alright chaps and chapesses, dont you think its just too hot to do a god damn thing? If i mentioned this before then i wont mention this again but WOW andy votel is THE coolest guy around. he showed us all his graphics stuff and its all brilliant. he passed round this little music box featured on the front of the badly drawn boy album and if you turn it it actually plays a BDB song. he also showed some VERY rare eps on vinyl, i was soooo tempted to run off with them. The strange thing is that i reckon he is some how related to mr gough, the evidence is in the facial hair. they both sport a kind of whispy stubble that makes them look a bit sweaty. he gave us a one day project and the best one gets it put on a flyer. sorry for 2 posts in as many days but it's happened! in the dream i was in the cinema watching the film that B&S have done the soundtrack for but i forgot that untill i got out and i couldn't remember any of the music but in the foyer/lobby bit they were playing 'take your carrage clock...' DISCLAIMER: this is not about religion, just hard to avoid a story that is in a certain book, the general gist of which is another matter entirely. "...Jonathan became one in spirit with David and he loved him as himself." is about as smutty as the bible gets. Apart from Songs of Solomon, the 'Lady Chatterley's Lover of the Old Testament'. Anyway, even today there are heated arguments between biblical fundamentalists & liberals, etc etc. says Rob Butler I found myself on the train this morning reading the Bible and taking notes, which is something I, erm, don't normally do. For those of you unfamiliar with the story (as I was), God has decided that King Saul of the Israelites has an attitude problem and goes about finding a new model. This wee shepherd from Bethlehem (sounding pre-emptive, huh? the Bible's good at the prequels) plays a mean lyre, and charms his way into the King's chambers, and being fraternal or however with Jonathan, King Saul's son. Anyways, the wee kid also has a way with a slingshot and after the Philistine (an enemy of the Israelites) Goliath is dispatched Dave's reputation begins to outshine the increasingly jealous king. David fears for his life, and plans to take an extended vacation over the feast of the New Moon (why don't we have those hols any more?) to test the water vis-a-vis King Saul's attitude issue. Being buddies with our Jonathan, he confides in him and they arrange some weird codes involving arrow-shooting whilst David hides behind a rock in a field. The idea is, once Jonathan has presented David's excuses to his dad when David doesn't turn up for tea, he'll get the measure of how pissed off the old man is with David. Turns out he is, so Jonathan fires an arrow, tells his boy-servant (all these wee boys!) to go fetch it then when he's at it yells loudly that it's still beyond him. This is the cue for David to scarper. The plan B was for Jonathan to fire three arrows and, on sending his wee fella to go get them, he'd a yelled 'they're lying beside you!'. Quite what the young servant is supposed to make of these bizzare instructions is anyone's guess, but I suppose it's code for : the single arrow that goes beyond is David's direction in life and, if it were three arrows beside, well, that's Jonathan, David and dad King Saul a happy unit again. What's cool about Biblical plotting is that both scenarios ultimately occur. When Dave's the big man in charge, he gets news of the deaths of Saul and his sons, inclvding (sorry, gone latin there in my typing-haste) our Jonathan. Curiously, the former who bode him ill and the latter who done good by him get equal treatment, when David writes a wee song in honour of their memory, with much use of a lyric to the effect of 'How the mighty have fallen.' Now I know it's not God alone who knows the lyrics to Belle and Sebastian's version, or take or what, but it won't be long now till we can all find out. You can see, by the way, I'm no Biblical scholar and forgive my irreverent tone if you're a fan of thee olde piety, but I'm human, all too human :) Gordon P.S. Evil cos it's a general annoyance, or good cos it pricks a few ballons? Or baloons, if you speak English... Hi, It's been a bit quiet in Sinister-Land recently. By the way is it really Sinister-Land? Maybe it's not a country but a city in say, tweepop-land. Sinister-Town. Or maybe it's just an independent island in cyberspace. Personally I kind of like the idea of Sinister-Land. It would make a great country. Honey would of course be president and Linda would be vice President. It would be great wouldn't it? Anyway, I was listening to some music the other day and just felt like playing Madonna's "Like a virgin". While listening to it I skimmed through the covertext and found the "Thank you..."-part. And guess what, after people named Judy Tint and Jeff Ayeroff I found Seymore Stein. With two hearts next to his name. I mean I know Seymore Stein is a real person and that he's a "record company man", but I wasn't expecting to find his name on a Madonna record. Pretty cool. Maybe I could be minister of culture in Sinister-Land. If I could I'd advise everybody to listen to Aislers Set's song "Hey lover". It sound like Motown meets twee-pop. A wonderful song. well i just had one good exam and one bad exam i wont bore you all with the dtails but i think i may have scraped a c pheyew. im sitting in the library and many thoughts are running through my mind-will hibs be any good next year, when oh when will john squire get his shit together, why do librarians get cranky when you say "BOO" to them and why do we have to work for a living, nun of that fantasy new world crap i just cant be arsed working, ya know how it is. the person sitting beside me is playing some kind of stock game and he just bought stocks in belle and sebastian. i found a really funnin yahoo club the other day called courderouy smoke, totally b&s mad, hello lazy jane. im going to bristol soon, does anybody on the list live there? could they tell me of any 'groovy hangouts' that they might feel that i might feel priveledged to know about? cheers well ive got a long walk throught the rain to get on a bus know cheerie bye e-x ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sinister: my picnic's bigger than yours (or probably not)

So, oxford picnic. Hmm, there have been various divers suggestions, but i think on balance the 23 of June has the most going for it for numerous reasons: weekends before and after are GIGS and thus pretty rubbish for random picnics and the weekend after that is the H-YOU-GE radioheed gig and thus oxford will grind to an almighty halt for the duration. The panic, the vomit indeed. More details nearer the time, but the idea is to have it in South Park, mainly because we can then follow the traditional picnic rules and have it at the top of a hill, overlooking the dreaming spires :) Also (what's that noise) on the thursday nite before, ie 21st (I'm sure I can hear something), myself and various other reprobates (it's getting louder) will be hosting our first fantastic (oh my god, it's a GIANT PLUG) !I!N!D!I!E!D!I!S!C!O! So you can arrive from your assorted territories on the thursday evening, have a top nite out, skive off on the friday and sit in the pub with me all day and then we'll have the picnic on the Saturday, is that a plan? What's that you say, i haven't told you enough about our fantastic !I!N!D!I!E!D!I!S!C!O! OK then, just this once, I'll go into detail (and if you believe that...) S&P in association with freakytrigger.co.uk present: !S!U!S!S!E!D! Thursday 21 June 10pm-2am at Club Latino, The Plain, Oxford, £3 to get in, fun and frolics with djs Carsmile, Cabbage and Cockfarmer on the decks. An evening of indie loveliness, including belle & sebastian, hefner, pulp [insert big list of indie bands here, frankly i was doing the poster at like midnite last nite and i'm not sure what i put] y'know, all the stuff you can dance to... see, doesn't that sound exciting, aren't you glad you asked :) The first nite is also the official relaunch party for freaky trigger, the fantastic music website run by the semi-sinister Tom Ewing.
