Er, probably a stupid question, but does anyone know if the characters in B&S
songs are based on anyone in particular? Are they friends of the band, or as I
suspect, will Stuart write a song about you in return for, ahem, certain
favours? (I'm negotiable, if you're reading...). It would be nice to know if
anyone on the list is mentioned in a song. (Or if they've slept with Stuart
M.)

Ah, I remember the days when Sebastian was a crap name...

You're all wrong. Stuart is clearly Saint-Exupery's 'le petit prince'.
Standing alone on his own little planet, and filling the universe with
beautiful melancholy thoughts.
Anyway, I'm off to weed out the Baobabs.

Fantastic use of the English language - what on earth does it mean?

They bounce the sound back down. Acoustic baffles I think you'll find - not
mushrooms!
B&S content: I noticed they didn't have any mushrooms in the roof at
Manchester.

Did anyone see the Century of Fakers video on MTVs alternative nation? If
so does anyone know what it's about? or maybe it's just meant to be
surreal. I thought that the sign language and Karaoke effect were a nice
touch.
Oh yeah, it's just occured to me that "stars of track and field" could be
a song about my life. See, when I was at school you were either good at
sport or you were no-one. THis is basically what Stuart is lamenting isn't
it? I may have got this wrong though.

MOMUS is playing in London upstairs at the Garage on 21st January...
Is anyone from the list going? (cos I am)
I saw him in Paris and that was fantastic.
I love JACK too.
"Pioneer Soundtrack" is a magnificent album and I would recommend it to
everyone on this list. JACK made my year in 96, just like BELLE & SEBASTIAN
did in 1997.
Both bands release a new album in 1998 and I can't wait to hear them !
(JACK's one will be called "The Jazz Age", I think...)
Elle est pas belle la vie ?!???
1998 is gonna be MAGNIFIQUE !

hello peeps,
last night my best friend called me, horribly upset and sobbing over an
argument she had with someone she really cares about. and about halfway
through the conversation i was listening to her tell me about it when
there was a quiet bit where she was trying to catch her breath and
suddenly i noticed "...but if you're feeling sinister, go off and see
your minister..." playing away in the background! i had bought IYFS for
her birthday just a week ago, and though i felt really bad that she was
so upset, i couldn't help but smile silently.
altogether now: awwwww...
jillian. xx
ps: do you have the brand of jeans called JNCOs in britain? cos i was
just trying to imagine wee chris's flares and i came up with a strange
(and perhaps slightly disturbing) image of him in those outrageously wide
JNCOs. i've never had the pleasure of seeing wee chris, but from his
name i would imagine that his whole body could fit into one leg of those
jeans.

i'm a little overwhelmed at how everyone is taking steve wells' review of the
band. so he slagged them off-so what? for those of you who want B&S to forever
remain "indie", his review could help dissuade the "masses" from buying into
our gang. for those(like me) who want this band to succeed beyond all
expectations, it's further proof that the band's decision to ignore the press
is the right way to go.
i mean wells should eat shit and die but it's not gonna stop me from preaching
to the uninitiated(latest convert:friday night dinner companion, ex-guitarist
with early eighties la punk band the flyboys, who called me yesterday after
buying IYFS and ALL THREE EP'S desperate for a "Tigermilk" tape.) We can do
this ourselves-we don't need some p.r.-humping illiterate rock scribe to
help!!

:-( MTV in the U.S. no longer plays Alternative Nation. We still have 120
Minutes, though, but unfortunately instead of playing the kinds of video's
they used to play in the eighties (rare gems like "Aikea-Guinea" or even an
occasional Smiths video) they stick with "safer" ones like O****s, N* D***t
and B**h (which they play 24/7 anyway - so why reserve this special time?)
instead of (upcoming darlings!) like Belle and Sebastian or Magnetic Fields
(do the MF's even have videos?)
