Jim Taylor popped his head above the parapet, which reminded me that he was one of the first people to greet me in Glasgow. So once again, Jim - hello. Anyone would think that David Moore didn't have 3 jobs to go to. Peter Miller laid into the new 45. I was glad to see that. He's right about the guitar solo if nothing else. And maybe other things too. In Glasgow we heard stories about him. Has anyone read The Great Gatsby lately? Tony Tanner's Penguin intro is a marvel. Golly, there are some great lines in that novel. The cabs in the 40s on the way to the theates; the streets of men, women and machines; the valley of ashes seeking what Tanner calls 'negative transcendence'; Gatsby and the green light across the bay; the moment that Carraway tells him, you're better than the lot of them put together; the stunning finale, on the edge of a mysterious, new, old, modern, sad land, in the spray of time and the sea. It makes me wonder why my editor doesn't like Fitzgerald more than (I think) he does. Talk about the understanding of artifice (let alone the artifice of understanding). Going to see B&S in the flesh reminded me of the silly theme that comes up now and again, re. Isobel's rear end. It reminded me to write to sinister and say: it is terribly obvious that people who go on about it the way they do - in what is meant to look like a daring and satirical way - are really just beating the bishop while sitting at the keyboard. Hello Listees I'm quite excited at the minute as I'm going to Birmingham very soon, not to see B&S just Birmingham Though as luck would have it they are playing at the same time as I'm there and I do have a ticket so I suppose I should make use of it. Actually it's nothing like that at all. all this excitement running about inside me about the gig and the picnic the day before has me rather happy and I may be able to put some names to faces. Than Q Chris Jones for all the encouragement with the RAH ticket, sadly I was outbid. But thank's all the same. ***&^£$%*%^"£$^&*)!!&$%($^ I had a dream a few weeks ago and it was about being in a supporting band for a band called "Bastian R". (for reasons unknown to me it's only just managed to become a memory even if I had it a while back) It was rather broken up during my sleep but the main part involved us (support band) on stage at Glastonbury telling the crowd that we'd be off in a minute or two. This is not a particularly usefull piece of info except I wondered if perhaps the name of the band was a splinter of proper information that had kind of fallen off the main useful bit and ended up in a dream somehow. My diagnosis goes a bit like this.... A bit of proper thought (concerning Belle & Sebastian) has a bump whilst zooming round my head and a chunk of it falls off and down a drain into my imagination where upon it is rolled together with other such unfortunate scraps and madeinto a DREAM. (very eco friendly) The end product being.... Belle & Se"Bastian R" Sorry if I've scared anyone with this sort of in depth mind analysis but I feel it nessesary as Linda told me (rather sternly it seemed) that I did'nt contain enough B&S stuff in my mails and I can see her point I suppose, sorry . I have finally managed to off load my Brum gig ticket upon a very polite young lady by the name of Claire (what ever you do don't try and get rid of it Claire as once you adopt it it stick's like shit to sheep) . Don't believe me? Just take a look at the rear of a sheep (without getting arrested) and note one of mother nature's design faults Can you mail me Claire as to how you want to get hold of your ticket. Thanx. ah well its that time, you see? one stage of my life ending, a new beginning, all the joys and terrors of the world awaiting me*, and what am i doing? unsubscribing from every email list i can remember signing up to, 'cos my email address ceases to exist in a few days and i don't want to annoy anybody ('specially honey). i'll join up again, of course, but i dunno when i'll next have email access. i'm not sure if they have that kind of thing in hackney, which is where i think i'll be living (unless the nice lady with the outrageously cheap flat in camden gets back to me, whcih i have a sinking feeling she won't). hey ho. so i'd like to say a temporary goodbye to all the friends i've made on the list (technically none, but i like to think of you all as my friends; nay, my lovers. possibly. hmmm.), and threaten to hunt down the families of all my enemies on the list (also none). shame i won't be able to send a gushing email describing just how amazing the scarborough gig was, but somehow i suspect you won't be short of those, so no real loss... so, i'll see you on the beach. I was drawing a big poster about wildlife resource management today, as a revision aid. It was quite fun. I drew lots of pictures of trees, mountains, rivers and peat bogs (and of course wrote lots about managing wildlife), with pencil crayons. The smell of them reminded me of being 11, when I used to dream of horses and draw lots of them. I went through some of my dads old records while I was beevering away. Came across a Ralph McTell Album. Some of you may remember Ralph fondly from his time on Alphabet zoo and tickle on the tum, in the days when folky blokeys on kids T.V where more popular than ant and dec. Anyways, this was an album from 1976 and was recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall. It was also signed 'to sarah' by the man himself, so I guess its my record and not my dads after all! I watched a program about the moon the other night. conspiracy theories suggesting that the NASSA didn't manage to get a soul up there. It made me go back and listen to loopers 'Dave the Moon Man' which is about a guy called dave who wants people to prove the conspiracy theories wrong, so he can believe that anything is possible. Honey said: "'Brian Appleton', the new character from John Shuttleworth's creator Graham Fellows, will support Belle & Sebastian for some of the dates on their forthcoming tour." Jilted John by Jilted John (another of grahams characters) has to be one of my favorite songs. Its just got that puerile childish charm to it. I will be much looking forward to seeing him in Brum. Hello everyone! Well, it is my second day back in the states after my trip to lovely UK. I went to the Dunfermline show and met some sinisters, and overheard a few more. Hello to all those I met. Scotland was beautiful, and chilly. I also had my first taste of alcohol in several years when I was there. I also went to a Super Furrys concert in Manchester. It was chock full of Manics fans. It was a good show, although a bit crowded. I brought my father to that one, which was interesting. I don't think he cared for it too much, but some Welsh guy gave him some weed, which my father promptly rolled and smoked, so I think he enjoyed himself at least a little bit. I went to Camden Town in London to get Johnathan David, which I enjoy quite a bit. I think I have to agree that the newer stuff doesn't speak to me as much, but I still love it. If anyone is ever in Mobile, Alabama, and sees a boy dancing like an idiot in his car, it's probably me jammin to "too much love" or something. I'm suchadork. I saw Tomb Raider last night: sucked. I also missed the Peel Sessions, but hopefully I'll hear them via .mp3, legal or not. Somebody mentioned the rapper in Clint Eastwood sounds like the rapper in Deltron 3030. I'm sure you've been told by now that they are both Del the Funkee Homosapien. Why is the new Sparklehorse not available in US yet? We may have had JD a week earlier than the UK, but at least you have Sparklehorse. I also bought the new Mum. Is this the band that was supposedly on the cover of FYHCYWLAP? I seem to remember something about it. I just had a strange incident with a roach. I will go no further, but it was interesting. they kept me waiting for ages today. Said it would be there mid afternoon. I didn't find out til 4.45pm ish. But I got my uni results. After lots of worrying, and waiting, I got my degree. Now I am officially a Ba Hons berry. Joint honours. Yay me.. Speechless, but still happy. And not a high drop from a tall building in sight. Any suggestions what I do with the rest of my life? Sinister: won't be denying myself the benefits of being alive

i spent a good portion of the day yesterday making a b&s mix tape. it is for a girl and her boy lover who are visitng my freind from out of town. of course when i met them i almost immediatley got a crush on her and of course the boy is very sweet and nice and even wears skirts so i can't even resent him. ah well, all the girls i like have boys. it's difficult t make a mix tape of b&s becasue i don't do very well with making value judgements about which songs should go on there cos they won't all fit, but they're all so swell. i haven't been able to get ahold of the single and all these postings of lyrics to songs played at the peel sessions which i haven't heard are killing me. i'll have to get busy procuring them. yesterday we had a thunderstorm and i stood on the porch and it rained all around me but did not rain directly on me for a long time. i was starting to think i was charmed, but then when i went to go inside i stubbed my toe and proceeded to spill almost all the water in my sink down my cute red dress while i tried to wash my way thorugh dirty dishes mountain before i had people over. oh, and i would just like to say that i am very fond of this this list and am so glad i joined. kirstin _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org.
