It's now possible thanks to some help from Robin Humble (and Andy Dean who passed me that way). Just go to the Sinister WWW page as usual in the footer of this message and find your way. Please note that this is still being tested: it's a bit slow and search through the full text of messages can take an age if you don't think first. Sitting in a computer room in a quiet college... > What did you all think about the NME interview then? Hmmm. The first time I read it I was vaguely annoyed, and amused at the same time. I must admit that a few of the NME writers regularly wind me up (Steven Wells, John Perry when he got at Sarah Bleach in a live review of Comet Gain for having bad skin; which aside from anything else she hasn't) & the whole attitude of the guy who wrote this was condescending in the extreme. "Ahh, these poor little naive people who think they can snub NME". The part at the end when he started making veiled threats about the kind of impression the rest of the band were making behind Stuart Murdoch's back was slightly sad. BTW, in the "what we love about B&S stakes" did anyone mention "when the first cup of coffee tastes like washing up" line in She's Losing It? Always gets to me, that one. Released flexi tracks, singles (on Sarah and CAFF), albums (exclusively on Sarah). Never really acknowledged for their greatness (because they were a SARAH band). Drank a lot of alcohol. I'm sure they don't exist anymore. But while we are on the subject of Sarah, I just want to give everyone on the list a bit of historical perspective. On one Monday in this month of November 10 years ago, the Sarah label was born. It lasted 8 years while being nothing but abused by indie snobs and the NME. Go figure, out of the four bands I interviewed in the first issue of Candy Factory, B&S were the only band not to cite a Sarah band as an influence. Hello, hello, anyone there. Sorry, I'm bored at work and everyone's gone home except me cos I have to make up my hours, so I'm staying late....and it's gone a bit quiet out there. What did you all think about the NME interview then? I've seen a couple of letters, one vaguely damning, one 'concerned'. I thought it was ace. They obviously turned up with an agenda and an indie-schmindie pigeonhole and got egg on their faces when B&S refused to play ball. Maybe upsetting the all-powerful trend-setting, band-breaking NME was a 'bad career move' (hardly surprising for a group who turned down the Radiohead support because they had a church coffee morning to organise), but really it gave me a great deal of pleasure to read of these philistines being made to wait in the rain. I occasionally put pen to paper for IPC myself (film reviews mostly), and I still thought it was funny. At the end of the day, the kids always understand, and the power of word of mouth can beat any sour grapes NME may have in the future. We'll make sure of that, won't we? It's hard to take a position in this diatribe, it's stupid to think you can be rational. I feel like a metronome. Tic: I'm hiding in my cave with B&S, listening to their/my music, sharing those feelings that are so mine they can't be yours too. Toc: I feel an urgency to disclose this secret. But...... take a look at the situation from my point of view. I live in a country with a laughable minority of people interested in english pop and the above-mentioned one is not very sensitive to this abnormal close encounter between a pop music genius and a pop lyrics genius. Don't get me wrong. Down where I live there's a couple of radio station with quasi-good taste. 1-The youngest with too much Prodigy for my high blood pressure 2-The historical one, with many concessions to adult oriented rock (strange definition) We have some good record store too and yesterday Radiohead played here. So, to cut a long story short, why do I feel like in a dream when you'd want to scream and you can't? Have you ever experienced this dualistic sensation of being happy like the chosen one and miserable for not being able to show this beauty, to convince everyone with the plain evidence of a B&S song? I'm fighting between selfishness and altruism. But, given the italian situation (no avaliability of any B&S cd or single) do you think disclosing them to the public would be unselfish or subtle selfishness?
