well, count me in (out on the 5th back on the 14th, staying in flemington NJ in
the meantime). actually there're a bunch of people from the indiepop mailing
list that i know that are having a get together on the sunday afternoon before
the gig so... (i don't know details yet though, i've got to look up their email
address)
well, i think the trouble people are having with regards to getting tickets is
because they left it too late - the gig was first mentioned months ago (it
seems). yeah i know it's trouble (many a time i've had to make a trip into
london just to get tickets for things, stereolab most of the time) but a credit
card would make things a lot easier...
>*i love you all*
you're lying... i can tell...

who doesn't need to berate people for not including their email addresses in
posts anymore because they're all in the archives!

A quick introduction, to apologize for not being able to change my name.
Though I don't know if this is a introductory type place to be.
I taped a radio show, about a year ago, and rediscovered the tape when
finally trying to sort them out. It included a beautiful song,
expectations by an band unknown to me. I don't know what it was about this
song that struck a chord in me: I was sure that I had heard it somewhere
before, but hadn't.
So, like probably a legion of people, I went into my local record shop to
ask about this album called Tigermilk. How they laughed. But I was hooked.
And have been ever since.
Well, I'm Chris and pleased to make your aquantance.

How about a 'Ink Polaroid writing' compo? The most entertaining short
story in Stuart David's stylee wins. They would not have to be about B&S,
just something funny or touching thats happened to you.
What do you think?

Hi, I'm a new user, who only recently got into B and S. Does anybody
know if it's possible to get Belle sheet-music, or if anybody has
transcribed/made a rough guess at the music for any of their songs. I
would love to know the chords for Stars..., (I think it's played in a
slightly off-kilter key, hence I can't duplicate it.) Whatever. I
hope everyone's having a nice day.

>Well, the whole idea of the tape competition was to stimulate posting to
the list, and even if people were just motivated by that, it'd have
worked!!! But I think at the moment people are posting because they're
genuinely interested ...after all, there are some familiar faces here,
but also others who have never met before and may be just discovering
they have similar interests... the list is but young... it's like
talking to people in the queue for a gig, if you will. Anyway, the bus
thread is FUN. Buses are brilliant. However, you have my full permission
to flame me if I start talking about the Manchester Metrolink or
something in a manner you consider to be tenuously connected (and be
warned, I know a LOT about it. I did my Economics project on it. :-) )
I'm not without sympathy here. Mailing lists that remain rigidly on-topic do tend to be somewhat dull (I've been on several - and have unsubscribed from most). I suppose my main gripe here was against the cynical rush to post as much to the list as possible in order to win the tape. Yeah, it's good to talk, but I'd prefer it if people actually had something worthwhile (or witty) to say - even if it's about buses (I think trains are better than buses though). Trouble is, when a list gets as large as this one, unless there's a degree of self-regulation among subscribers, the whole thing just breaks down. I've seen it happen many times before, and it's usually the people with the most interesting things to say that leave first. I can, however, recommend a mailing list that is dedicated to the discussion of buses, trains, fish, sheds, squirrels, bagders, etc, to anyone who e-mails me privately.
By the way (and I know this is an old thread), but my cat, "Little Gary", has a great interest in postmen. Why, he even scent-marked the postman's bag a few weeks back. Luckily the postman saw the funny side of it.

hopefully this reply will go to the right place (sorry paul, i have different
troubles to everyone else, all these posts come from 'owner-sinister' and
replies go there unless i've got my thinking head on and remember to change
them).
anyway, people were talking about arab strap...
>'First Big Weekend' is a great record, and the

well, i think it's now that i should point out that two of b&s played on the
arab strap peel sessions a while ago too - chris and stuart m added keyboards
to the 4 tracks they played... (smell of outdoor cooking, first big peel thing,
i saw you, er, something else)
also, someone mentioned that '...weekend' could get tedious after a while.
well, everytime i've heard them do it live or in session they've changed the
words to reflect the previous weekend which keeps it fresh. it also means he
has to read it off a piece of paper every time which is comical - reminds me of
mark e smith with the inspirals on totp. actually i have this same problem with
'a century of elvis', that i've heard it too often. strangely though, the real
version of the song, 'a century of fakers', is a lot simpler lyrically but i'm
not sick of it yet - less content = more longevity somehow.
um, also, the new arab strap single contains lyrics from the first single
('went out for the weekend, it lasted forever...') done in a comedy voice (and
repeated far too often). = bad.

>A while ago someone asked about The Bathers who played with B&S at
Kelvingrove Park. They are worth checking out although they're not
really like B&S at all. They've also been around a lot longer. Their
best album is called "Sweet Deceit" which is, without hyperbole, a
masterpiece. Chris Thomson, the lead singer, started out some time ago
in a band called Friends Again who I think were on the renowned
Postcard label (circa 1982??).
Mmm.....I saw the Bathers at Kelvingrove Park, and thought they were attrocious - very much in that OTHER Scottish tradition of fake white soul - you know the offenders..... Deacon Blue, Wet Wet Wet, etc. I also thought their stage act was not a little pompous and arrogant (just my luck if they're reading this!). I have vague recollections of Friends Again (wasn't "Honey at the Core" one of their singles, or am I confusing them with someone else?), but they definitely weren't on Postcard.
By the way, am I the only person on this list who thinks that there has been rather too many postings of a....mmm......tenuous nature appearing on this list in the past day or so? Wouldn't be anything to do with the tape competition, would it? Might I suggest that any future such competitions should reward QUALITY of posting, rather than quantity? I say give the tape to the duke.
