I used to enjoy Jonathan David's witty editorials and his humorous game reviews back in the glory days of Amiga Power, but I can't see why B&S are writing a song about him. Whatever next, a whimsical ballad about Stuart Campbell, or maybe a rock-out 3 chord thrash about Mark Ramshaw? The Conservative propaganda leaflet that arrived on my doormat claimed that the Tories were "against all rules and regulations". I may have taken this out of context, as often happens when you only read 5 words of page, but I thought it was pretty radical anyway. Does anyone actually like the taste of lager? Loads of people drink it, including me I hasten to add, but I can't imagine anyone drinks it except to get pissed. Stuff like Stella and Bud is rank, but liquid like Castlemaine and Carling is just awful. If it was nice, everyone would be drinking alcohol free lager all day long, but they don't, cos lager tastes shite. Why don't people just drink wine, or amaretto, or gin and orange juice. It tastes grand, doesn't bloat you out, and still gets you tipsy. And after drinking a few beers in a pub, isn't it nice when the landlord stocks up the urinals with pieces of pineapple for you to munch on? Do girls also get fruity snacks left in their toilets? One day, when no one is looking, I might sneak in and have a look. Maybe this time the police will be a bit more lenient. Ever since ever I've had a long summer holiday of doing nothing. Now I've got a job though, and as you could imagine, I don't get all of July and August off work. Apparently this is standard practise, although I'm not convinced. I think I might call in sick with hayfever in early July, then reappear in September miraculously cured. Are there any jobs going where you don't have to work over the summer months? Buona serra amici, I write to you all from amid a gently ebbing flock of white, fuzzy, pretty, floating ALLERGY BOMBS OF DEATH!! They are everywhere. Outside, inside, anywhere that has wind to carry them basically. No one knows where they come from; I've surveyed all my friends. Oh they are indeed pretty, but I've got the sniffles something awful. Lots of oddly pretty things have been happening as of late. Yesterday while out driving it had rained but the sun was warming the pavement by then. The roads were steaming and the remaining water was being churned into mist by the cars. Pretty. Then, though what clouds it came from I don't know, it began to hail. Hail is really sparkly and pretty in the sunshine. For once I was pleased by the ever shifting weather. Now for the content. I do have some this time, really. I have been given an assignment in my microsoft office class. We have to make a commercial. I am making mine about B&S coming oot with Jonathan David. It's a power point presentation so it isn't a proper commercial, but, excuse me being an asshole, I kick serious ass at powerpoint presentations. Though thankfully this one will remain in the confines of the Windsor Locks High School computer and business department. I'm hoping that my teacher will keep it as an example and someday when some other kid is doing his/her commercial project they will see it and think "This is not only a powerpoint presentation of absolutely staggering brilliance, but this band sounds awesome. I will check them out." Perhaps I could make that into a subliminal message...mwahahaaaaa Also, I have just seen the cover of the new single. Surely this calls for a celebratory toga party. I've never been to one, but my friend has. It yielded some excellent pictures. I am currently obsessed with making a cd called "No Cohesion" I want to see if a cd can still work if the songs on it a largely unrelated and no attention is paid to putting them in a particularly flattering order. Will it still be pleasing if each song is a bit of a jolt from the one before it? I imagine it can and will, beautiful chaos, like life. Oh and I've started official work on that oil painting I was so worried about a while back. I actually ended up illustrating a bit from Peter Carter's Judy story. I have saved all the mails I got suggesting other works of literature and plan on looking into them over the summer. If this lack of cohesion thingy works out alright I could send it to those people as a show of gratitude. When I actually do it. I'm pretty good with ideas, it just takes me a while to get to their realization sometimes. I liked gordon's last post. Is that all from me? I certainly hope so. I love you all. Those irritated by Jubilant UK fans who can't stop going on about it should note that, searching in the archive for Royal Albert Hall produces nearly twice as many matches from early 1998 as May 2001. Plus there were only about 200 people on the list then anyway. Having said that, everyone calls it RAH! now, which is good, but means that my figures are biased. Who cares. Other things... Come to Ipswich everyone! I've been doing some research, and roughly half of the tickets are still on sale. Some friends and I are going to stay in a nice campsite, with swimming pool and bar no less, only a stone's throw (4 miles - you just have to be good at throwing stones) from the town centre. It's easy to get to from London, Cambridge, and more or less anywhere else in SE England, and there are early trains in the morning to get to work if you're that way inclined (like me). Jonathan and David. I haven't heard the song, but the story of Jonathan and David seems perfect B&S material. There is much controversy over whether J & D were lovers or just good friends. For example, this passage, from 1 Samuel: "...Jonathan became one in spirit with David and he loved him as himself." is about as smutty as the bible gets. Apart from Songs of Solomon, the 'Lady Chatterley's Lover of the Old Testament'. Anyway, even today there are heated arguments between biblical fundamentalists & liberals, etc etc. Enough biblical smut. I learned a new word yesterday - I always thought floccinaucinihilipilification was the longest word ever, but apparently there is a disease called pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. I'd love to be diagnosed with that, purely to see the expression on the doctor's face when he has to break the news. Something to do with breathing in volcanic dust, I think. Can anyone recommend some good lounge music? (a la Songs for the Jet Set) Lounge music is good, as is pseudo-Mexican music and Eastern European folk music. Am I the only one who has a Serbian folk ditty as my mobile ring-tone? Yes, thought so. I saw Le Gout des Autres the other day. It's a new French film, and is very good. I hadn't heard of it, but just turned up at the arts cinema and saw the first film that was showing (always the best way to do it, I reckon). The theme tune is fantastic - very French kitsch. Apparently it was nominated for an Oscar, so perhaps I should have heard of it. Anyway, go and see it if you get a chance. It's funny, touching, and in French. Well, the working day is nearly over, and I had better head off home. It's a nice evening - I look out over Westminster Cathedral, and it looks all orange and Mediterranean in the evening sunlight. One day I must bring my camera to work with me before my work finishes (I'm temping). I love sunlight on summer evenings. I'm sure I had some real reason for posting to the list, but never mind. Hello Bunnies, 'Tis been well over a year, I reckon, since last I addressed this list. I'm using my crap AOL account, which I dislike even more after seeing those creepy UK adverts with the red-headed woman with the psedo-breathy voice and scrolling shift dress. What's she on about, anyway? I've not bought my London ticket (have decided not to go to Glasgow as a) cannot afford and b) would also quite like to see Sonic Youth on same night. Oh Thurston Moore, oh Thurston Moore. I could write so many haikus about the lovely, lanky Thurston Moore. Won't do, however, for fear I'll be ejected from this list on a permanent basis.) . Anyhoo, have not bought London tickets because, uhm, I don't want to sit by myself., if seats are indeed involved So if any of my, like, three friends on this list were planning on buying an extra seat or what have you, maybe you could let me know? I've broken off a long-termish relationship this week, if only due to my own selfishness. I think I want another year before returning to the US, so I'm contemplating a few options. One is to flee to Japan and make my fortune teaching English (application is already at the Nova Group's head office). Another is to figure out a way to extend my visa and keep working for Arm*n*, but perhaps in the press office or somesuch. I don't really know where to go, and I feel like the mostest awfullest person ever, as the boy keeps calling and saying, "Don't worry, we'll work this out." And I keep saying, "We didn't have an argument. We broke up. That's why I haven't called you." Am I heartless? Am I awful? In any case, please accept this posting to the list as a number of pleas to my dear Sinister agony aunts. Am currently in search of therapeutic activities, and I'm MOST interested in my favorite Mark's new football organization. Question: do I have to wear shorts or can I just play in my regular clothes? I find football shorts a little creepy. I'll be the halfback in the jeans and heels. FYI, Mark and Vic, I've discovered that the 10k has no places left, which is utterly disappointing. Nevertheless, we'll be first in line next year, if I manage to stay in the UK. Okay? Okay! See you both and Miss Alder soon? I'm not naming any names, but someone's completely shattered my image of what Honey ought to look like. Thus, I'm never, ever, ever coming to a picnic. I prefer to imagine that all the boys on this list really do have floppy haircuts that fall in their eyes, and all the girls wear cardigans and pleated skirts. Well, maybe if I'm invited to a picnic, I'll stop by for just a few minutes... Well, actually, if I've not missed it, maybe I should pop by the next Greenwich picnic. Damn my spending-on-impulse. Here I am trying to save money and what do I do?? I buy $ 55 worth of concert tickets over the weekend-that's what I do! It's just that I was watching Air's 'Eating, Sleeping, Waiting, and Playing" documentary and so I go and buy a ticket to see them! I had planned to go with my friend but then I backed out because of the cost of the tickets. But now I AM going. Then I bought a Doves ticket that I really don't need but oh, what the hell...they're good right? guiltguiltguilt Well I have 2 more weeks of classes. That's good news at least. Bad news though is that I have finals. I need a vacation! My friend's going to Acapulco and asked if I wanted to go but (see above for reason) I'm not obviously. mmmmm yes. It would be nice though right? 80F weather, the sun shining down on your beach towel while you lay there soaking up some rays (after putting on some SPF 30 of course)...taking a sip from your cool Corona/Pi�a Colada/insert other icy tropical beverage here, waves gently landing upon the sand, while the birds sing in the palm trees. hm. So does anyone know what round trip tickets to Acapulco cost? So I was thinking that maybe 'Storytelling' will be out in the states first...so maybe the soundtrack will be out first here too? In this week's Entertainment Weekly it has a little snippet about what the film's about: '[T]here's no shelter from the dark mischeif of Storytelling, a new meditation on the futility of family, creativity, intellectual pursuit, racial understanding, and the entire state of New Jersey, in which the uniquely creative New Jerseyite anticipates every objection to the director's bilious worldview.' So there ya go. Mr. Jim mentioned Black Box Recorder- a great group. I think the title track from 'The Facts of Life' is such a damn sexy song. Kinda makes you feel like moving your hips from side to side. I also heard about the ban on pop music for a week and, well, I think it's probably not going to be a success. hmmm...well, we've had the news of the tour that some of us can't go to for a while...now, how about some new dates? funny how some bands can plan a whole tour months in advance, i mean i've had depeche tickets for almost 2 months...sorry, i'm not bitter, just a bit hungover and it's not even 8am and i've been at work for an hour. I've been moved outta my cage at work and am now in a real office place thingy...it's scary, there's even carpet. i take comfort in the fact that where i'm sitting used to be the women's loo. i need more things for my little cubicle, it looks empty...i put up a picture of the husband, the kittens and my sister's old modeling picture...oh yeah, heehee...i put up a picture of my perforated friend, he has 43 piercings and this bright orange hair, and i have convinced half the old ladies here that it's me b4 i started working here...i brought in my battery operated pez dispenser, but i need more pez, the cleaning staff keep eating them all. god i'm so bored i wanna cuddle with carsmilesteve...heehee. whisper whisper whisper...ugh, these silly old ladies, apparently my tattoos can be seen through my shirt...i only have two, and they're covered (mostly) by a wife beater under my shirt, it's not like i have full sleeves done, not like...*swoon* cute boy last weekend. /me takes a few minutes to think of the cute boy he met last weekend...okay i'm done. ugh, it's so quiet here...i have to play my cd's really quiet, and i got caught listening to radio 1, so they took away realplayer...grump grump grump...and why do canadian adults think of belle and sebastian as country music? oh wait i'm an adult, but you know what i mean, ppl in authority like...y'know, real adults... actually, i've infiltrated the collective here and have converted a few folk, who will be posting soon...yay. we're all excited about the new ep thingy, and maybe an impending show... the cafeteria lady here, her name is sunshine, and it suits her very much, almost makes me forgive my parents for naming after a cartoon character...almost. i could dance all night like a soul boy, but i know i'd rather drag myself around the dance floor... okay, gotta go do work or something...they finally hired another fag in here and he's coming over to my desk to screw up my 'pooter so we can go run away and have breakfast... see ya sweeties, and congrats to all who have finished exams especially kenbastard... a. Sinister: A Yankee in King Sinister's Court

Hullo lovely Sinister children, As always I hope everyone is well. I pretty well chuffed (my new word for today) that I get to see Belle and Sebastian in Scotland, and to think, I hadn't even known they were touring when I planned my trip. Yes, that's right, another yankee Sinister child is flying across the pond this summer, in four days to be exact!! I'll be bouncing around London and England and Scotland and Europe and the rest of the UK for six weeks of pure freedom and bliss. I know it's become passe, but I have to say this anyways; if any sinister children across the pond (or any American children on holiday) would like to come out and play (or would like to share a pint, my treat) then drop me a line and let me know. I figure the promise of a pint should bolster my chances. Now, it's not all shameless self promotion in this post, there's actually some relevant bits. Okay, semi-relevant. I picked up the Badly Drawn Boy album "Hour of the Wilderbeast" and must recommend it whole-heartedly. It's great, I suspect it may even be grate. I saw my first concert in quite awhile this past weekend when I caught Jets to Brazil and the Love Scene. Both are brilliant but I believe Love Scene may make a huge splash when their album comes out next month, watch your local indie shops, this one will be worth it. While at the show I was a bit disturbed by something...nobody was dancing!!! They were hardly even swaying!! Here I am with my friend standing by the corner of the stage nodding and bobbing my head and dancing a bit and acting more than a bit daft when I look around after spinning my friend in a circle to discover that no one is moving, just starring blankly at the stage. They seemed to be enjoying themselves, i suppose, but where was the mad energy, the joy of the music!! It got a bit better when Jets to Brazil came out, I suspect partly due to more people showing for the main act and more of Jets fans showing up. Still, there was what I thought to be a lack of dancing overall, and I was most disturbed by that fact. I'm also disturbed by Ayn Rand, who I think is evil and who's personal philosophy is repugnant. I just wanted to share that. JENOWL said: "The Aislers Set are good too." JENOWL obviously has excellent taste, I dare to say *grate* taste. If you aren't listening to Aisler's Set, you should be. Go. now. Find a copy of LAST MATCH and go to aural heaven. I'd like to also give massive props (how *did* that word get into my vocabulary?) to Sea & Cake. You should all also go out and buy OUI by them, it's a masterpiece, trust me. I had to buy a second copy of Black Box Recorder's FACTS OF LIFE because the US edition has two bonus tracks, both of which are amazing, can Luke Hains do wrong? Even if his 'turn pop music off week' idea strikes me as a bit daft, I still love him. BTW, do we have any other Sinister people from the Great Lakes area? I know I'm not the only Michigan Sinister person, speak up yea listees of Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, we must plan a picnic one of these lazy summer days. Be Sinister children... ...and dance, dance often and without style with pretty girls and shy boys. Sinister: if i'm not back in fifteen minutes...

so i am leaving the states on friday, and my mother just turned away from the basketball game on television to make sure that i know better than to get drunk in a foreign land...even though it's legal...just in case. she's worried i'll get pissed and lose my passport somewhere and, tragically, never be able to come back to wisconsin. HA! (that's what i say to that.) i just found out that i won't be able to go to the lovely picnic before the RAH gig, as i am flying home that morning. that is, i'm flying home, provided i haven't gotten sloshed and lost my passport. hmmm..... today i was working at the great harvest bread company and a boy i met a week ago came in and apologized for some reason, handed me a cd he'd made for me, and then he went all red and left. i feel sorry because i think that i embarassed him somehow. i was embarassed too, i suppose. laura tells me to stop hiding from boys, but i have to say it's much easier to hide than it is to know what to say to a red- faced boy apologizing to you for giving you undeserved gifts in the place where you work. i believe i'll fall in love with someone who can't stand the sight of me, so that we will never have to see each other. my flat is empty except for a robot suit and a bit of silver shred in the bottom of a jar. i love silver shred....i'm gross, too. i eat great sticky globs of it. i eat it on toast, but i am occasionally tempted to eat a giant spoonful out of the jar. thus far i've been able to stifle this urge by telling myself "kirsten, you are sick." a kid just returned the squarepusher disc he'd borrowed. i was happily holding damien jurado as collateral and was sorry to see him go, but i am happy to have my disc back and i believe i should go listen to it now. love kirsten "that's not a penis, it's a goose." --my dear cherry kong Care2 make the world greener! http://www.care2.com - Get your Free e-mail account that helps save Wildlife! +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Hello, I know this is list abuse but... What do you call a boy with no more exams? KEN! That's what you call him! Yesterday was the final ever ever ever exam ever, and it went pretty well and stuff, although he got the answers to one of the questions wrong. Grr. What went even better tho, were the DRINKS! What do you call alcohol which travels downwards into a boy with no more exams' stomach? VODKA AND RED BULL! Oh yes. Then, when he got home drunk as a skunk, he for some reason re-attempted the question again, and got it right this time. Hmm. So yes, well what does a boy do when he has no more studying to do? Hmm, the boy hasn't figured it out yet, but in the mean time he is enjoying himself, cos basically, a long holiday has just started. Yay. Maybe he can finally see that the Red Bull Dozers will have more songs recorded.. maybe he can even play guitars for them, which incidentally have more strings than a bass, so therefore 1.5 times the fun! Finding a job would also help his course, but of course, by course he actually means cause rather than course, cos that's finished of course. Woo. What do you call a boy who types random rubbish on mailing lists? Go on, guess, answer at the end of the e-mail, rather than blowing in the winds... ding ding ding.
