Could all the people who are trying to leave/change their membership of
the list PLEEEEEEASE read the WWW page for instructions. It's dead easy.
You don't mail this address, you mail "majordomo(a)majordomo.net". Please.
Really. I just haven't got time to pick up failed subscriptions.
Also - for Andrew Dean I've added compressed (.zip and .gz) weekly
archives of the mailing list on the WWW - see the site (in the footer).
Erm - and no-one's told me how to change my name yet. Deed poll? What's
a statutory declaration? There must be some UK lawyers on the list. See,
I'm not doing it for the band (they're crap), it's just a perfect
opportunity to rid myself of a bad middle name but keep my initials. And
I always fancied someone calling me Seb.

Yes, but all of those whose first names are Isobel or Sebastian would look like twats !

Hiya,
Eh maybe you all know this and I'm being silly but I think that a
brimfull of Asha is on "the 45"
... and I think its from the Cornershop single...
Like I said sorry if you knew this one...
Afrter going back home for the holidays more and more people seem to
be talking about B&S .... and this is in Orkney folks which is
practically the north pole.
Also they didn't seem to be Belle and Sebastian people if you know
what I mean.
Actually, what is a Belle and Sebastian person.Any thoughts...
Sort of what the stereotypical B&S fan is and what the reality is
kind of thing...

How about if the group saved all their respective pocket/dole/student grant monies and sent Stuart out busking every day between now and January 1st 2000. By then they should have raised a grand total of £67.48 pence Sterling.
Then on the 2nd January 2000 when the Govt. have finally admitted they have no use for the Millenium Dome, we can all chip in and buy it for the knock down price of 100 quid. I've got 16 pence and a second class stamp. Then we can all get together watch B&S and have a big party.
Sod the Albert Hall...it's all a bit poncey, and you can't trash the place afterwards.
>And Keith, I'm not THAT tall...
16 foot 4 inches...I can't get over that..literally. Don't you find you step on little kids without noticing ?

Yes, yes!!! They're all here! Just Danes left. Olafia, you too come
from the coolest place in the world. Does anyone know about that new
Icelandic film...the one that isn't 'Cold Fever'? That was great - it
had a Citroen DS in it and everyone knows that is the coolest car in
the world.
Love you all to pieces

I can vouch for this statement. I've scanned in some pics from the
Manchester gigs and one or two do confirm what Stuart says!!!

Another vote from me for this, it would be amazing!

Sunday morning routine at the CD store, listening to music and drinking
coffee, dancing around to great swing-y music by Cherry Poppin' Daddies.
Helping to pick out music for a customer to listen to when he comes in later:
which B&S ep? I pick 3..6..9 Seconds of Light, Doug picks Dog on Wheels.
A kid comes up with a vinyl LLPJ to complete his collection. Says how sad he
was to miss the NY shows, but he hadn't discovered the band until just after
them. Give him the list address.
Returning before the store closes, the anticipated customer is settled in,
listening to CDs he might like. 3..6..9.. wins -- and so does Dog on Wheels.
"Music you can cry to," he says, adding them to his pile of purchases.
Convert the World!! There's plenty of room...

WARNING: NO B&S CONTENT
>>Hello,
>>As we are on the subject......

>>Story" Volumes 1 and 2. Both are excellent.

??????????
erm, he means Northern Soul as in Mod revivalists spinning on their
heads in '70s dancehalls to the sounds of Soul rarities. These tended
to be tunes ranging from the Early '60s to the late '70s which in the
main were not hit records. Some singles are equally as good as the all
time Motown greats but relatively unknown. They can be one-off tunes or
the lesser known tracks of the hitmakers (Ike & Tina Turner for example).
>Maybe I should buy more. But buy what ? I don`t fancy going to seedy
>holiday camps and paying 100 quid for a single (or spinning on my back
>either to be honest !). Anyone have any great insights into the murky
>world of Northern Soul ?
buying Northern Soul records, like most other genres, involves wading
through loads of crap. There are loads of vinyl or CD compilations on
loads of labels, the best being the likes of Kent or Goldmine/Soul Supply.
Having only around 20 or so Northern Soul comp LPs/CDs means I'm only
a small fan, and I prefer Sixties Soul. I'd recommend you look out
for anything by Mary Love, Jackie Day or Vernon Garrett.
The earlier Kent compilations ("For Dancers Only" and the like) are a
good bet and there are good budget CDs about. Look out for a CD called
'18 Northern Soul Floorshakers' which you might even be able to pick
up in those nasty 2.99 racks in your local Newsagent/petrol station!
Don't buy anything else from that rack though, and avoid anything
which says 'some tracks may be re-recorded etc.'
Spinning on my head,
The Laird of East Fountainbridge.
P.S. "the only good Tories are Lavatories" and "Red Tag" had
me cracked up during this otherwise boring evening.
