One of the best books I've ever read has to be A Prayer for Owen Meaney
by John Irving. For some reason it strikes me as very Belle&Sebastian,
there is a certain magic to it and a poetry that is enough to bring one
to tears on occasion. It's a bit longish but well worth it. For
something a might more disturbing (and consequently less B&S) try Geek
Love by Katherine Dunne. Very strange story but a good read nonetheless.
I have to say Geek Love is one of my favorite books of all time! I would
also recommend The Wasp Factory by Ian Banks or Perfume by Patrick Suskind
for those who like strange.

<< belle and sebastian.
the chat, what a fucking disqappointment. >>
I'm afraid I can only agree with just about everything Sarah said. The IRC
set-up is dysfunctional and the transcript is ludicrous. I took part in the
aol conference chat with Kevin Shields and that worked wonderfully. hey-ho.

My bold and stupid claim that I was the only person in the world on both
the B&S and Afghan Whigs mailing lists has been refuted by two people.
I am mortified - what kind of freak listens to both these bands?
well on the chat yesterday someone from Belle and Sebastian did say they
were a SLAYER fan and that they hated Nick Drake.......hmmm wonder who that
could of been?

hi :)
i have the next week off from school and i want to go down to the library to
get some new books to read.. i was wondering if you sinisters have any good
recommendations for me.. im in the mood for a book with a belle and
sebastian type story - about love and obsessions and average events that are
not-so-average when looked at closely.. something similar to the beautiful,
beautiful "belle lettres" from the tangents ezine... or just send me any
sort of book list!
thanks for the help..

Here is something I received earlier...
I laughed and laughed and laughed...sorry to any Spurs supporters!
(not really, we're playing Spurs tomorrow)
"From: Richard Tan
Date: 13/03/98 15:55:53
Subject: Christian Gross spotted
I've just been down the Building Society at lunch to draw some cash out
of the old savings account. While I was queuing, you'll never guess who
walked in. Yes, Christian Gross.
While he was queuing he was overcome, perhaps by heat, and he fainted. A
couple of people rushed up to him, and using some cold water were able
to bring him round within a couple of minutes.
As he came to, he said, groggily, 'Where am I????'
'The Nationwide' said one of the people who revived him.
'Fuckin' hell', said Gross, 'Is it August already'"

So the Jools Holland show did`nt come of, shame. I would have loved to see
the big jam thing they do at the start..... picture the scene: Metallica to the
left, the Wu-Tang Clan to the right. Jools himself sets the ball rolling
with one of his honky tonk/jazzy/muso (yawn) piano riffs, then James
Hetfield and the Metallica lads go absolute ape shit and their
plectrums begin to melt....meanwhile our heroes look at each other
with puzzled expressions....it`s the Wu`s turn to join in and the D.J.
fellow drops in a phat beat (yeahh man, I know all the lingo!).....the
studio audience smile and some even clap in time! the rest just look
pretty.....the camera pans over to Belle and Sebastian,
you can tell from Stuart`s expression that he wishes they`d decidied to
go with that O-zone idea, but it`s too late now. Belle and Sebastian
begin to join in with the honky tonk/thrash/hip-hop noise that now
fills the studio.....and if you strain your ears really hard you just
might make out the delicate strumming of an acoustic guitar and a
single organ tradgically lost in all the chaos of rock and roll......Jools
is told by the director to wind it up, he begins to implement the outro......
it all falls quiet (that is after a 5 minute drum solo from the Metallica
sticks man, accompanied by some impromtuo break dancing from Celine Dion,
who`s also there).......hmmmm i can now see why they did`nt do the show, but
it would have made great television!

This has probably cropped up before, although not in my time on the list , but
you can have hours of fun at http://www.mi.uib.no/~ingeke/anagram/index_eng.html
a little site that will generate anagrams for you.
Belle and Sebastian came out as (Apart from Bleed Satan Lesbian which is Honeys
pseudonym):
I Sense A Bent Ballard
A Tense Bible Sandal
I, Deniable Bent Lass
And my personal favourite:
A Neat Sensible Bald
See ! They Don't Lie!!
See if you can get these, either band memebers or listees:
1) hot rum custard (Yum!)
2) Bogart germ tract
3) hot senses erupt
4) lethal lip cum
5) avid art stud
6) a shot Ukraine
7) I mock coke
8) ample bible cellos
Don't post answers to the list, I'll post them myself later.
