hello everyone, it's been *ages* since i last posted, but like a good little girl i've been saving up my things that i wanted to say until now, because i just can't resist it. YORK PICNIC - i know it was a long time ago, but i didn't get to say anything about it at the time. it was grate, me and my friend (who didn't like belle and sebastian at the time, but now loves them thanks to meeting lovely sinisterines) drank babycham and ribena. it was a strange combination. also we had fairy cakes. and the picnic was small, but perfectly formed. there was singing and guitaring and even violin playing, which all in all was hypercool. OFFBEAT - we trekked all the way to sheffield for their very special b & s night, and it was brilliant. they even played pulp's lipgloss for me. but the best things about the whole night were the posters for it that had mr men on them and then a suitable song title, so mr skinny got string bean jean and miss scatterbrain had she's losing it. we liberated quite a lot of them during the course of the night, where there was a great deal of drunkenness. STRANGEWAYS - this is a club in leeds, which we went to last tuesday. it was lots of fun and we met another lovely sinisterine who danced to she's losing it with us. and they played lots of other nice stuff, like i can't stop dreaming of injured popstars and punka. but then we didn't get home 'til 4.30 in the morning, which was really a bit late for me, because my bedtime is supposed to be 8. SCARBOROUGH and IPSWICH - i am now going to 2 of the gigs on the tour, having just bought my ipswich ticket. i'm particularly looking forward to scarborough, because there's going to be millions of us on a bus from york, and because they might play scarborough fair in a simon and garfunkle styleee. maybe each of them could take a part and do it in a round. how gorgeous would that be? i am *hyper* excited JONATHAN DAVID - i got a copy from my uni newspaper, and i got to review it but they never printed it. in a nutshell: jd itself is a grower, carriage clock is brilliant, lonliness isn't as good as the version from the telly. also something else i heard from the campus meeeja people is that they're not doing any interviews for this single, but they probably will for the next one. *fingers crossed* though it seems unlikely. and i can't wait for the peel session. at the moment, there's not much going on in my life that isn't b & s related. *aaargh* they've taken over my life. so i shall say as ever, pip pip, FB X _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. I didn't even know it was him. he looked quite angry but only in a not very menacingly fat elf kinda way. So I hope that makes you happy! The Peaches were fandabidosi. I was talking to them afterwards and they seem like really cool guys. We were chatting about cartoons with em. Unfortunately they hadn't ever seen Dogtanien (sp?!). They also drew a very odd looking bunny with a 2ft willy on my T-shirt which was nice of them. Also, afterwards some guy gave me a flyer for the Belle and Sebby tour which got me all excited again. Can't wait for Rah! Is anyone on the list into the Beach Boys/Brian Wilson by the way? You'd all love 'Be True to Your School' for sure. I got a copy of the unreleased Smile album last week and it's wicked. Toledo Matt PS. Sinister: Sleep deprivation and B&S gigs

Hello lovely people the Barrowlands gig was absolutely sensational and yes Stuart did get arrested but i don't want to elaborate in case it happens again.It was extremely amusing and rather twee, well at least it would never have happened at a "Rock" concert. Oh yeah Stu was playing "keepie-uppies" on stage with a football and volleyed it into the crowd. There was copious amounts of pass-the-ball until someone threw it onto the stage and hit Isobel's cello (or came very close to hitting it). The only thing that demeaned the concert was my two "lovely" friends who tried to shout above stu et al's singing that "B&S are s***" and "Feeder are much better".hmmmm indeed. Oh yeh they intended to throw a pint into a tuba-esque instrument because it would have been a "gut-laugh" however decided against it.Ahhh those kids eh? Sinister: This is just a post modern rock post

I have decided that what I like about Sinister is the way in which it is both loveably naive while remaining sensibly cynical. All the happy stuff on it is somehow bittersweet and all the sad stuff is still sort of upbeat. Also, everyone on it is kind of well, Sinister (in the good sense (take note of parenthesesesesesees)) and is the kind of person who didn't get on well at school. Must invent some B&S content so I'm going to pretend I saw Chris Geddes and Isobel Cambell in the street in London, that being where I live (even though I don't know what they look like). "Really?" I hear you cry. No, not really, that why I said I was going to *pretend* that I had seen them. Maybe I'll say they were snogging. That would cause a stir, wouldn't it? Ok, no, it wouldn't then, be like that. I did, though, tape Jonathan David off the radio and can now listen to it whenever I want. Of course, come Monday I will be able to do that anyway but who cares. Peter Miller mentioned the Master and Margarita which is a very good book and my favourite in the whole world. Mikail Bulgakov was very talented and all of his books are amazing. Especially The White Guard. Read it, NOW. I am re-reading The Hitchiker's guide in respect to it's late author. Can someone explain to me the subtle inflections of Albums, Singles, LPs and EPs as I have never understood which is which really. I have rediscovered Jazz and Mercury Rev. I possibly prefer the latter but Jazz is so good and varied. There really isn't any other kind of music which is so varied within itself while still having a central core. Pop and stuff all sound the same, Rock is varied but it varies so much in some places that it becomes separate. I luv Jazz. I also, in a fit of music Kleptomania taped a Mercury Rev song off the radio which is due to come out in August and I play it so loud on the tube that people keep staring at me like I was some violent thug. It scares me, but not enough to stop me from playing it very loudly. More singles debates. Just to start one, here is provocative statement: All Belle and Sebastian singles are rubbish. I don't beleive it but pretend I do and then you can get all hot under the collar. hello [insert your name here], i started looking at brier's posting on the l.a. picnic (and well i just went straight to the photographs url) and noticed someone who looks like my twin. he even has my shirt, the thief. and hello to melinda hsu, but she's probably not on this list. i saved some photos for some reference to some future drawings. speaking of drawings, if you haven't already seen the last couple of sillustrations i've done, yes, i returning to paper/standard art stuff, instead of doing it digitally with my lame mouse. the only bad thing is that my scanner can't pick up the really light colors, and i suppose just look a little off compared to the real illustration. i think i'm the only american that haven't gotten the new belle & sebastian single. i went to matadorrecords.com and could've sworn i read it was supposed to be out on the 19th. anyroad, i'm going to see the lucksmiths this monday, it should be good. i'm sure most of you have already heard of them (as they are generally grouped together with b & s). i'm going to sneak in my MD and record the show, so if anyone's interested (i can copy mds to mds, because i own like three md players/recorders). well game boy advance was released, so i am now addicted to mario brothers all over again. the game is a little harder than i remembered on the SNES, maybe it's just the buttons or something ? someone (archel and someone else) was talking about watchmen. i think alan moore is just great. i can't wait for the from hell movie and his ABC books are just wonderful. you should also check out v for vendetta. also: check out dan clowes, who i think is one of the best writer/artist out there. he does eightball (where ghost world was serialised) and ghost world the movie is coming out (in august?) they're releasing this great enid actio figure/doll thing from japan, which i'm ordering ($20 - ouch). vu +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. While hunting the elusive Jonathan David I stumbled into a very queer situation. My first attempt at locating my prey was a late night trip to the local mega-super-duper-doper-popmart. The oracle Julie, said I could find said prey on the 12th, to my joy, a week earlier then expected. I verified my information and headed out the door. A quick look about the residence and Jonathan David was nowhere to be found. The hour was late so I thought it best to retire and continue on the morrow. The next day dawned hot and terrible. What is worse my foul minded neighbor is having work done to her home and the workers like to play their whiny-dance-oriented-radio-fodder loud and under my bed chamber window. If I had not a mission that day I would have been forced to flee for my sanity. A quick return to the "you-will-still-purchase-from-us-no-matter-what-the-mark-up-mart" to see if the new day had brought my target out to the open. It had not. My second chance was, as I was confident, a sure-fire one. My new destination lay many more miles away but no danger arose to halt me. At last I had arrived and hope welled inside as I reached the door and entered the altogether-more-exceptable-den-of-commerce. Suddenly, over an intercom, a voice broke through the silence and demanded attention. "This is the Police. Please evacuate the building. An unknown substance has been found in the parking garage. For your safety, please evacuate the premises at once." I was given no choice, an officer entered the shoppe to ensure that the premises could be sealed off. So close, I thought. Yet not as close as I had thought. A store clerk informed me that they were still awaiting the arrival of Jonathan David. So now I ponder, shall I ever hear the song of this much sought beast? Shall my fingers fall off from exposure to this "unknown substance' before I ever make contact? I shall know in less then a fortnight as the forced-to-got-to-yet-again-mega-popmart say they shall receive reshipment. This story is true. yours, kate PS. Sinister: I (also) love my car

*nervously coughs* i've finally find the time (well i haven't really, i'm just trying to avoid painting the woodwork in the hall, but will really have to do it soon to avoid a telling off from my partner - she can be harsh, but at least she loves b&s...) where was I? oh, yeah, my first post - a sinister virgin, i've served my time in the nursery like any good boy should, i've read and studied and been in thrall of the various postings i've seen, and itched to speak to you all - now i'm here i feel like the new boy in class with everyone staring and thinking i'm strange. i'm sure i'm not really... the thing i really wanted to talk about was following on from all the car talk - my boring drives to work have been so grately enjoyable these past few days as i've been having a b&s listening bonanza as my excitement increases as jonathan david and preston approach - my journey through the plain(boring)s of cheshire have been somewhat eased through the strains of our favourite band - the journey takes 45 mins or so, so just the right time for an album each way... a couple of things had struck me lately though - the other day, i got in a mild panic after over-sleeping that i might get stuck at this junction that's sometimes backed up - it was clear and my reaction was "thank you god" - strange as i don't believe in god - stranger still as the voice sang "if you're feeling sinister, just go and see a minister" at that exact moment - is the lord working in mysterious ways, i ask? the same day on the way home, i was loudly singing along to "the state that i am in" at a set of traffic lights, when a man got out of a car ahead and tried to open someone's car door in a fit of road rage - the thing was he exactly fitted all stereotypes being about 4'10" with a white vest, white rolled up training pants and somewhat over-developed muscles to match the size of the chip on his shoulder - do his type go to a finishing school to achieve perfection in their field, i wonder? anyway my thought at the time was how much more beautiful (if slightly mental) the world would be if all could see and know the true light of belle and sebastian - then again the world might end up like the old coca cola teach the world to sing type thing, and that might be just too sickeningly sweet - we must retain some bile somewhere... i'm sure i've thoroughly bored you all by now, and my timer's about to go ding, so dulux barley white satin here we go... thank you for listening, the boy with the paint in his hair. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- " only connect..." e.m.forster +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. James T Kirk: used to wear a corset on set cos he was so drunk and had to look in a state of non-fat fitness as he said authoritatively 'beam me up' on the surface Planet Zog anon. As for aircraft carriers, I saw the HMS Ark Royal during a boat tour of Plymouth Harbour undergoing a fit-out. My grandpa engineered guns on the HMS Indefatigable during the Second of our World wars and the fact that we don't have an aircraft carrier of such long name and weighty tonnage at present speaks loudly of our lost heritage. More syllables, anyone? Anyone? Enterprise: 75 and a half thousand tonnes Ark Royal: 43 thousand tonnes Indefatigable: data no longer present. AND SINCE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF CARS LATELY. . . writes the over-achieving but now four-letter-pasted intellectualvoid I'm searching (but found my MOT certificate). Long days on trains and dodgy bus services... (during strikes by guards of the former: information gathered; talks ongoing). Damn nuisanse there's no commuter service on the bus between Dunblane and Edinburgh during a train strike. I believe the New Yorkers are having a picnic also. Why hello, Sinister! I'm re-emerging from my dark corner, and for no good reason at all, except to share in the general on-line revelry and debauchery. I must say, although I am terribly excited about the CD already being released here in the states, I can't say that I think it's at all fair. The band's from Scotland, shouldn't you lot have it first? Although I agree that since I can't get to a show, the CD seems adequate compensation. Well, nevermind. It would appear that I actually have no solid opinion on it at all. I'm writing from work, since you were so kind to ask. I work too fast. I've been duly reprimanded. I've been told to slow down; there's not enough work. Now, that's constructive criticism I can honestly enjoy. So, now I pace myself. File, cruise the net, shred, download mp3's, make a packet, order a book online. You know. Pace. A NICE four-letter word. Do you want to hear a NASTY four-letter word? Math. Shh. Keep it quiet. It's pure evil. I have an 84%, and dammit that's not good enough. I am become an overachiever. I ask myself sometimes, when has a B (a fucking B)in math not been good enough? Well, comes the disembodied response, since. . . NOW. And that's usually where the conversation ends. Luckily. It could end up in a mental catfight, and I could do some serious membrane damage, so I think I've gotten off easy. AND SINCE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF CARS LATELY. . . Unfortunately, Chuckie (my jeep) is terminally ill. I don't have a formal diagnosis as of yet, but he had a bypass a few weeks ago (catalytic converter thing, you know) and he's having lung trouble (I can't use fucking air at all anymore). Also, he's been having serious palpitations (I think this may be evidence of the serious engine trouble the mechanics hinted at). As a matter of fact, he's quite beaten up.
