hey sinister people, are you all well? I'm not so bad, it's Saturday night, way past 11, but it's still sorta light here. Kids is on TV, but I really couldn't bear to watch it again. I'm doing my best to be happy. I was flicking through the Sinister site and came across the bit on swearing. I was intrigued. Bear with me. I was doing a job for my pal Andy yesterday, and I was sort of hungover when I got up, so I gave him a bell to let him know I'd be a wee bit late. You know how people moan about mobile phones and stuff? I've never really had an opinion till yesterday. Andy answered the phone sounding distressingly flustered, and said "Mouche? Can I call you back? I'm doing a jobby." If this is where mobile phones are leading us, I'll stick with the landline. Sheesh. Anyway, my point was... jobby... vintage swear word, an old classic. There's slight B&S content here, because the start of "If You're Feeling Sinister" reminds me of this. I'm amazed that there's not loads of swearing there. The only phrase I can really make out is "C'moan! Free kick!" but kids have terrific swear words. I went to my niece and nephew's sports' day a few weeks ago and I heard the phrase "johnny bag" for the first time since about 1984. It brought a tear to my eye. Incidentally, if anyone wants results of individual races, please email me direct. I have a little proposition... would anyone like to help me put on some sort of club night in the west coast of Scotland? I really need some help with venues and stuff... I mean, does anyone know if any of the universities in Glasgow have rooms with decks and stuff that you can hire? I really miss dancing. I really, really miss it. Really bad, drunken, shambling dancing to The Field Mice and The Fall and Belle and Sebastian and Tindersticks and stuff like that. We can collaborate in underground bunkers and come up with blueprints and plans. Anyway, let us know what you think. I was listening to Hand In Glove by The Smiths today, and I realised with complete shock that the line Morrissey mumbles after "I really don't know and I really don't care" is "Kiss my shades". You know, the run-out groove message on the single? I've listened to that song at least two thousand times and I'd never heard that before. I can't overemphasise my amazement. Is this common knowledge? Am I as slow as syrup? Oh, and I've got one little B&S question... when I saw B&S in Nottingham in 1998, the DJ played a record before the band came on that sounded almost exactly like Dog On Wheels- does anyone know who it was? Sinister: being bitten by a dog, and Nick Drake (again)

***MY LEG*** On Friday my girlfriend's rotweiller ripped a chuck of flesh out of the back of my leg. By jingo it hurt. It hurt ike the buggery, and I will be limping for a while. My fault really ... he came up to see me in the dark as I was getting out of my car, and I tyripped over him, kinda landed on him with my arms out and I think he thought I was attacking him. So ... ow. Walking is not a fun thing right now. Oh no sir ... not at all. ***NICK DRAKE REMASTERS*** A few people mailed me off list last week asking me exactally how different were the "new" Nick Drake remasters (released last week) comapred to the Island/Hannibal ones. So, to save mailing back everyone who mailed me, and because some other listees may care, here goes. They sound really good. Better, but not so much better that you really need to buy them if you already own them ......... There. Don't throw your old ones into the fire, but if you don't have any Nick Drake albums I would advise you to get the new ones, bcause the packaging is really nice, they have lots of photos, lyrics etc., and sound great. I watched 'Hideous Kinky' last night. Pretty mediocre movie, but I got super excited when they played Nick Drake's "Road" and startted yelling "It's Nick Drake" over and over again. Well, that's it for me. I'll hobble over and get my coat. (ow ....ouch ...) Sinister: Fifteen minutes of utter irrelevance

Bugger. I've forgotten what I was going to write. I'm off for a smoke until this work-addled, alcohol-soaked, bowlful of weetabix mush in my head that so loosely calls itself a brain decides to get it's act together and come up with something verging on witty for me to send down the wire. Toodle pip, I'll be back in a second...... Ahhhhhhhh. That's better. And it didn't take long, either. But there again I never do. I would have been quicker, too, if that bloody lift hadn't stopped on every floor. It always does that. Gets right up my nose. But, my brain now sufficiently concentrated by Amber Leaf's finest mild shag*, I will begin.... Um, hello. I haven't posted in a while, so I am totally prepared to forgive anyone for forgetting who I am, and indeed also those oh-so-sensible people who have desperately *tried* to forget who I am. I don't blame any of you. But, I'm back. And it's with the astounding revelation that FYHCYWLAPDGRTBVXEAZGTBKOMINBGVFCCGFB%^U&£$FMNJI<:O(K*GBR%E^%$FCISXVYBNMLHRCWRSXV%YD&HK)(L&G^GVBKYTB^BJU&WHOOOOGURGLESPLAT is actually quite good. Took me right by surprise, that one did, especially after having heard Legal Man beforehand, which, at the risk of incurring general wrath and rotting airborne fruit, I have got to say I *personally* found absolutely f***ing *dreadful*. Didn't stop me buying it, though. Oh no. Anyway, I'm not going to do the "take-each-song-to-bits-one-by-one" thing, as I think that's been done to death and back again by far more eloquent people than I, but rather just inform everyone that in terms of a personal idea of quality, it rests at just about the same level as IYFS. That is to say, above TBWTAS, and below Tigermilk. In terms of sheer geography, it rests in the back right-hand corner of my living room, somewhere between TBWTAS and "Mellow Gold", below my cd single collection, but above the "c" to "e" section of the rest of my albums. I think that gives us a fair idea of everything, really. The only thing I'll say about individual songs is that, as much maligned as "Before the Sunrise" has recently been in the cornucopia of electronic wit that is the list, it's bloody amazing to listen to at five o'clock in the morning after you've just ploughed your Citröen AX into a rather large tree at 30 miles per hour the night before. Not that I'm suggesting any of you go out and do it, but it's worth bearing in mind. Calms your nerves superbly, and near enough makes you forget that by rights you should be dead. Well, until that jingly bit at the end, that is, when the whole world comes back into focus and you start worrying about ringing your insurance company again. Still, it did wonders for a short while. That's enough of that, I think. Sinister: the weirdness of my life.

Sinister: is it wrong to want to live on your own

hullo. Ive had the strangest day. I clocked in at work at 6.56, 4 minutes early, then spent the rest of the day having petty arguments with a colleague and being far too busy. Nick Dastoor materialised briefly, adding to my confusion. Come 2pm I was ready to go live in a camper van in South Shields. Walking home, there was nothing except a few stray feather boa feathers to suggest what awaited me. I climbed the stairs, and entered my room. A transsexual whirlwind has struck whilst I was working. Fake eyelashes, lipglossy emphemera and stockings littered the floor. Slowly, I began to recall that my flatmate had asked me if I minded her friends changing in my room. No, thats fine I had replied, not realising that it was their sex they were changing. I know that it was the work of drag queens, because theyd left their bus pass by the window. The photo was of a rather dull looking young man. Drag queens are fundamentally different from gay boys; gay boys tidy up before they leave, so i had to tidy a little. Anyhow, by this point I was rather hungry, so I descended into the kitchen. Once more opening the door was a surprise. Upon our dishwasher that cunningly doubles as a table and storage, was some kind of buffet. Dips, quiche, party eggs and tomato flowers greeted me. I was made up, for sure. Many empty wine bottles were on the sideboard. Thats my day so far. Bloody bizarre. Everyone else has gone to Mardi Gras, and Id love to be there. i don't know if i can bear to hear all that lovely pop music and not be able to go see it. i can't close the windows in this bloody weather though. on an actually serious note though, there was a feature on the telly last night on how Copeland made the Soho bomb, and i personally think that, on the eve of Pride and Mardi Gras, this is perhaps bad timing. Anyway. Im looking forward to the queens coming back here later. Ive not met a drag queen yet. Im a bit jealous of their make-up collections, truth told. Im sure there should be a better reason to write. This is the second time in as many days that Ive done this. Wow, theres a BUFFET in my kitchen and DRAG QUEENS in my bedroom. Could I really ask for more? Hello I'm going to take these first few lines to complain (lord knows I don't do that nearly enough) about the fact that American MTV seems to be the only one that doesn't show any B+S videos. I feel very deprived. I don't eve think our M2, which claims to play only videos all the time, if you could call them that, even shows them. Okay, that was it, I won't be whine any more. Goodness, this is my second post in two weeks! If you don't watch out you all might know who I am after awhile....no, I'll go back into my whole again soon. I just wanted to abuse the list once more before I go and ask if there are any listies in the Seattle area. You may have seen my last post, asking about any in the San Fran area, well, I'm at it again. Its just TOO convenient! So, if there is anyone that would like to entertain two young and vibrant girls (what, is this turning into a personal?) during the week of July 8th through the 15th, I'd like to hear from you. Now I feel obligated to put something worthwhile in here. But I won't, because I heard something about a 15 minute time limit, and I've already wasted 14 minutes in list abuse alone...I"m saving the other minute for spell check...but perhaps next time?
