I know,they deserve it!Poor little guys... Sometimes (since they're aren't
many similar fans) I feel I'm providing for the bands...I better buy a Shed
Seven cd soon...so Rick Witter will be able to eat! (but he' will probably
just buy another pack of cigarettes...I don't think he eats
anyways...waif-boy) I am helping Jack..I bought their cd AND vinyl! but I
just don't have enough money to buy all the cds that I want,so me and my
friends make copies..and also, beautiful beautiful singles are expensive here
cause all the ones I want are always import...
What about if you buy a cd from a second hand store...I bought IYFS and the
3 eps (which were all new) from Spinables (the gorgeous clerks! THey tempt
you!) I guess that didn't give B&S anything....maybe Stuart bought some
socks.....

Someone else got the answer to this one too,I thought I was the only one,now
my trivial menswear facts are useless....now there's a band that went to the
nowhere land....Menswear they are added to:The Bluetones,Babylon Zoo and
Spacehog...
they used to be so big, then they streaked their hair, and it all came

but before you think i'm going off topic, i'm sort of working backwards
belle and sebastian > nick drake > bert jansch
which is what i would like, so if anyone has a superior collection of
bert jansch's recordings and would be willing to do a tape, i'd really
appreciate it
mail me with your address and i'll get a tape sent of to you

Having just got back to uni, I should like to share this moment with
you all:
1:54 a.m. Christmas Day.
Being only a poor (very poor) student, i'd survived on merely the EPs
until someone was kind enough to buy me IYFS as a present. Having
cajoled a friend into doing so, I spent Christmas Eve down the pub
(as you do), spending more money that I couldn't afford and
exchanging pressies. Then I went home, drunk, but not too drunk:
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.
I remember looking at my watch, midway through 'Judy and the Dream of
Horses', and thinking this may be the greatest Christmas present
ever. It was 1:54 am.
That's all. Thankyou for indulging me.

Well everyone, we've had some very interesting ideas recently! I reckon we
should all go out and have our middle names as 'belle' for girls 'sebastian'
for boys- that is the best idea i've heard all year :):)
Also, about Bert Jansch... go ahead and record what you like- home taping is
naughty i suppose but then we all do naughty things and also, i've tried
finding people like bert jansch, nick drake et al on vinyl- i hate CDs(see
that post from david about how bootlegging thrives on them etc) and basically
there have been no rereleases or anything so I have bought records
second/third/fourth etc hand. And i'm not about to buy any bert jansch on one
of those shiny little discs of terror- sorry to the jansch family but as david
says
>>only £1.61 from a £13.99 CD ends up with the artist.
Now, if I buy old records, am I stealing from mr jansch just because he won't
get any profit from the sale? How is that different from home taping, from
bert's point of view? Home taping is a humane way of spreading good music!
Without home taping, I couldn't have convinced my friends to go out and buy
Belle and Sebastian records, and without home taping, i would be very sad
because I love Nick Drake and it's almost impossible to find his original
records, and there've been no rereleases on vinyl. Should I go out and buy a
Nick Drake cd? That would compromise my ethics!:) And anyway, when tigermilk
gets rereleased I'm going to buy it even though i have it on tape!
I hope that fuzzy argument made sense, and dispute with me if you like- "if
there's one thing i learned when i was still a child it's to take a hiding" :)

Being a ve May 1996 when he sent john the album.
In the letter it says "We are recording another lp in August, Cock Fun, with a
London independant called Jeepster"
Does this mean that the original title for If You're Feeling Sinister was Cock
Fun? Anyone know what happened to make them change their minds? I think it's
quite a funny title, but maybe not as good.
This letter has also got Stuart's home address and telephone number on it.....
..............................................................................
...............
Northy says>>Well I have a tape of the BBC sessions now
if i sent you a tape, could you record them for me? I could give you stuart's
phone number and address in return...:):):)

Absolutely- it's very very precious!!!
anyway, that's all for today

Hello sinisters,

I was listening to Babies in January 1993, I believe (I'm showing off-maybe
and I'm showing my age), so I suppose it was released the previous year.
Stylorock is marvellous. This is 'aesthetics' and content, class-ic. Which
brings me to the Rialto Issue. Being tres stylish is great, I'm all surface
- no feeling myself (yeah, right), but it doesn't really account for making
songs that sound like 'forever J' by the Lig*tning Se*ds.

Fuck that and fuck you. (I hope I don't get told off by Honeydive Paul) I
hope our beloved monsters of rock, lords of sleaze and kings of debauchery
become rich and famous, it's their Ffate and yours is to whine and tell
everyone how you knew them first.

And that was only Sunday afternoon. Your name reminds me of a track from
sabres' divine 'haunted dancehall'. Splendid.

Hi Olafia, I'm Kelly. Isn't lazy line painter Jane one of the most
beautiful videos ever made? I didn't think much of the single (the 'guest'
girl's voice is irritating for me) until I saw this.
Kitchen: a grand and ridiculous (life) story. Don't miss it! Showing at
your local cinema now!

I applaud Mister Northy's decision to come out of the closet
and declare himself a Conservative Environmentalist. I don't
think it makes much difference really. I preach the gospel
of Universal Love in the Afternoon.
Having said that, the only good Tory is a lavatory.
Bootlegging is big business here, but I've hardly ever seen
bootlegs of official releases, just shitty recordings of
shitty concerts and a strange Beatles remix album that
appears to be intended for Psychic TV fans.
I was looking forward to the Jeepster response when someone
mentioned Tigermilk tapes for sale not so long ago, but they
let it lie. A great disappointment to those of us who like a
good scrap. I've been reading some stuff about the problems
of copyright policing in this modern world of information
by-passes. But nothing about Belle and Sebastian.
I didn't get a single question right in that quiz

So... I would really love to know which other bands get you *sinister*
people off...musically, that is.
My own essentials include The Bathers, Apples in Stereo, Bedhead, Blueboy,
Cocteau Twins, The Divine Comedy, Field Mice / Northern Picture Library /
Trembling Blue Stars, Frank & Walters, The Magnetic Fields, The Innocence
Mission, Low, Red House Painters, Spain, Stereolab, The Sundays,
Tindersticks, Trash Can Sinatras, Versus, Buddha on the Moon, Shift, 7%
Solution, ESP Summer, and Nick Drake (OK, hes not a band, but I adore him).
By the way, does anyone know anything about the Pearlfishers? The review I
read from TweeKitten sounded fabulous! Classic acoustic pop?

Having heard what bands listees "get off on" I'd be interested to hear
what bands listees had "got of WITH" or "got off TO". Or when going on
long train journeys is there one band that always coincides with your
destination, i.e. music you can get off AT...
Unfortunately I can't play as I've never snogged anybody in a band and
one of the great regrets of my life is that I have spent far too little
time "kissing in my room to a popular tune". I'd never even gone on a
Ferris Wheel till I went to Manchester for the gigs.
Will nature make a man of me yet?
John
