Hello. A strange inner force drives me yet again to pop my head up above the parapets and mail to the list. I have had a strangely good couple of days since I last posted - had a bit of a fling with a girl I work with and quite a nice week at work thus far. Spent a peculiar hour with my psychotherapy supervisor yesterday after lunch where we chatted about my patient - the more we chatted the more this otherwise quite pleasant patient became something of a grotesque. There is no innocence in psychoanalyis. I saw the patient before I started work today and I think it was all for the good - my chat had encouraged me to be a little more proactive and it seemed as if things went well. Perhaps I am having fantasies of salvation - there could be something to this mumbo-jumbo after all. Do people like London? I am not sure whether I am bored or not. Two of my friends whom I trained with have just got their (nurse) girlfriends pregnant - one is going to have a termination and the other is going to settle down with her. Both of them are completely battered by life at present - twentysomething is great when you have a bit of money but, as always, something stitches you up - although obviously they are in a large part responsible for 'the state they are in'. The reason I write this is that the one who is not settling down is thinking of fleeing and setting up a new life somewhere - where do you recommend? I am all for Glasgow as there are lots of beautiful Indian girls with Scottish accents. I think this is a good thing and probably quite close to what heaven is like, although I am no theologian. I guess the danger with moving is that one has to have the right reasons - I suppose we all try to recreate the past (for me this would be when I was 20/21 as an undergraduate) and there is a risk that one misconstrues geography for autobiography. Unlike Dr Who we can travel in space but not time. I'm not sure quite what I am saying here - I suppose as Wayne Campbell said 'live in the now dude'. (or was it Garth?) I have been scanning poor schizophrenic's brains most of the day but will try to pop into Woolies on the way home to buy some blank tapes to record some B+S and Tindersticks for my friend. Although the latter may be a little depressing... A chap called Alisdair e-mailed me with a question - I hope this is a sort of answer and I am eager to learn who Trouse is? For what it is worth I quite like Electronic Renaissance - a homage. Quite funny. For good health and greater happiness read Evelyn Waugh. Sheffield isn't in the Midlands, you know. It's in the North. I recently read that "deja vu" is usually the result of brain disease. This makes the list even more disturbing than usual. Didn't we have a flurry of sympathy for the victims of some festival crowd incident before? They weren't on the list either. But Duke of Harringay was. Duke has come off his bike. In a bid to make it even more B&S, he nearly ploughed into the vicar. Details can be found at the increasingly entertaining web corner http://www.tangents.co.uk Perhaps a flurry of sympathy for Duke's grazed arse would be in order. Get well soon, Duke! I don't know anything about clubs in Barcelona, except that they don't let members of ethnic minorities in. I don't know much about record shops either. There's one in Castelldefels that proudly advertises Laser Discs though. In neon, no less. But if there's a picnic I want to go. Where is Mister Jordi? Can we have the picnic somewhere air-conditioned? Jason (happy birthday Big Tackle) was worrying about not having done enough teenage things. Don't worry Jason, nobody does teenage things. Some people start pretending they did when they approach thirty, but they just sat in watching telly as well. Apparently all great pop makes you feel like you're sixteen. In other words, all great pop makes you feel like a miserable moping drip watching the telly. That was a thinly veiled attack on Tim Popkins, to go with Nick's thinly veiled reference to "fatties" the other day. Besides Jason, you shouldn't worry. By the time you're old, death will have been eradicated and there'll be loads of new ages to get to know and enjoy. It is nice to finally get some sleep after having 20 frat boys across the street with their HONK IF YOU ARE CANADIAN sign on Canada Day. I am feeling resentement for living in the city during summer right now.I yearn for a summer cottage where you just jump two feet off the porch and into the lake...sob sob sob So who has won the Isobel Campbell lookalikey contest yet? Can we have a StuD (Yes I know he's with Looper) lookalikey contest then,to be fair? I'll even arrange and pay for everything.Maybe we can double with Andy Flynn and his deliciously rotund-behinded bride. Oh! Did you know all of B&S's videos can be viewed on that icrunch.com site. Is this old news? It was nice to see all of those videos,even though it's kind of hard to distinguish whats what.Is that Struan in the LLPJ video who gets his skintight muscle t-shirt painted over with a line? Maybe if I hadn't just woken up. It's the second day in a row that I slept till almost 11 am. Blah Blah....that's all I hear from my parents and family these days....oh and the occasional....why aren't you doing something with your life? Or You need therapy (my brothers fav) or what about that talk we had about antidepressants...have you thought about it? Oh shove off.....that's what I say....actually I just say that to my brother. I have actually the past few days talked to my parents. I hit a point last week when I realized that I actually am depressed and have never been so badly so...ever. I can't even force a smile....I can't even function on a normal day to day level. And I think I have made myself this way...like I have used it as an excuse to hermit away inside. I have been able to fake it for a long time. But now I just can't fake being happy. Oh my......enough on that. Except that I wasting my summer away and my solace is in the Belle and Sebastian song....yes on everyone's least fav album. which might I plug here for a sec. I like TBWTAS. I really do. I like Tigermilk and Sinister and all the EP's except for Legal Man (don't be mad I just don't and I'm sorry). Infact I like them all for there own beauty..there are definitely songs that I thank God we have the technology of the skip button. But I like "I spent the summer wasting" it's nice. So hmm....I don't know what else I can say. I'm sure there are many other things but I have lost my motivation. I'm going to cut my hair now. Please all be lovely and nice to animals...take time to smile and hold doors open for old people. hee hee, mouche your sports day tale made me laugh outloud (quite quietly as am at work, and pretending to be good), but i think it's such a nice thing to laugh in the morning, when you don't quite know what the day will bring... aaw viva le underdog clutching his shoe... i really miss sports day actually - the joy of egg and spoon, and sack race. sigh. potential horror of parents in mums and dads races. (jumpers for goal posts etc....) aaw i'm afrwaid (ooh i like that spelling) that i can't stop myself any longer from listing my fold your child top ten oreleven? - but anyway, please feel free to scroll, here they are: 1. woman's realm (golden golden b&s) 2. the model (the strings at the end... make my heart feel fluttery) 3. don't leave the light on baby ('cause i keep seeming to have bloody stupid days, butthen i'll put this on as i walk over the river (on a bridge obvoiusly), and actually quite love that i have bloody stupid days, and i can feel the wind in my hair and i'm going home...) 4.there's too much love to go around (for the 'i could dance all night just like a soulboy / but you know i'd rather drag myself across the dance floor' - standing in a bar on sat. night, too hungover to drink, no air con, full of shirts and skirts... and that's what i thought of... Sinister: barcelona + thank god for trumpets

hello it's been over a year since i've posted so i thought i'd have a go at it now it's so quiet on the list... (of course it's got nothing to do with the fact i've got some favours to ask, oh no sir, wouldn't do that. well i would, so sorry mummy, and everyone else) about fyhcywlap (can't bring myself to say fyshyclap, sounds too horrible, and fyhcywlap looks a bit like a welsh word (to people like me who don't know a word of it, but any language that has words without a single vowel in them can only be great) and that's nice) oh dear, the brackets got a bit out of control, sorry, i'll just have to start again. about fyhcywlap, i think it's wonderful. especially 'there's too much love' and 'waiting for the moon to rise'. to me those are two of the best songs they ever wrote. and i find it strange sarah's never sung before. i mean, i like isobel's voice, but i'd choose sarah's over hers any time. isobel's voice has gotten nicer on this album though, it sounds like she's got it more under control. as for 'the chalet lines', i quite like it, but i can't bring myself to listen to it very much, most of the time i just skip it. this album is really chris's album isn't it? i mean, maybe it's just me but the keyboards sound more prominent, and they do sound great too... another thing i wanted to say is TRUMPETS! aah, trumpets. what's there not to like about them? there's nothing like a bit of trumpet to make a song sound even better... i don't think there are actually any more trumpets on this album than the others, but i'll take any excuse to talk about them. and what a great name for a instrument. trumpet! now for the barcelona part... me and a friend are going there for a couple of days and i was wondering if there are any listees from barcelona or around there who could give us information about the stuff you don't find in the tourist guides, like good record stores, clubs...? if you'd like we could also have a meet-up or hold a picnic or something similar, as long as you'll settle for two girls who don't speak a word of spanish or catalan. i started to read my assimil book (which dates from 1957 and practically fell to pieces in my hands) yesterday evening but i doubt it'll make me an expert by sunday. anyway, we'll be there from sunday the 9th til tuesday the 18th, so if there's anyone willing to help could you please mail me before sunday? thanks a lot! lots of love to you all, and sorry for the list abuse (mind you, maybe the list likes a bit of abuse from time to time, next time i'll bring the whip!) annie xo +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. hi everyone... well, Independence Day is upon us here in the states. and i'm sitting here thinking.. big whoop. if we had never overcome the British i would be sipping on a Ribena right now and i wouldn't have to shell out so much dough for imports... cos well, they wouldn't be really be imports then would they? I recently spent 3 weeks in the u.k. where i quickly developed a ribena addiction. maybe you take it for granted or even hate the stuff... but i love it and you can't get it in america! or anything like it! i even emailed Ribena and pleaded with them to start selling it over here. i know it's supposed to be bad for your teeth and all, but boy oh boy is it good! and oh yeah, in case those of of you who live in the U.K. didn't know, your Cadbury's chocolate bars are ten times tastier than the cadbury products they sell in the U.S. i wish i knew why. anyhow, enough about sweets. funny thing... i was walking by the record store sorta near my house and in the window they have a big fishyclap display... it looks as though someone took the time to copy the drawing from the cover onto a big cardboard cutout.. or i dunno, it at least looked like someone made it...anyhow that was against the window and hanging behind that there's a big piece of clear vinyl that says Belle & Sebastian and then there's a cut-out of the cover of fishyclap again. then behind all that there are a bunch of promo posters. anyhow... if you look at it from across the street or if you just whiz by it quickly on a bike, the big vinyl part looks like a shower curtain.. and i thought wow -- that's really neat! i'd like to have a b&s shower curtain! but alas it's not. anyhow.. i'm happy someone took the time to make such an elaborate window display. that's really nice to see. Long time no list - my email has been possessed by evil things... B&S Content: New album - I am in love! I only got sinister a couple of months ago, and my boy took it away from me before I got over the obsession stage, so I didn't really think I would get hung up on the new album so easily as I did. But I did. Yay. Women's Realm and Wrong Girl and There's too much love to go around - they fill my head each and every day with beautiful harmonies and handclaps Aaaahhhhh. They make me feel like I'm ACTUALLY IN LOVE with my boy. How about that? The Chalet Lines - an aquaintence and I were discussing this song at Pop! on Sat night over many vodkas. Do we think this horror happened to a boy, a girl, or written to refer to either? Julie wrote: I watched Shallow Grave tonight, and as it was one of the few Ewan movies actually set in Scotland,... The Pillow Book is on tonight - is this movie actually good or is my friend only obsessed with seeing Ewan's rude bits when she says I just HAVE to watch it? Probably the latter.... Merrick & Rosso: Motorace played on "House of Hits" on Sunday, their last show on tv as they've been axed (oh my I'm so upset...). For those not from oz I guess I would liken it to totp or mtv, except WAY commercial. Motorace are indie alt, and after being on Merrick & Rosso decided that when they played on Sun the drummer would pretend to be the guitarist and vice versa as its just lip sync anyway. And the hosts didn't even know. (funny about that - they probably didn't even know who they were...) **I think all non-mainstream bands should take a leaf out of their book and stick it up the networks. Sorry, I got a bit cross then - I can't help it when I think about commercial music..... I think that's all I can bullshit at the moment - I am bored and want to go home from work but have too much time to make up. but on the bright side I'm going to the pub in about an hour and a half for a nice cold pint of pale and a chat with my new partner in musical crime - looking at recording soon.
