i do believe that their first singles were compiled on an album a while
back...can't remember what it was called...if that can help!

All,
One day into the new mailing list and a couple of notes:
o The list is restricted so that only members can post to it - this is to
avoid junk mail from the outside. The way I had it set up didn't allow
members of the digest versions to post but this should be fixed now -
let me know if it isn't.
o Some mail addresses are consistently bouncing and holding up the queues
to the rest of you. As policy I will remove these bad addresses after
about 10 consistent bounces and the bad addresses will be told about this
for some time in case they wake up. The following undeliverable
addresses have been removed: geoffr(a)erols.com litausa(a)aol.com
chriz11(a)aol.com bijoux13(a)aol.com sfeane(a)force9.net. I won't be telling
you everytime I do this but I inherited these addresses from the old list.
o Finally a plea: from the number of people subscribing and then rapidly
unsubscribing I suspect the large amount of non B&S postings are putting
people off. I don't want to be dogmatic but from experience mailing
lists only survive if there is a high signal-to-noise ratio. There are
now over 200 people on this list so please try to make sure what you are
saying is of interest to most BELLE AND SEBASTIAN fans! This is not a
general discussion list for related music - join indiepop for that.
Hmm that's made me unpopular. If anyone has comments on this then let ME
know rather than the list - I promise I will post a summary. But let's make
sure this list keeps going...

Pup-tent is also the name of a Douglas Coupland character (in "Life After
God"). As English is not my first language, could it possibly be that I
haven't noticed "pup-tent" stands for loads of other things?

Nice one there, if another batch of Tigermilks were made, about 1000 would do, then all seriously interested in B&S (excluding those who only want it cos it's rare) could have a copy, and still act all smug when B&S become really famous and the price of Tigermilk rockets. Someone should pass this idea on to the people who control such stuff. Cheers.

I remember doing a three mile cross-country run at school with a
sprained ankle, I was on crutches for a month :-(. I've given up on it
now - don't see the point of running three miles up and down hills just
to get back to exactly where you started...
The best sport around is definitely korfball!

It was called "Bittersweet Symphony". And I think the video for it (of
the lead singer walking down a street bashing into people) was alluded
to in the sleeve notes for LLPJ;
"Jane pretended she was making indie-rock videos as she tore through the
East End. She thought herself quite magnificent, and only caused two
minor disturbances as she went."

The State I am in...
...is a quite depressed one, I must say.
So the B&S show in New York is sold out. I´d prefer to miss it wth a day or
two, as with the Spiritualized concert the 4th, but.... life´s grim. To be
in NY that very day without a ticket.
Still, there must be a way to get in for us without any moral whatsoever?!
And do anyone really have any news about the collection of B&S?
About Luna, and this makes me very excited, I had the chance to make an
interview with Dean Wareham when he visited Stockholm last week. He was
very nice (and had some interesting gossips about Jon Spencer and Paul
Auster´s son).
I really like Pup Tent, and i fully agree with Alistair who tought it
really grows on you. I thought it was crap in the beginning, but now I even
like Ihop. But "Pup tent" isn´t as good as "Bewitched".
But a man who writes a song with the title "Bobby peru" deserves respect!
And the it was the Flying Nun-subject. I´wouldn´t say i´m a an but I really
like Bailter Space, 3DS, Chills, Clean and well the most of things they put
out.
I used to look for their yearly collections but they are hard to find here,
as the local recordshop can´t search in their computers on labelname.
And to Ivo, I´m afraid to make you disappointed, but my zine is in Swedish.
We´re planning however to get an english site but this isn´t a prior thing,
but I´ll keep you up to date.
By the way - I´d like more info on "Class". Interesting.
To Duke of Harringray - what does Kevin Pearce think of Belle And Sebastian?
Best wishes to all of you,
Klas (who, because of the NY problems will dig up his Smiths collection and
stay in for days. Life´s unfair!!! Isn´t that an Able Tasmans-song by the
way, all you Flying Nun-fans out there?)

Hello---
I'm crossing my fingers that this one will work now that the list is all
shiny and new. You see I've been on the list for quite some time now, but
my messages never seemed to make it to the list.
I'm Kristen, I live in Boston (USA), and I love records.
Here's a question, did any of you send a message to get free tickets for
the West 54th taping? Just curious if you got a response yet. That may
be my only chance of seeing the band this time around, so I'm anxious to
hear back from them.
here I am,
kristen
ps. I think the Arab Strap album is good (with the exception of 1 song).
If you like the sound of guitars recorded so that you can hear the
fingers sliding over the strings, all scratchy and lo-fi (for lack of a
better word) with whispery/angsty story-like lyrics, an occasional
bombastic blast of drums and a catchy bassline here or there, by all means
pick it up. The single The First Big Weekend is just stunning (and
included on the album.)

De: Chris Stack <Chris.Stack(a)BTInternet.com>
Para: 'Belle and Sebastian mailing list' <sinister(a)majordomo.net>
Assunto: Sinister: The B&S T-Shirts.
Data: Quarta-feira, 27 de Agosto de 1997 19:21
This is sort of connected with the recurring theme thing. At first I
thought the Bus design on the shirt was because so many of Belle and
Sebastian's songs feature this mode of transport: StringBean Jean, The
state I am in, and countless others, I expect. But then I realised the
acronym for the band is bas, which is the cockney pronunciation of bus,
this is reinforced by the fact that B&S seem to like playing for the
southerners instead of coming up north, but I'm not bitter about it.
Elvis isn't a >^..^<
Your point on the bus/bas issue is quite interesting, but your cat is
really something!!!
Thanx for showing the drawing, i didn't know it yet...

As I'll be seeing the band a week from Sunday, I'm going to ask a
question of burning importance: what should one wear to a B&S concert? I
know that anoraks, flares, jeans, jumpers, or damn near any other item of
clothing are loaded with subtexts in British pop culture. I just don't
want to embarass myself or Stuart. Any tips?
