Is it only me that wonders why the oscars are on at such a silly time?
Surely they would be better off
Starting a good 6 or 7 hours earlier
So that then
More people could watch them.
Cus staying up late is bad for your complextion
And I'll never get to my lectures like this.
If it started at around 5 o'clock
Well then all of the celebrities
Wouldn't all look so tired and sleepy
Especially the younguns
Like Leonardo DeCaprio
Who may have paperounds and such like the next day.
Also it would finish earlier
(well, that goes woithout saying)
And all of the actors
Could rush down the pub for last orders.

DAVID (Ruth?)wrote
Good to see Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead cropping up on a reading list.
I'm afraid the only Fountainhead I know is the excellent Bluetones song of
that name, probably the best thing on Expecting to Fly. I haven't heard the
new album yet. Any thoughts anyone?
Yes, pity us poor Philistine science graduates! There seems to be a lot of
literature and poetry being cited on the list these days!
Perfume - Paris Angels
Wow! Yes the Paris Angels. 'Sundew' album is ace and 'Perfume' is the
best of all. I remember hearing it for the first time on a London pirate radio
station called Q (or possibly Cue) 102 in the summer of '90. The version
that turned up on the album was not quite so good as the original single
but it was still ace. They did a superb version of Lou Reed's 'What Goes
On' on the album as well. Shame the music press hated them. Q102 was
killed off when the radio franchises were awarded. The summers of '89
and '90 were so cool for pirate radio in London; there were tons of
highly amusing techno stations which were really amateur and the DJs
began every sentence with "big shout going out to...."
The piano part on 'Seeing Other people' is incredible and I certainly don't
know anything else that sounds quite like it. Maybe in the classical
repertoire....
There are Cockney introductions throughout the classical repertoire if Bill
Bailey is to be believed. Maybe I should get my revenge on these bookish
individuals by starting a discussion on comedy. Fridays just aren't the
same now the Friday Night Armistice isn't on. I loved all their stuff on the
mIllennium Dome.

Hi list,
I really dig the song "The Stars of Track and Field", but I don't think I'm
understanding much of the lyrics... I was wondering if someone could help
me out with some of it:
- is the "you" in the song a boy or a girl? Who is the "She"? and the "I"? :-))
- what is "terry underwear"?
- does "throwing discuss" and "track and field" actually refer to athletics?
The song sounds intentionally ambiguous to me, so perhaps there is no
clear explanation of it... that's fine with me, I just want to make sure I'm
not missing anything because of English not being my native language...
Also, feel free to send your personal opinions about the song...
(by the way, is anyone from the band on this list? Is there a chance I could
hear from the lyric writer himself? Not........!)
Oh well,

Hooray!
I have come to the conclusion that the intro to "Seeing Other People"
sounds like EVERY song that has EVER been written. It is the everyman
of popular music. It is the salamander of piano. It is, in a very
real sense, magic.

My thoughts:
If someone chooses to spend that much money on Tigermilk, instead of putting
up with a cassette from some nice person on this list, or waiting until the
band can be bothered to reissue it, then that's their affair. (If I had to
choose between Tigermilk and, say, 15 chart CDs, then I'm fairly sure which
would give me the greatest pleasure).
You can't blame a record dealer for accepting their money, the record is only
worth that because it's a damn fine record, and it's very hard to come by.
That doesn't make them wankers.
If the band had actually got their act together and put out a reissue, even a
CD only release so the LP's are still special or whatever, then the original
would still be collectable, but not fetching the ridiculous prices it is. And
the fans who want the music could get hold of it.
Maybe they want to preserve the mystique of the LP, by ensuring as few people
as possible get to hear it, maybe they don't think its any good! Either way
it's bound to be pirated/bootlegged soon, if indeed it hasn't been already.
So either way we'll all soon be able to get hold of it!
Cheers,
Rocker

Yeah! I'm the sort of sad bloke who'd find such a list fascinating!, like for
example, when was their first gig, etc.
Also, how many of these gigs do people have on tape? It'd be fascinating to
hear an early gig!
Cheers!

Paige,
I got about a quarter of the way through and had to put it down.
TH is not my cup-of-tea on his good days, but I am very disappointed by what I have read so far.
It is quite hard going !!

Probably.
Please can we stop talking about Q magazine?;-) I've had a bad enough time

then having my shame displayed on Honey's (otherwise charming) people pages

Loop were a mid-80's drone band who you might like if you like the Spacemen
3, who (it is often said) Loop mercilessly ripped off. Loop were the
original life sized models of the Velvet Underground in clay. They wouldn't
have known a decent pop song if it bit them. Oh, having said that, we once
met a future member of Loop taping a Housemartins gig...top Serious Rock
cred there...
Apologoes to any Loop fans...
Bye
