This is fantastic for me, as I liked him very very much. I have never before had a real friend who really really likes Belle and Sebastian too. It makes me happy to speak to him. He makes me smile. :) He also likes the same silly stuff as me, like Biology. He is kind of what my image of the perfect friend would be, if i had an image. Yes, that would be Oliver. ______________________________________________________ So the point of this email... We are going to meet up soon, Oliver and me. And I think that we will come to the London Picnic, if that is ok with everyone. :) So if you see a small auburn haired boy, and a very very smiley and happy and smiley brown haired girl sitting together, that will be us. Come and say hello. I hope our second meeting will be as perfect as our first, but with you lot for company, I don't suppose it could possibly be anything but. :))) Take Care of yourselves everyone.
